DO NOT TALK TO H10 PREMIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!

The resort was great! Clean, courteous, and great food. Do not fall victim of H10 tour though. They are trying to sell you a time share, and very aggressively at that. After wasting 3 hours of my life I starting getting very frustrated with the way they were talking to me but still TRIED to politely express that I wasn't interested. When we finally got out of the room our "guide" wouldn't talk to us as we walked back across the property...real mature!!! As long as you don't do the H10 tour you will have a great time.

relaxing retreat

If you are looking for a relaxing trip with very little or no shopping this is a good hotel for you...not close to any Mexican shopping locations but they did have a Mexican flea market brought to the hotel....many choices in food..nice coffee shop..very energetic entertainment staff..loved the professional photography compliments of the hotel staff. (u do purchase pics at the end)..it captures many precious vacation memories...there is a nice family area separated from the main party pools which was nice. .don't waste ur money upgrading to ocean front room.. The way the hotel is shaped no view is worth the extra money. Other hotels we have stayed at in Mexico have been breath taking. This was only average.

like a 2nd honeymoon!

The good. We had a great time. 1st time without any kids ever. Enjoyed each others company immensly. The resort was bigger than I thought it would be. 4 pools, lots of bars and lots of choices to eat. No shortage of food and drink (6 lbs extra for me). Our maid was wonderful (tipped her a few bucks everyday). The minibar was just that "mini". It consited of 4 different cans of soda/pop, 2 cans of beer and 2 water bottles and they refilled that once a day. The food at the buffet was fantastic everyday. They make the best omelettes. Irving in the buffet restaurant was the best server. Best bartender was Omar in the lobby bar. Bring a refillable insulated mug or cup because they will fill it for you and the drinks stay cold longer. The fastest bar to go to during the day is the one by the kiddie pool. We were so beat every night that we missed all the shows they put on in the theater. We heard that they were great. We found a palapa every morning but by 8 am they were usually all reserved. The pool chairs didn't fill up until 11 or 12. Once we checked out we expected them to take our all inclusive wrist bands but they didnt so we got to enjoy more drinks while waiting for our bus ride to the airport. They cut them bands off when we were getting in the bus. That was nice. We were able to eat and drink until we actually left the property for the last time. The bad (or lesser good lol) the location of the resort is in the middle of nowhere. Every cab ride is $45.00 minimum. Only walking you can do is up and down the beach. We walked 3 miles each way to the fishing village of Puerto Moreles which was nice (even the nude resort we walked by lol). The sand and water does not even compare to Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. You have to deal with some seaweeds and the water has no waves to speak of (if you like waves anyway). The water is not as blue and clear as the others. Not a deal breaker tho. Lastly the sports place "Score" had ok food. I never seen such small ribs in my life. I told my wife that it was pigeon ribs. I wasn't too happy because they didn't have the NHL playoffs there without pestering and getting a resort manager to find it on the tv. Everyday I would as if they had any hockey games and the answer was automatically (without looking) "No Senor, no hockey". If you like watching soccer than this is the place to go. No shortage of soccer games on the tv's.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Going on the shopping tour to from the hotel concierge to Playa Del Carmen was nice. Good prices and great beach. Just don't eat or drink at Lacosta's on the beach. The old guy with the ballcap asked us if we wanted a cerveza for "A buck a beer". Knowing that is a great price I repeated "A buck a beer"? He said "yes". So we sat down for a couple Dos Equis'. We drank four between the 2 of us so Iwas leaving a US $5.00 bill ($1.00 tip). He calls us back and said we drank 4 and I said yes so there is a buck tip also. He said the total was $8.00 US and after a little disagreement we just gave him 100 pesos and left. If you are going to eat or drink there just remember to get your prices straight before you sit down. 45 minute drive to and from Playa Del Carmen. Bring extra suntan lotion or you will spend $15.00-$20.00 for a bottle down there.

Needs improvement

Ground-floor rooms smell like sewer. Front desk staff and management need to be more helpful and have better alternate plans when customer complains about sewer smell and technical issues in the room. Apparently, this is a resort-wide issue.

Favorite spot!

This was our first trip to the Carribean and we are so happy that we decided to go to Ocean Coral & Turquesa! Their staff is amazing. Everyone was always very nice, helpful, and willing to help. Lots of options for food, reservations are super easy to make and there is always an option of the amazing buffet if you dont feel like making a reservation! Overall, great place and amazing service! Will definitely go back again!

Beautiful

This was our first time in Mexico, so I don't have anything to compare this resort to. However, the staff was friendly, the location beautiful, the rooms spacious, and the food wonderful Loved our time there. DO NOT go with the transportation offered in connection with this booking . This company is not affiliated with the resort. We had to ride in the van two extra hours to get to the resort because our driver went to the wrong hotel. Also, we booked our tours through them. We had to pay an extra fee everyone else on the bus didn't have to pay. Also, we were not informed that one of the spots was a swimming and we didn't bring our suits. Bad experience with them.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Get a little money in Pesos. You always get change back in in Pesos and it isn't at a good rate. Also, bring a lot of ones for tips. Everything is included but tips seem appropriate. Be careful when booking your transportation to and from the airport.

Great Hotel and AMAZING staff!!

Travelled to the Ocean Coral from Jan 21 to Jan 31st 2012 with a non privileged package (not worth the extra 65$ a day for the excellent service received regardless). This hotel exceeded all of my expectations. The hotel itself was a perfect size, everything was located within a 5-7 minute walk and the scenery was gorgeous. The food at the buffet was very pleasant with an extensive salad bar and many options for meat or fish. The A la Cartes were very good as well. We visited all the a la cartes and our favourites were the japanese followed by the italian. The creperie was very good as well however we only went there for desert. The rooms were always kept very clean. The hotel is very economical with censored lights that turn on and off with movement. Also the towel exchange only occurs once the used towels are put in the tub for the maid. This works out every well so only the used towels get replaced. There was a tiny bit of water that travelled from the shower to the toilet area due to the way the bathroom was designed however it was nothing unmaintainable. The nightlife at the hotel was pretty decent compared to other five star hotels we have stayed at in the Mayan. There was always a pool or beach party or some kind of event (casino night, 90's night etc..) happening in the lobby which was very fun. The entertainment staff at this hotel was absolutely amazing. We loved every one of them. They made our trip 100 times more enjoyable. The only negative thing i have to say for this hotel is the bell boy service for getting taxis to leave the hotel. The hotel is situated in a "jungle" area so there is a 5 minute drive down a smaller road to get to the main road. This cab ride is only 100 pesos. from the main road you can take a bus going to either Cancun or Playa del Carmen which is 25 pesos a person. This option is much much cheaper than taking a 450-550 peso cab ride to playa or cancun (one way). Knowing this we opted to the first option, however the bell boys at the front of the hotel tried to lie to us and convince us that it was way to difficult and dangerous to take the bus. This was not the case what so ever and it was very unappreciative. For this reason we never tipped them. This however was not a big issue for us. We simply said no and it was done with. I would return to this hotel in a heart beat. I would also like to thank all of the wonderful staff that made our trip extremely enjoyable: Leo, Denisse, Michelle, Oscar, Hector, Griselda and Rocio. We will definitely be returning to this hotel.

girls vacation!

The staff are amazing! They are so hospitable and friendly. Event though it's all inclusive, we tipped regularly and the staff did give extra attention so it was worth it. They work darn hard and deserved it. The food is okay, and there is plenty of it! We had a room with an ocean view and it was worth the extra $20, that's nothing to have the waves lull you to sleep at night. The VIP breakfast tour is a time share sales pitch and wasted too much time. We got a credit for spa services that were just average. We had a blast and enjoyed the low key atmosphere. It was relaxing and what I was looking for. Great value!

Nightlife tip: In Hotel

The entertainment staff is super friendly and they work very hard to keep the guests engaged. They do some of their own shows in the hotel and they are pretty amateur, but funny. They do offer a shuttle to Playa for CoCo Bongo. Do that! it is worth it and they have a staff member with you so you won't get lost. The pool parties at night are fun and we met many new friends there. :)

Perfect vacation again!!!

We stayed at this hotel second time. And it was even better than first one. If you travel with kids, ask for a room by the kids pool. The beach and the pool was 1 minute walking from our room. Very convinient with the baby. Good food and drinks. Staff works realy hard. Amazing grounds. Just 20 min. drive from the airport.
