Quiet Getaway

No information given about restaurant discounts upon arrival. Not as well kept as two years ago. Restaurant needs a better menu. Very restful and relaxing atmosphere. It wasn't worth the $97 per night. Our neighbors paid $64 per night.

Unbeatable location for the price

This hotel is directly on the beach, so the location can't be beat. The restaurant and bar are also on the beach and have a great view. Plus, their Fish Tacos al Pastor are amazing. Not to mention the 2 for 1 drinks at Happy Hour. Very friendly staff and like I said, location, location, location!

Just what we expected

The hotel and service was just as reviewed. I would suggest the food at the resorts on the beach is not the best and pricey. When we arrived the hotel had no record of our reservation. We did not realize Cheap Tickets had booked the reservation through Orbitz. It took almost an hour in hot humid weather to resolve the reservation. I suggest Cheap Tickets disclose to the consumer the ins and outs of the reservations.

Truly Paradise

We spent 14 days relaxing and enjoying the beauty of La Ropa beach. The Villa Mexicana was perfect. Good food in resturant at Hotel. Good food in several resturants all within easy walking distance from hotel. And all on the beach. Short taxi ride to town to enjoy an old fashioned Mexican fishing village.

Great hotel ON the beach

This wonderful Mexican hotel is one of the few in Zihuatenejo that is not on a cliff, but is actually on the beach. Terrific, low key restaurants on the beach neighbor it, as well as a good on-site restaurant. Like most truly Mexican restaurants, the beds are very firm, bordering on hard. Very clean. Oceanview rooms are on first-come first served. We put our names on a list and changed to ocean view after three days. These rooms don't cost extra. Some of thr rooms are by a kiddie pool which may or maynot appeal to you, depending on your family. This was our second time at Villa Mexicana and I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Zihuatenejo.

One of the most romantic restaurants I have ever been to anywhere in the world is La Cala, which is build into a cliff just above the water. To get there you need to take a dirt road with a taxi, but once you get there it is charming and the food is outstanding.

Great place, but hard bed

The hotel was not fancy but I liked it alot. It is the closest hotel to the beach. We loved being able to walk to the beach in just seconds. Most other hotels seemed like a hike down long stairs or a road to get to the beach. The pool was nice and there were plenty of chairs and shades to lay out. The beach is beautiful, you'll love it. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was pretty good Mexican food but nothing special. The rooms were nice and clean. TV only had 4 channels but one was in English. The bed was hard as a rock. I really found it uncomfortable. I recommend having a few drinks before bed or you may never get to sleep. Another issue was the air conditioner. It worked TOO good. You had a choice between hot air and extremely cold air. It didn't regulate itself to turn off at some point so after a couple hours I would wake up to arctic tempatures. The place was good value for the money though. If you don't have a big budget I think this is the best for the money. We had a great time!

Bare Bones but great for relaxing

Hotel Villa Mexicana in Zihautenajo is a very Mexican Hotel. No alarm clock or coffe makers in the rooms. Nothing fancy. The beds are very hard as they are pedastal beds made of cement with a mattress on top. The pillows are made of foam rubber balls I swear. Some days you get wash clothes and some days you don't. We had to call the desk 4 times because the lock on our door didn't work. The T.V. had two English speaking channels, CNN and The Hallmark channel. If there was good weather you get them to work. The beach was great with the exception of the snakes at sundown. They slither out into the water. You can walk to about 5 different restaurants on the beach. That's it for anything without taking a cab. The hotel restaurant does not have much of a menu, but you can ask for burgers etc. Very slow though, you might get your drink in a half hour and then your food in another hour, but that was because we were the only ones there. It could take longer if they get a rush. I think there were at the most 5 other couple there when we were there 9/8/07- 9/15/07. The front desk is helpful and can get you a cab in about 30 seconds.
