Not good customer service
Travel was delayed by unforeseen circumstances. Hotel demanded prepayment for reservations and then unwilling to change the dates when delayed by travel. Paid for a room and never got to use it or check in and hotel would not cooperate with changing dates.

Very nice hotel in a good location
Seems like Rabat is mainly a business destination. Hotels are kind of scattered around the city and Americans are not going to find any familiar brands. This hotel is part of the Accord chain and is very comfortable for an American business traveler. Breakfast is excellent. Dinner was also very good but the menu is fairly short - the Moroccan dishes were as good as I had in 2 weeks in the country. Small full service bar, good wine list with quite nice Moroccan wine selection. The Mercure is situated in a very nice neighborhood - kind of the medical district with lots of doctor's offices and laboratories. Nightlife (such as it is in Rabat)and the Medina are a short walk (just head toward the ocean and you can't miss it). Only downside was the lack of in-room internet. This was the case in every hotel I stayed in, in Nov 2009 regardless of the location or brand. Not sure if it was an economic thing or security thing. Internet worked fine in the lobby so either get one of the "high boost" wifi gadgets or plan on working in the lobby.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
You haven't been to Morocco if you haven't been to the market. Plan on spending an hour at least. Can be very crowded so take the usual precautions against pick-pockets.

This place is a good bargain for the money. It's cheaper than some of the hotels because it is not in the absolute center, but it is much nicer than some of the older more traditional hotels. All the internet you want in the lobby (no access in rooms). Kangarou restaurant connected to hotel; great food. Wait staff will serve you while you lounge in the comfortable chairs in the hotel lobby, catching up on the internet. The free breakfast is second to none. Hot and cold dishes, fresh fruits, fresh bread....wonderful.It was clear the place had recently been renovated and my accommodation was nearly perfect.

Shopping tip:
Short drive from hotel
Ask for guidance before going to the local Moroccan open-air markets. Or don't dress like a wealthy foreigner. They raise prices based on who is buying.

The AC did not work and the place
The AC did not work and the place smelled moldy and smoky. The staff was just OK and not very friendly. The dining staff in particular seemed very unhappy. this was quite unlike any other service (very warm and friendly) at other establishments in Morocco during our two week vacation in that country.
