Old World Charm
I just arrived back from my trip of 10-06 – 10-13. I had a great week and wish I was still there! The Royal Hideaway is the antithesis of all the Yucatan Peninsula resorts. Rather than share the typical new age take on the Mayan Culture, RH looked and felt like something out of an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. Each villa had similar architecture, but each was a tad different, not the usual cookie cutter approach. The grounds were completely wooded by indigenous trees, tropical palms, and an assortment of visible and semi hidden pools. Overall, the resort was rich in character and peacefulness. The beach was awesome…the revitalization after the hurricane damage was money well spent. I enjoyed most of my time to the right under a variety of palm trees. I recommend taking a walk along the beach in either direction. If you head north you can make it into town in a half hour. The staff was the friendliest I have ever encountered; they all went out of their way to make each guest seem special. It felt great to be constantly greeted by name. At each dinner’s end, the host/hostess would ask if there was anything more they can do for me that night. Special kudos go out to Laura, Ingrid, Christopher, Alex, Isis, Ricardo and countless others. The concierge is a nice perk and he was very helpful for my first two days. Unfortunately mine went MIA on Monday morning, never to return. Every restaurant had its own unique qualities. My favorite was Palazzo, I suggest dining outside on the terrace, if the weather is clear, you can see the Cozumel skyline. Tip…enjoy your lunches at Spices. One minor note… I have read in other previous reviews about tiny portions; my portions were fine. However, if not, the wait staff was happy to bring you more of any course you preferred…many guests dined on multiple deserts. The Night Life was a bit subdued, and most guests did not partake. My favorite night was Karaoke night; the wedding party of the day seemed to have a good time The RH could move up to 5 stars with a few minor tweaks… • At the two o’clock hour live music was performed by a saxapone/flautist. It would have been nice to have music the entire day. On my final Saturday morning, light jazz/new age music was piped on to the beach. It should have been played all week • Since it was the off season, and the resort was less than 50% capacity, a few scheduled events did not happen. Most disappointing was the elimination of breakfast at Ventanas... Since I’m not a buffet guy, I really missed the sit down breakfast. • Nightly entertainment could have been improved with the addition of a vocalist, rather than just instrumentalists. Finally, I met some nice guests who made the trip that much more enjoyable…, Y at dinner, A&M at the Allegria Bar, and. B&M at the gym.

Great Anniversary Getaway
The wife and I just returned from celebrating our 5th anniversary at Royal Hideaway. Our first stay here was for our honeymoon; it was everything we remembered and more. The staff is amazing! Our concierge, Aileen, helped us with several requests. She was wonderful. The waiters at the pool are always coming by to take your order. You are never in need of anything. The food is outstanding. We enjoyed all of the restaurants. We went fishing one day and The Grill was more than willing to cook up some of our catch. You will not get better at an all-inclusive anywhere. Last but certainly not least, the pool and beach are wonderful. The beach has been restored/recovered since we were down in 2007; it is truly beautiful.

Staff is great! As an older gay couple, we couldn't have been treated better. The guests were from all over the world. Lots of salesmen who received incentives and newlyweds. Definitely a couples-oriented place. Restaurants were for the most part good and sometimes great. Spices and Azia were our favorites. The Italian place was very stuffy and not so great. Fish tacos at the beach bar were outstanding.

Excellent hotel with excellent food and drinks, excellent service, excellent swimming and walking white sand beach, free Wi-Fi. All watersports are just steps. Convenient place to get to 3 famous archaeological sites: Tulum, Chichen-Itsa, and Coba. Service is really exceptional. William and Lenin, you are the best.

Beware corporate groups
What should have been a wonderful return to a quiet, romantic, relaxing resort was completely spoiled by the presence of a loud, drunken corporate group who completely took over the resort. The grounds were beautiful, the staff was wonderful as always, but it was impossible to relax and decompress in a spring break atmosphere. After 6 visits, we may not return.

Perfect hideway
We spent 1 week a this nice resort. it was fantastic. Beach and water : large beach and clear water the resort is situated at 20 minutes wald from playa del carmen. there is 5 restos. It is a real 5 stars and all the guests dress up at night (the dress code is inforced ant it is a good thing). The night life is basic (no show) but this resort is dedicates to people wanting to relax around the pool without the loud music...
