My husband and I stayed at SSS for one week and it was wonderful. The staff was very nice and helpful. The resort was very ... modern, which we both love. The drinks were amazing and plentiful. The food was good. This was a great place to go and relax. The only downfall at this resort is the beach which is a bit rocky, however that did not bother us as they have several pools to swim in. We would definately go back to SSS.

We took a daytrip to Tulum and Tankah which was amazing...you see some Mayan Ruins, drive jeeps and zip-line. We originally just wanted to relax but figured that we would go explore somewhere else for a day and it was so worth it. I would suggest looking into the nearby tours that are offered at the hotel and by the avis desk. Well worth it...

We did a lot of laying by the pool enjoying cocktails. Food was good, drinks were good, music was good, rooms were nice and ... clean. I really enjoyed the resort. One complaint I have is that the coupons for $200 that we received for staying 3 nights or longer were not useful. There were A LOT of restrictions on them so we didn't end up using them. I wish we had a choice what to use them on.

The overall experiece was nice, the only downfall to the hotel was the maid service that cleaned the rooms. We were there for ... 7 nights and had to call 3 of the days to get new towel and get the room cleaned. When they did clean the room it was good. Giving them the benefit of the matter, the hotels in mexico were only booked at 53% so there might have been lay-offs and maybe were under staffed. The rest of the hotel was great though.

This resort is absolutely gorgeous. I believe it's a 4 star resort. The concierge desk needs some serious customer service ... training, but other than that it was a great trip. Check in is extremly simple and the staff is friendly. The pictures do it justice and the rooms are very spacious. The bed is confortable and the room nicely decorated. There is also a small pillow menu. The rooms come with dvd players and they have dvdsavailable at the desk. The food was good. The filet mignon was great at Bordeux and portifino. The buffet has some good option and offers a variety, breakfast is the best. There is NO lobster uless you pay $140p/p for a dinner. The habachi is great, never tried sushi. I tried every restaurant and if you don't like it order something different, the staff in there really aim to please. You can tip as you see fit for those who go the extra mile. Bar service is great at the main bar ( [...], [...]) just a few names of wonderful staff members. The entertainment staff is greatbecause there is NOTHING to do at the hotel. [...], [...] and [...] are wonderful. Play the games its how you winn stuff. The spa is wonderful. We tried the couples hot stone message and it was just lovely. They have a very nice hydrotherapy circuit. ummmm The concierge desk needs some serious training in customer service they're just plain rude and they won't help with anything. All in all great honeymoon resort and couples vacation, it beautiful but extremely expensive but well worth the money. I believe the food has room to improve and the ammenities as far as activities too but overall its was a great trip. ****

4.8/5.0 - Great Stay!
Still Newlyweds Nov 30, 2009
Our stay here was fantastic. They were currently low on staff when we visited, but at the price we booked the trip, I would ... expect nothing less. It did not keep us from getting drinks or food at any point during our visit, just had to be slightly more patient or avoid the main bars (plenty of smaller ones with no lines). This was not a problem at all. I'm sure that will get better as tourism ramps back up as well. The staff was wonderfully gracious, helpful, and nice. The food was fantastic, the facilities are breathtaking. Seriously was just a wonderful resort for relaxation and time with wife/significant other. No kids allowed, so it is very peaceful. The only negative about this place was not an issue for my wife and I. The beach... The beach space was very limited and there just plain wasn't much of it. However, a short walk down away from the resort, you could have all the empty beach you wanted. There just isn't much in front of the hotel. Which with a pool as nice and as large as it is, who cares!?
Traveler type: Couples
Make sure to visit each of the resteraunts...Also, a small hint, the hibachi grill isn't all as great as you might think. Do the sit down dinner at the Japanese place, you'll have more options and I felt better food.

Relaxation at its best!
Vordal Nov 30, 2009
The resort was a very relaxing place to spend a few days. With seven dining choices, there was not a need to venture out of ... the resort. Food was above average, service was a bit slow, but fit the pace of life at the Hotel. Entertainment, was so-so, but there was nightly music, and a few shows over the five nights we spent there. The staff was very friendly, and constantly patrolled the pool and beach to see if we needed anything to drink. This is the kind of place to go, if all you want, is some rest and relaxation.

Honeymooners that GOT AWAY! Nov 15, 2009
It was very clean. The staff was great. The overall atmosphere was great. The only thing we could complain about was the ... music selection it was like techno music or something like that and they played it until 1 am every night. It wasn't very loud but I would have liked to open the balcony doors and listen to the ocean but all you could hear was the music in the background. I would highly recomend this resort to someone. We will be back for our 1 year anniversary!

Mexico getaway for adults
Occasional Traveler Nov 13, 2009
Hotel is about 14 miles from the airport (about 20 min). It's literally surrounded by a swampy jungle. The hotel is lovely, ... the rooms are modern and luxurious. The restaurants (there are many of them) are all wonderful! The staff (especially the waitors/hostesses) is so friendly and really care about your experience. There are activities throughout the day and night, though the night entertainment is slightly lame. There are several pools which is great if you want a quieter poolside experience for reading, etc. Rooms are nice but could be cleaner, mainly because of the bugs. With the nearby jungle and the open air hallways, there are a lot of bugs around and they often got into the room.

Nice hotel and friendly staff. The beach was not very nice, and the whole area, especially the beach was buggy. This hotel ... seemed to be a long travel to anywhere you wanted to go. Shopping, excursion, etc. The excursions seemed expensive. Taxi rates should be made available to compare taxi with tour travel. This hotel needs more night life for the 30-50 age group. Dancing, music, etc. instead of going to Cancun or Playa de Carmen. Overall, a very nice place and great staff.

Christine Nov 4, 2009
Secret's Silversands stood up to it's rating. It was the nicest resort I have ever stayed. The resort was very clean, and the ... grounds and the hotel rooms were beautiful. Lots of restaurant choices to choose from each evening. The food was top notch and the wait staff never stopped. We were constantly told " It is my pleasure". The activities staff were all very friendly. They never pushed to have you do something if you didn't want to. The only drawback was that there is not much shade near the pool areas. And the beach was beautiful to look at, but there was too much seaweed and rocks to go in the water. That did not matter much to us, we just hung out by the pool every day.
Traveler type: Couples
Go to the Jungle Spa. We went with another couple we met at the resort so we split the cab fare. The best massage you will ever get at a fraction of the cost the resort charges for a massage. It is a non-profit, and it is set up to help the local women. I found the website while looking up things to do in that area. While we were waiting for our appt., every person coming out of the Jungle Spa raved that it was the best massage they have ever had.

Loved our stay at SSS ,our first room had a bad odor inside and out , an odor of sewerage .The sewer plant turned to be ... located right outside our room . No problem getting a new room . While sprinkler system went off on the property in the mornings you could smell the same odor . Pools where great but pool service lacked due to understaffing both around the pool and at the swim-up bar . Only one bartender at swim-up bar . Only two choices of beer one dark and one lager and very little top shelf liquor . Good things- entertainment staff and entertainment was excellent . Pools were great . Restaraunts were great service and food above average. Rooms were always cleaned and are huge .

Go to playa Mamitas in playa del Carmen; it's an excellent beach to relax. Also, rent a car for the whole week (about $200); it's woth it because you don't depend on anybody and driving is very safe from Cancun to Tulum, or Chichen Itza.
