Fantastic family getaway

Fantastic location, good facilities, clean, comfortable room and lovely restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hotel was fairly busy but we never felt overcrowded or had to fight to get a sunbed or place by the pool or beach. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We would definitely come back again. We mainly enjoyed La Ropa Beach and some of the watersports there. We also took a Sunset Cruise around the bay to Ixtapa which was great fun on Christmas eve. It would have been nice to have had a little bit of entertainment in the evenings as apart from dining, they were quiet.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

We loved the food in the restaurant at Villa Mexicana but also tried most of the other beach restaurants. These were our favourites: El Vira for breakfast. Restaurant Rossi for lunch/dinner - great Red Snapper, seafood and lobster. We also liked El Mare which is a Greek/Italian restaurant with a great view of the bay..

unbeatable location for the price

Location is beautiful. Price is great, staff is courteous and helpful. The beds are not so comfortable, but okay for a couple of days. The best thing about this place is you can walk right out of your room steps to the beach, relax in a lounge chair all day, drinks served to you at a reasonable price. You can walk along a nice beach about 1/2 mile for fun. There are all kinds of water sports available, if that's your thing. About $5 cab to town if you want to check out some shops wiht local/touristy stuff and some other nice local restaurants. You just can't beat the price for this place, it is worth it.

Nightlife tip: Not Applicable

If you are looking for nightlife, then this is not the place for you. They have a nice happy hour, but other than that is a quiet place. Same goes for most of the hotels on this beach.

A great stay!

The staff, especially [...], was very friendly and helpful during our stay. The lay out of the property is great for those with difficulty walking. My mother and I had a wonderful time sailing, parasailing, walking the beach, getting massages and doing yoga in the beautiful studio next door at [...]'s place. There are some well mannered, sweet dogs that are on the property (The females dogs are spayed and all are immunized). The pups were great to have around as I sure miss mine when I have to leave them at home. The only bad thing I can say is that the beer is twice the cost there compared to all the other surrounding facilities.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Do your trinket shopping in the market in Zihua as it is cheaper there.

great place

Villa Mexicana is a great place for couples or families that like a more quiet getaway on the beach. I went during their low season (end of May) and the beach was nearly deserted of tourists. The hotel has everything you need at a low price and great location.

Money-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

You can walk to a decent snorkeling area on Las Gatas beach. Follow La Ropa beach to the end and continue over the rocks and dirt roads. Takes about 45 minutes and a relatively easy walk for a semi-active person. Avoid the "land sharks" on La Ropa beach trying to make you pay to take you there to snorkel, you can walk and rent snorkel gear for 50 pesos. Very fun day!

Peace and quiet in Mexico

We went on an Eco-tour that was very nice. The food in the hotel restaurant is good and very reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Good, reasonable option on the beach.

Overall, I had a very good experience at the hotel. Our room was on the beach side, and opened directly onto the pool area (with the beach just beyond.) The rooms themselves are simple, clean and nice - the floors are all Mexican tile and the walls feature built in shelving. There aren't a lot of amenities in the rooms, but if you're just looking for a place to rest your head after a day at the beach (just out the door) where you can fall asleep to the sound of surf, this is the place.

Ideal location .......lovely spot

We stayed at Villa Mexicana 4 years ago and the addition of the pool did enhance our stay with my partner's 80 year old mother. She felt safe and loved the fact that the beach and ocean were a stone's throw away. The staff were all friendly and courteous and our rooms were very clean. Highly recommended Patty Vancouver B.C.

Great hotel

This hotel is on the best beach in Zihua and is perfect for those who do not like big fancy resorts. The bar/restaurant is adequate and has good service but there is better food at neighboring places. It is right on the beach, a short cab or bus ride into town, lots of loungechairs facing the ocean. Very clean. Staff English is sparce but adequate.
