Amazing Refuge!
The Royal Hideaway exceeded every one of our expectations. From the quite, relaxing general atmosphere to the beautiful accommodations to the personalized service by the staff, we loved our week there. Really the only downer was the sand bags along the beach. We went in July for our honeymoon and could always get a chair on the beach when we wanted one. One can walk for miles down the beach in one direction, and there is complementary usage of a small catamaran, windsurfer, and boogie boards if you know how to use those. We left the hotel for one day to go see some ruins, but in reality we could have spent another week entirely one the hotel grounds without it getting old. All in all, highly, highly recommended - we will be coming back sometime in the future.

We did little shopping, but spent one afternoon walking around Playa del Carmen, visiting the street vendors and various shops - got a great deal on cigars, among other things.

Amazing Honeymoon
The Royal Hideaway is the perfect place for a honeymoon. From the second you arrive they give your champagne, and could not be more friendly. The grounds are immaculate, and the food is great but be sure to bring long pants and closed toed shoes, because at night you must dress up. The pools are great, and each hotel section has it's own pool and hot tub. All an all it was an amazing place and highly recommend it.

Short walk from hotel
5th Ave. in the downtown Playa Del Carmen area is about 15 minute walk, it is mostly bars, resturants, and stores selling the same things. I would opt for the local plaza which is practically right across the street, everything is safe, and very clean.

Impeccable Staff and Service
The Royal Hideaway was exactly what we were looking for in an all inclusive resort and MORE! The courtsey and genuine consideration of everyone on staff was remarkable. Their attention to detail in an unintrusive manner, always with a smile and a greeting, contributed to the pleasant, relaxing vacation we wanted. The spa treatments were very good, their concierge service was impeccable and the outside activities offered were varied and offered with knowledge and background.

Decadent, relaxing vacation
We loved the Royal Hideaway from check-in to check-out. It's hard to believe it's an all-inclusive resort, because it really doesn't feel like one. No arm bands, no buffets ( except for breakfast, but there's an al la carte option too ) The restaurants rival anything here in America. There are sandbags in the water to keep the beach from washing out, but it did not stop us from swimming and enjoying the ocean. Rooms were beautiful, beds were comfortable, no problems sleeping at all. The grounds and atmosphere of this place is amazing--lovingly manicured walkways take you to flowing rivers and private little relaxation pools. Royal Hideaway earns its name. We really felt like royalty.

Romantic and relaxing
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Royal Hideaway. It is very beautiful and relaxing. Not a place for kids. The resort is very elegant and formal. Be sure to bring long pants, collar shirts and closed toe shoes for men to wear at dinner. We had to search out some shoes in town. Ladies can wear dresses and sandals to dinner. We really loved the cabanas that the staff would put on your chairs at the beach when you were finished with the sun for the day. The Food was awesome. We loved the Asian and Italian places. Tea time is so romantic and a great way to end your afternoon before dinner. One of the great attributes about the property is that it is just the right size. Not too big like some of the other resorts we have been to in the past. There are great little amenities that add a special touch. Like and umbrella in your room for those random showers and wireless Internet access in your room. We definitely will go back.

Long walk from hotel
Great shopping in Playa. It is a long walk or a short cab ride. If it is hot, take the cab. Also check with the hotel for great excurtions. We did the Jungle ATV one and had a blast, but don't forget to bring bug spray!

Excellent for adults only
As soon as you walk into the hotel you know it is first class. There is no desk where you check in. You are greeted by the person checking you in, asking if you'd like a glass of champange. She asks you to take a seat on the sofa in the beautiful lobby while she takes your papers and begins your check-in process. Then someone comes and offers you a cool wet face cloth. After getting the keys to your room, you go to your individual 2 level complex of about 12 rooms with your personal conscierge. He is the person you to to with all your needs, questions etc. THIS IS PROBABLY THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT WE HAD. WE WERE ONLY ABLE TO GET 9PM RESERVATIONS FOR EVERY NIGHT WE WERE THERE. THERE REALLY IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO SET UP THEIR RESERVATION SCHEDULE SO THAT PEOPLE COULD EAT AT DIFFERENT TIMES. After two days we got a different conscierge who tried very hard and got us an earlier reservation on our last night there. The service was very good and we tipped at all meals, less at the buffet breakfast and most at dinner. Our room was nice and I especially liked that when they came in for turn down service they cleaned the bathroom and replenished the towels. Unfortunately, because of the hurricane 3 years ago, they lost most of their beach and they have huge sand bags sitting in the ocean pretty much preventing you from going in to swim unless you climb over them. I usually like to just go in to get wet, so it wasn't a huge problem for me, but for others it might be. The best part was that their were no children running around and we were able to just sit and relax and really get away from it all. The Royale Hideaway is quite expensive, but you are paying for a first class hotel, premium drinks, service and an adults only atmosphere.

There is a small shopping mall right across the street from the hotel where I bought a bracelet. Of course there's shopping in the airport, but it is a little expensive.
