Overview

One of several Secrets hotels dotting the coastline of the Mayan Riviera in Mexico, Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun is situated right on the seafront. Enjoy the complimentary in-suite internet access and a swim-up bar, as well as the cool, stone-tiled interiors and thatched awnings over the pool. Whether you re spending your time swimming with dolphins and windsurfing around coral reefs, or attending a business meeting on the terrace while the sounds of the Caribbean sea sigh in the background, take a moment to switch off with a Swedish massage or seaweed wrap at the Secrets Spa. Dinner is served courtesy of the Italian experts at Portofino and the Japanese-style gourmet chefs at Himitsu, amongst many others.

Hints and tips

When it's time for a full meal, most of the restaurants here don't require reservations, but you'll definitely want to book ahead for seats at Japanese venue Himitsu. You might prefer to get your own airport transfers from Cancun International Airport (CUN), as shared journeys can be lengthy, dropping off passengers at various different resorts.

Nearby attractions

Neighborhood

Between lively resort Playa del Carmen, and the more laidback vibe of Puerto Morelos on Mexico s east coast, you can get up to myriad activities on land and water around the neighborhood. Take to the sea via kayak, let someone else do the work while you enjoy a sailing and scuba diving excursion within sight of the hotel, or stick to the shore with yoga, archery and cocktail classes. Make the ten minute drive down the coast to Playa del Carmen for souvenir shopping and an up-tempo beachfront bar scene.

Friend's destination wedding

Would not recommend Tue, Nov 24, 2015
I have stayed in Cancun area and was not prepared for the tropical humid weather that the Playa del Carmen area offered. Upon arrival, which was earlier than check in, we had to wait for our room but luckily our tour liaison was there to help get us set up with excursions to Chicen Itza and a three cenote tour with Maya-land Adventures (both were amazing). After we declined the concierge desk's offer of the $200 free money that they give you to use at the resort as we had already stayed at the hotel chain in Puerto Vallarta and wanted to skip the sales pitch. We did receive a call the next morning at 9 am from the front desk stating that we needed to come claim our free money and would not let us decline the offer. After arriving to our room and unpacked, we found that the safe was not working and called down. They sent someone very quickly and it was fixed within the hour. After which we relaxed and grabbed dinner from the French restaurant. It was very good and the service was great. It did rain while we there which could explain why there were SO many mosquitoes but I got eaten alive. Our room did come with replant but those bugs weren't even phased. Our ocean view room faced the gardens and when we asked the front desk, they offered to upgrade our room for more $$. I was visiting this resort for a friends wedding to find that other guests who had booked partial ocean views had a greater view than we did. Also, there was a leak near the light fixture outside which constantly had our bench soaked and it could not be sat on the entire trip. It was very disappointing as the bench was the only place that offered the ocean view. The staff at all of the restaurant and bar locations were great. Don't expect anything to open prior to 7 am so order room service for breakfast if you have an early trip as there is no to-go options. Lunch is pretty meh at the pool but good if you go to seaside. Dinner at all the restaurants were very good. If bugs eat you alive, stick to the places indoors - I believe all of the outside seating areas have bug spray but they still get you. Weddings on the beach were good, it is kind of secluded (no one within 30 feet of the wedding cabana). The party does have to walk past everyone to get to the reception gazebo and the party is hosted right on the patio (unless it rains then it is in the World Cafe - we saw two receptions prior to my friends wedding). It was a very beautiful resort and the staff was wonderful. It was not my ideal vacation spot and I would not recommend the resort.

Great time!

Would recommend Fri, Nov 20, 2015
The only reason we gave a 4 was because the food menu at some of the restaurants were too eclectic. We didn't like the Italian restaurant, nor did we find anything we liked at the French restaurant. We are simple people, so that could be why. But service was amazing, grounds were super clean and impressive, staff was pretty prompt at the pool and it was a busy week. They went above and beyond to make us welcome and comfortable. They just need to keep to offer a couple more simple dishes on the menu for people like us :)

After reading all of the reviews, I was assured that we would have a great honeymoon. After arriving at the resort, they actually exceeded my already high expectations. The staff, the service, food and amenities were all incredible. We will definitely be going back for our anniversary.

Sea Weed Problem

Would recommend Sat, Aug 8, 2015
The beach was covered with sea weed each day. I will say that the resort and the staff worked very hard trying to clean this up but it looked like a never ending story. Will try again in a different month. Been there before and never experienced this
