Sad experience

My wife wanted to spend time in cabanas on the ocean and the hotel looked like a good choice. But it is not. The pictures are nice but in reality we got a room in an ugly building (not a cabana) near the road. It had a balcony directed to the coast ("sea view"). The surrounding area is not impressive too. The beach is dirty with weeds, the cafes accepts cash only, ATM does not work good (need to get to the town), no walking path for pedestrians, need to share road with cars. Probably it is normal for this area but we were not prepared. And yes, price for that is way high.

A great deal of potential

This hotel is in a beautiful location but could be so much better with a few simple and mostly inexpensive improvements. The room was lovely and right on a beautiful beach but there were a few issues. The bed was as hard as a rock and the pillows were really quite gross. We ended up buying our own pillows at a local store as well as a pad for the mattress. There was no towel bar or toilet paper holder in the bathroom and no shower curtain. Needless to say the bathroom became soaked every time the shower was used. The hotel is on a lovely and quiet beach but the man who ran the restaurant was constantly yelling and smoking on the walkway right outside of the rooms. We found this annoying to say the least. The hot water and electricity did not work every day and the wifi did not work in the room. There were many annoyed guests arguing with reception and some people left to find better accommodations. This could be a great place but for now it would require improvement before I would return or recommend it to a friend.

An Okay hotel

Our stay in this hotel was basic. First, we were promised a standard sea view room which we did not get. We were put in a room above the reception area which was fine pretty small, but tolerable. We did not plan on staying indoors anyway so we didn't have any great expectations about the room. The only main negative thing I have to put attention to is the electricity and water the power and flush can go on and off throughout the day. However, this is something we expected since Tulum is a remote area and not as developed as some parts of mexico. If you expect a standard westernized hotel, don't stay here. On the bright side, the hotel has private access to the beach with beach lounges and hammock.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are many wonderful restaurants,lounges/bars down the strip. I recommend Tunich across the street for breakfast friendly staff and great food!. Restaurare is also a fun place to eat..they are a vegan restaurant but the food was amazing and the exotic jungle ambiance is to die for!

Hotel Posada del Sol

We were enchanted with the hotel from the beginning. We got a good recommendation for dinner across the street at Puro Corazon, but when we went back to the room our key would not open the door. Next there was no running water in our room. They said they would try to fix it by morning, but they were not able to. We decided to check into another hotel.

our semi sour honeymoon

First we had no hot water for 3 days and were not accommodated for that in any way. Imagine spending a whole day on the beach in the heat and sand and having to take cold showers. Sounds like a good idea? Not so much, when you have a sunburn. Then the lights at the hotel kept going off, so you'd be in the darkness till the next morning. Bugs everywhere, including giant cockroaches. So when lights are off, the only means of air supply -ceiling fan, would be off and the fact that you have to sleep under mosquito net where there's no air unless the fan is on, was not a pleasurable experience. The staff were great, except for a couple of occasions where the kitchen staff tried to charge extra money when I asked them to pour hot water into my own cup instead of theirs. The maid, although nice, seemed to do the bear minimum, a little more with larger tips. One day we were left with no towels. The only person worthy of mentioning is Fernando, at the front desk. He is the glue that is holding the place together. Very nice guy, professional and knowledgeable. Will not stay there again, even though location was convenient for us.

Mateo's is the best and very close. Try their burgers! Another amazing burger joint is off the road, hawaian burgers, not too far off the highway 307.

Posada Punta Piedra Tulum's Perfect Getaway!

Posada Punta Piedra was the perfect place to stay for a wonderful vacation. Easy to get to - an hour drive from Cancun airport, it is out-of-the way of the rash of brash college kids and group tours that crowd Cancun and Playa del Carmen. At Posada Punta Piedra, we had our own private beach, shared only with the 8-12 other guests. The location is great too - easy drives to Gran Cenote, Dos Ojos, as well as archeological sites. And about a mile from Tulum's main drag. Great eats - Hartwood, as well as local on-the-beach or in town options. And spas with clay massage service on cliffs right on the oceans. The food at Punta Piedra is good too. And the staff friendly. The maid even made swan-like sculptures out of towels that looked lovely and made our trip even more romantic. Free wifi, but no AC or frig. Parking might be a challenge during the high season.

Delayed honeymoon!

This hotel would have gotten a higher rating if the beds were more comfortable. I like a firm bed but these were pretty hard and when all you want to do is relax and get caught up on sleep, an uncomfortable mattress is a real bummer. The other thing that could use improvement is their continental breakfast. Every morning we were given a carafe of hot water, tea and coffee packets, packaged muffins and cookies. I appreciated the coffee but had to find my own breakfast each morning. But overall, the hotel was great. The staff was nice. We had the best room in the place. The balcony faced the ocean and had a hammock and futon so my husband and I could read and nap outside. Bonus: we took a tour with an employee of the hotel's restaurant. Ignacio took us snorkling in 2 cenotes. It was fantastic!
