Part of the AMResorts company, "unlimited luxury" is the aim at Secrets Silversands Hotel, an adults-only sanctuary lost in the jade and turquoise peace of the Rivera Maya. Lie back at the Secrets Spa and let the wall-length floral murals sweep you away to the jungle, or dine on/in the island pool at Oceana, while the lights of the swim-up courtyard suites twinkle on the water. Gourmet food is taken as seriously as the themed decor here, with Parisian style monochrome photos to accompany the fillet steak at Bordeaux restaurant, and the cherry-red decor complementing the Pan-Asian fare at Himitsu. Once you've recovered from all that food, there's plenty of tennis, golf and reef snorkeling action to be had, and you can finish the evening at the open-air theater with its program of local shows.

Neighborhood
Secrets Silversands is in a remote part of the Caribbean coast of Mexico, around 15 miles south of Cancun and just north of the distinctly sleepier resort of Puerto Morelos. White sand beaches are available as far as the eye can see, and the kaleidoscopic underwater reefs appeal to both beginner and veteran divers. If you seek out more civilization, Puerto Morelos is a six-minute drive away, and hosts a Mayan Handicraft Center, some great Mexican eateries and one peculiar, leaning lighthouse.
Hints and tips
Anyone who enjoys snorkeling should check out the beach in front of the kayaks - the water is clear ten feet down.
When booking a room, buildings five and six are the quietest.

Not for the Average Joe

This hotel was fancy looking but looks can definetly be deceiving. Overall it was just a bad resort that was understaffed alot. Each bar had One blender to service 40 people at a time...Uhh Hello maybe you should get 2 more blenders!!! Pool service for drinks which by the way were DISGUSTING, took 40 minutes to get one drink and thats if it came to you as how you ordered it!!! Beach uhh nope cant use it caue of the Jagged rocks by the shore line that rip your feet up and the mountains of Sea Weed to hurdle over!! All and All I would never go back to this Resort or recommend not even my worst enemy!!!

Will never go again!

The staff was very unhelpful. In fact, several of them were downright rude. We visited this resort 2 years ago and really loved it, but after this experience, we will never go to this resort again.

Friends Wedding

Arrival: They overbooked the hotel and tried to move my wife and I to another hotel. Duration: Poor A/C throughout the resort. Our room never once was cool. Clothes were damp. Room smelled of mold. Many people got food poison during our stay including my wife which she missed the wedding festivities.

Horror stories were true!!!

BEWARE of this place. We are veteran travelers and have spent time at AI Resorts all over Mexico and the Caribbean. We are very glad we only booked 4 nights at this joke hotel. First off we tried to address issues with [...] the GM, but he was like a ghost and unable to nail him down. Bad customer attitudes stem from the top, so he's problem number 1. Where to start - how about the place is tiny and ordinary, there is nothing 4 or 5 star about this place and out in the wasteland. The food was average at best. The breakfast buffet was boring ordinary and tasteless. The Japanese Restaurant was terrible. Seafood was served warm and appeared to be old and gray. We walked out after sampling some dishes which were all tasteless and drab, in California this place would be out of business in 1 day. Italian Restaurant was average, no inspiration in the menu and all boring. The French restaurant was closed 2 of the 4 nights we were there, supposedly the best restaurant there, we doubt but never got a chance to sample. Even the Mexican restaurant was boring, with food that was more peasant style than upscale preparations which should be at a HIGH class resort. The only place that had very good food was the Grill Restaurant, surrounded by the main pool. They alternated steaks, chops and meats on night and Seafood the next night. At least that manager got it right. There was half dozen tiny pools scattered around the peripheral parts of the resort all no better than average with no food service or beverage service. The main pool was small and so hot because they didn't provide adequate shade even under the funky pergola awnings. The only spot where you could catch some shade was the far side of the pool where there was a cutoff in one of the buildings so you could SEE the ocean. However the beach was disgusting with thin strips of seaweed everywhere or rocky area you couldn't walk on unless you had shoes on. All bars were average and only served 2nd rate booze, there was very little top shelf alcohol beverages and you had to ask specifically everytime for the higher class stuff. The Pool bar was filthy and probably contributed to me getting sick. They did not wash the glasses they were serving drinks in!!! They put them in a bin with water and maybe some cleaner, but that left residue on all plastic glasses we saw them serving drinks. The 1 and only hot tub was lukewarm and placed close to the beach, far side of the pool? The Spa... was a rip off, very expensive and if you used the bogus coupons they gave you at check-in, they excluded many services. Again trying to nickle and dime you to death. Then at checkout the final experience was that they were charging me for laundry/dry cleaning, EXCEPT we didn't use the service. When I explained that to them they said, oh yes you did it was on the bill!?!?!? How utterly ridiculous. My fiance ended up arguing this point for 10 minutes with the woman at checkout who was indignant that he challenged her truth. Finally after much arguing and loud voices the day manager came over and repeats what she said and caused another 10 minute exchange of why were we being extorted. What a racket these people have they charge you stuff and as you check out rushing to the airport, I believe I read this on a review about this place before. Regardless, when my fiance encouraged them to call the police, the day manager relented. These people are shysters and dishonest dont use their "resort". Find a better place elsewhere to spend your hard earned dollars.

Average at Best

Where to begin, if you like the beach STAY AWAY from this hotel and avoid it at all cost!! The pictures on the website are a sham so dont beleive it at all! The pools were very dirty and not very well kept, no dinner buffet option is a downer for any all inclusive, all of the restaurants have pre fixed menus and all MEN MUST wear pants and a colored shirt or they wont let you in, this is not advertised on the resorts site [...] a lot of people at the resort complained about this, when you are on vacation sun burned, and it's 100+ degrees outside who wants to wear pants and a shirt?? The food overall was average, the nightly shows were good and the entertainment staff was friendly with daily games and activities...rooms were dirty and we had to constantly call housekeeping for towels and wash cloths, no nightly turndowns for a beach resort was dissapointing even though all of the hotels literature stated they did provide turndown service...I would not refer anyone to stay at this resort you can do much better for your money elsewhere in this part of Mexico....very dissapointed

Luxury with Limitations

I really wanted to like this hotel. They have invested large sums of money on stylish design & decor, but the experience was unfortunately a cup-half-empty one because of what one can only surmise as management that lacks the drive to implement plans to achieve the strategic goal of customer satisfaction and insufficient staff training in the restaurants to achieve service standards. Sometimes the wrong order would be served and sometimes no cutlery was provided to eat the food with when it did arrive. There was an unexpectedly higher proportion of rather basic restaurant service errors than one would expect from an 'unlimited luxury' resort experience. Example: In the Bordeaux restaurant, they list two items on the Menu which are supposed to be prepared tableside. This sounded like a nice idea, except that the waiter told me that they have not provided the staff with the service carts or the equipment to prepare those dishes; why don't they just change the descriptions and reprint the menus rather than risk disappointing the customers? That puzzled me. There are more intriguing options further south along the coast.

Not a 4 Star :(

To say we were disappointed would be kind. Youre better off going for a true 4 or 5 star. We traveled with another couple who were equally as disappointed. Immediately upon check-in the hotel tries to get you to upgrade. Most hotels will do this complimentary if rooms are available. But that was not the case here. New Years eve entertainment was painful! 1) the gym floor and treadmill were so slippery it was extremely dangerous. Could not run on any if the 3 treadmills because it was like running on ice! We made the hotel aware of it immediately, called the manager and for 7 days they continued to "look into it". We were not the only ones to complain and still nothing was ever done. They also frequently ran out of towels in the gym which is unacceptable considering the hotel wasn't at capacity. 2) the spa was a complete let down. Not only was the steam room not working most of the therapeutic pools weren't either 3) the hotel does a very bad job of explaining how your resort credits can be used. You can only use a portion of each credit (ie $10 toward wine, $50 toward spa) you can't use it all towards one item
