good choice

The hotel is a little old and the wireless is very iffy. The location, the pool, the view, and the staff are all fantastic. There were many families and many locals which is what we wanted.

Fabulous location and beach. Small rooms

Would recommend Tue, Dec 30, 2014
Super location, on a very nice beach, easy to get to the main square downtown and the boardwalk (Malecon). Staff was personable and we had a nice breakfast buffet. Room and bathroom was very small. Typical for an older hotel built in the 1950's.

Nice Week at the Beach

Would recommend Fri, Jul 25, 2014
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Pescador for 5 days while we enjoyed a beach getaway. Our room was great, with a view out over the pool and the ocean beyond. The accommodations are not elegant but clean and comfortable, and a great value for the view and location. We really enjoyed being able to walk just 5 minutes to the Malecón, where are the bars and nightlife is. The staff was friendly and helpful, and I would most definitely stay there again! (I saw in some of the comments that there were issues with the remote and air conditioning--I had no such problems. And, the wifi worked just fine.)

Dining

There is a great Indian food place on a small road, half a block up from the Malecón! Just ask around and the locals will point you there no problem!

A Delightful Place

Would recommend Thu, Mar 13, 2014
wife and I had an ocean-view room at a very reasonable price. We were just over the beach, and the view was spectacular. We were in the center of a horseshoe-shaped bay, with mountains on each side, the surf rumbling beneath us, and the blue water of the bay before us. Furthermore, the sun set directly in front of us, and the sunsets were brilliant. The staff was pleasant and obliging. They were very nice people to be around, and after three-weeks there I will miss them. The hotel is not luxurious, but it is comfortable. It is in the center of the old part of the city, some of which is slightly run down, sidewalks are irregular, and the streets are cobbled, but I think it is the most interesting part of the city to be in. To sum up, I would go back to El Pescador in a minute if I could. I miss it.

Pescador Vacation

Would recommend Fri, May 17, 2013
We stayed 9 nights, the staff was very helpful throughout. It it right on the oean with a nice beach for swimming. The pool area is nice but it is hard to find shade. The rooms were basic but clean. Hotel is 3 blocks from the Malecon and close to all the Old Puerto Vallarta area.

Dining

Recommend Cheeky Monkey and Sea Monkey restraunts, both on the Malecon, great prices and food.

There, but not All there.

Would recommend Sun, Jan 27, 2013
The general location of the hotel is excellent, if you want to be near the tourist action of shops, beach, and restaurants. It's a short walk to the lengthy "pedstrain and bicycle only" street that is bordered by stores on one side and the beach on the other. Yet, it's on a side street itself, reasonably quiet, and the rear of the hotel is on its own section of beach. While they advertise wi-fi, that's for the public areas of the hotel- signal strength for me and other hotel guests, was not strong enough in the rooms to be of general use. There was an air conditioner mounted near the ceiling of my room, but when I asked for the remote to regulate it, I was told they didn't have enough for each room, and told to contact the desk, any time I wanted to raise or lower the temperature. But at 3 or 4 a.m., lying in bed, I was not likely to do that. The pool is minimal for someone looking to actually swim, and the ocean, although lovely, can be a bit rough to venture out in, particularly since there was no life guard there.. The hotel restauant was suprisingly good and cheap compared to most restaurants that I've had, but the price included bufet breakfast was extremely, extremely limited- scrambled eggs, bread, juice and coffee, and beans stuff virtually every morning got old fast. I was on the second of three floors, on the three floor hotel, and during my two week stay, at least three times, the elevator was out of order. Staff was plentiful and friendly, so for the price charged, it wasn't a bad experience, generally,.

Dining

There's a great variety of places to eat, from McDonald's, to Italian, sea food, local street venders etc. Some great, and some not so great in every category. ASK. Don't hesitate to ge recommendations from the hotel staff and others that know.
