mexican malaise

I went to the Iberostar beach resort in the Mayan riviera, First of all, the check in process was easy and quick. The grounds were beautifully kept and large, Waiking great distances is a must. Resturants at one end, the beach at another, And with 5 resorts in one you can get lost. For me the dissapointment was the food; buffet was a small selection and poor quality. I was sick all 10 days I was there. Only the reserv. resturants were good. The service was wonderful and they were always trying to improve the stay if you had complaints. I went during low season so part of the pool where the whirlpool and waterfall was closed for repairs; except for that I pretty much had the place to myself. 40% capacity they said. chairs by the pool and beach were no problem. Beach is beautiful, the waves were small enough to enjoy the warm clear blue-green of the carribean, and fish were plentiful. You could feed them and get good pics. Coati-mundis are members of the raccoon family, they are pleinitful and friendly, don't feed them or you will have a mob frenzy. They had swans, flamingos, peacocks, parrots and a few cats on the resort also. The animals were plentiful as were the misquitos. bring bug spray the resort is built on swampland; stagnant water everywhere. Even at the end of september by 9am it was so hot you were covered in sweat. The sun is very strong, With 30spf and staying in the shade burning was still a problem. The Yucatan seemed a safe place for tourist, federali's check- points between state borders; getting out of the resort for excursions is a must. The Mayan sites and Cenotes were great. Very hot to the point 1 women in her 60's almost passed out; bring an umbrella for shade and extra water. Overall a nice trip, but I wont be going back. Puerta Vallharta and Ixtapa are not as hot and were better.

Great getaway for alone time.

For anyone that says this hotel is bad do not know what they are talking about. From the moment we checked in we were treated wonderfully. We ate at the Japanese which is fantastic as well as the Steakhouse which was wonderful as well. Brasillian not that good. Luis and Lionel and also Demitre were the best bartenders. No matter where you ate you were catered to. Buffets had a lot to choose from. Pools were not overly crowded we could aleays find a seat. Room was cleaned every day and she changed the towel figure every day. The only complaint would be we stayed at Paraiso and you can only go to del mar hotel. Which if you are staying at the lindo, maya, or beach adults only you can go to any one of them.

A good place to be

Third time at this hotel with my family. Nine years ago I rated it at 4.5, this time, I'd say it's around 3.5. The food was OK for us, we were never hungry and were always able to find something good. Most of the food was the same in the buffet. Reservation restaurants were all good. Service was OK. Many activities to enjoy: pool, beach, ocean, air gun shooting, games, snorkling, sailing, etc. If you're going for more than a week, I strongly suggest to get an excursion. We went to XCARET park and had lots of fun there. Swimming in the underground river, snorkling on the beach, swimming with dolphins and sharks was lots of fun as well.

Iberostar Paraiso Beach, Riviera Maya Mexico

Stayed between 08-06-2011 and 08-20-2011. Good value for your money. Family oriented resort. Food: In general, good enough not to get tired of it after two weeks...there was a varity. A la carte restaurants were quite good. Resort: Exterior, pools, lobby, grounds...etc...beautiful Transportation: Grayline...did not meet expectations. Orbitz should consider breaking ties with this transport company in Cancun. More reliable transportation is available at the Cancun airport...hop into a cab for less than half the price Grayline charges...the following was gauranteed by Grayline prior to arrival but not made available: cold bottle of water for every passenger, free phone call anywhere in North America. Would use Orbitz once again in the future.

Beautiful

The resort is absolutely beautiful. There are three recommendations for going to Mexico. 1) Bring more sunscreen and bug spray than you think you need, 2)yes it is hot!, bring light clothing and cover up even in the pool--you will burn, and 3) go to the concierge first to get reservations to the restaurants you wish to eat at. They are delicious and fill up fast. No complaints. Swim up bars are awesome and scuba diving was really cool. The resort is wonderful, wish i had gone in spring/fall however as it was very warm.

Great Vacation Spot

Great. Always choose Iberostar. Food is great. Our housekeeping wasn't what we usually get from Iberostar. I think we must have had a new person. Definately would give it another try.

Great vacation

We really enjoyed our stay at Iberostar Paraiso Maya. The room was great, comfortable and very clean. The staff is polite and helpful. Check in and out were fast and easy. I thought the hotel was a very good choice for staying with a young child (we have 2 year old); there is a playground, the pool areas suitable for kids, and great beach (the sea was not calm though), all restaurants (except 1 - gourmet adult only) and common areas are kids friendly. the only slight disappointments were the nightly entertainment shows and there is not that many healthy food choices. The food overall was good, especially at the a la carte diner restaurants. But if you try to eat healthy and natural, your selection is not that big. You won't leave hungry though :). Overall great stay.
