Great Stay
My wife and I had a great stay at this hotel. It's location is central to all of the things a tourist would want to see. There are cafes, shops, coffee shops, a mall, The Van Gogh museum and Rijks museum just a short walk away. A ten minute ride on the trolly will get you to Central Station in the city center. This will be where I stay the next time I visit Amsterdam.

Time-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
The trolly system can save you tons of walking. A 24 hour pass is around 5 euros but be prepared to have close to the exact amount you are buying because it seemed that none of the trolly operators were ever able to make change for a 20 or larger euro bill.

Splendid Anniversary start before Cruise.
We were quite comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was in close proximity to the various sites and canal boat, tram, bus entrances. We would definitely stay again at this hotel if we return to Amsterdam.

American Hotel Amsterdam
Great location. Hotel staff very helpful. Our room, which was one size up from the base level, was decent size by European standards and had a balcony overlooking a canal. The rooms could use some updating. One major annoyance was that at checkout they converted our incidental charges from Euros to Dollars (at a very fqvorable rate to them) without saying anything. Any other time I have had an establishment want to do this in Europe they have said they do this and they gave me a chance to opt out.

seven night stay
Room was not available for early check-in but was worth the wait. Nice seating area with table, comfortable bed, plenty of storage, large bathroom with tub and shower, wall safe, view of fountain and street. A lot of street noise from entertainment district at night with window open, much better with closed window. Canal view rooms would be quieter. Excellent location with major sights within walking distance and terrific tram service (5 lines)steps away. Airport bus stops on other side of the canal. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choices including made-to- order eggs and iced proseco all served in a fantastic art deco room. (Both hotel and restaurant are listed as sights to be seen in the Amsterdam guidebook we bought in the states.) Be sure to ask about the discounted breakfast price at check-in. Staff was professional and friendly. Our room was serviced early and checked by senior staff after servicing. Overall excellent value.

great location
Convenient location right next to several tram stops. (Very easy to use; cash accepted on board and change made.). Don't bother with airport shuttle or cabs; just take the train and then tram--cheap and fast. Inexpensive RT canal tours available right below the hotel. Lovely ride that takes about 2 hours. Can hop off at museum stops too, or stay on for asnlong as you want.

Terrible
"Bad service, ugly room, expensive/bad internet, dirty" A long wait at reception (room was booked ahead of course - 'we're looking for an extra noce room for you, when I asked', otherwise the lady just tapped at her screen for minutes without any comment) yielded an ugly, stuffy room with a small, stuck window. It was dirty, there was a plastic sheet over the mattress, the minibar (no expense spared there, it's electronically monitored!) excruciatingly expensive... the location is great and that's all there's to be said about this place. Never again.

In the heart of Amsterdam
This is my first of many trips to Amsterdam and I'm glad I selected Eden Amsterdam American Hotel. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the city. It is within walking distance to museums, shopping, entertainment and a bevy of restaurants and transportation (trams, buses, bikes, canal boats, etc). When staying at Eden hotels make sure you tell your driver specifically which Eden hotel, as there are many throughout the city.

Take the shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel, it's 15.50 Euro one-way. Tickets are available inside Shiphol airport at the ticket booth behind Starbucks or can be purchased on board, best to buy in advance, otherwise you're waiting until everyone else gets on board the 8 passenger vehicle. Trams and taxis are also available from the low to high end 4 to 50 Euro one-way for about a 20 minute ride.

Location Is Key
Location, location, location. Have to be honest that the check-in experience wasn't the best, but the hotel's location was perfect. Everything within walking distance, a great location to explore the city (especially for families). These days (April 2011), prices are essentially Tokyo equivelant. No worries on that account, but $500 only gets you 300 Euros, so that's a significant consideration.

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Everything in Amsterdam is within walking distance (keep your head on a swivel for bikes, scooters, cars and trams). Not the world's best cuisine spot, but the beauty, architecture and history more than make up for that. If you're *involved*, hard to walk away not engaged; if married, will add years to your relationship!
