chic haven in a bustling city

Superior staff, wonderful two-story rooms (beds in loft), very clean, very quiet, in a leafy part of town about a 20 minute walk to city center. Overall, a great value. The only drawback is that the hotel is far removed from any other bar, restaurant or breakfast, so you may end up eating and drinking on the premises--the quality of the food and drink is good, but the prices are very high.

Arena Hotel

Great location for access to various parts of Amsterdam by trams. However, one thing I found a bit uncomfortable in the room was the bathroom. The walls of the bathroom were made of tinted glass, yet, depending on what way the lights were, you could still see the person in the bathroom, taking a shower, etc. In addition, the wall of the bathroom did not meet the ceiling and the door did not close so that it can be locked, it just closes over. As a result, the shower/tap needs to be running so the other person cannot hear you in the toilet. VERY UNUSUAL and UNCOMFORTABLE!!

Nice hotel

The Arena Hotel was nice, but a little out of the way from the downtown area. The room was quite small, but enough for us. No TV provided. Breakfast was very good.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

The main attractions are quite a long walk away, but tram is available a short distance. We ate only breakfast at the hotel, and ate in the main area. A very nice large park is close for walking, jogging, etc. Mainly in a neighborhood area and University area.

Four wonderful days in Amsterdam

Very welcoming, friendly staff. Stunning room. Climbing a fairly steep staircase to our bed was a bit daunting, but once we were up there it was extremely comfortable. Had to go two stops on the Metro to begin serious sightseeing but trains were brilliant and frequent. Would definitely return to Amsterdam and the Arena Hotel.

Great place

Beautiful hotel, impeccably courteous and professional staff, outstanding room. Ya, it's not in the heart of town, but is convenient to trams or the front desk can get you a cab in about 1 minute (~11 euro to centraal station) Fantastic bed, great shower, decent views of the canal. All in all a very good hotel, it's only drawbacks being the quality of service in the bar (really slow) and the service charge for internet.

Off the beaten path...

The building itself is a historic orphanage that had been several things including a hostel prior to becoming a hotel with a night club. The initial room assigned to us was a loft with a tiny couch, desk and bathroom downstairs and a bed upstairs via narrow spiral staircase. Not ideal for anyone who needs to use the toilet in the night. At least there was a TV in both areas. We requested another room since we thought this floor plan wasn't mentioned in what we had originally booked. The hotel was gracious enough to allow us to move to a much more spacious room on their top floor (elevator from 2nd to 3rd floor was broken). The second room was incredibly stunning. The room had very interesting lines and angles. The walls were painted white, had archway supports and attic-style walls. The bathroom was HUGE and the walls were black shiny subway tiles. There was a soaker tub and a shower in the bathroom. The angles and arches were in the bathroom as well. Not too many places to hang a towel and the place seemed like the remodel just was completed. We didn't find the mirror light switch to shut it off until we asked the front desk (it was "invisible" as it blended into the black tile). The front desk was helpful when directing us to a place to eat - the hotel does have a restaurant but we wanted to go into the neighborhood to check out local fare.

Good Anniversary weekend

Hotel is situated just outside of everything you want to see and visit. This is a good thing and the tram stops are 100m away which take you everywhere. At check in we got a free upgrade and our room was massive with a wet room and really comfy bed. The tv also as some English channels should you choose to watch. Things to watch out for are: deposit of £50 per night stay upon check-in and expensive mini bar prices. Other than that It's was good and staff are very helpful. Amsterdam isn't cheap anymore and in Dam square and the likes be careful when ordering drinks as they are very very expensive. Food is great and we found a great little steak house which we only paid £11 each for a good steak with all the trimmings, again watch the drinks cheapest bottle of wine £15/£20. Get around by tram at £6 per day and whatever you do don't get a taxi at any cost, £15 for a 5 minute journey and £55 to the airport. The train to the airport is £3 and takes 15 minutes, and also takes you right in to the terminal.

Beautiful hotel

The hotel was beautiful. Our room was spacious, comfortable and stylishly decorated. We only stayed one night at this hotel but wish we would have stayed our entire trip. (we also stayed at some discount hotels, though the price on this one was a bit higher it seemed worth it). One complaint, breakfast for 18 euros seemed very over priced.
