Rain, rain go away
Returned from one week stay on 10/19. Rained 4 days straight. The buildings were not designed for this apparently, as they leaked every five feet. Flooding water on tile floors not a good mixture. The activities were changed to bingo and roulette in the bar. Sports bar was not open as had other awards meetings or just plain closed. No US TV so if you don't like to watch soccer, what else to do? We went to covered shopping center in Cancun ($55.00 each way) just for entertainment. Food is very good, but very similar in all locations. Italian, Gormet, and Surf and Turf all had fish, steak, lobster. Staff is very courteous but is not encouraged to sit and visit as in the Maya. They are there to serve you, not talk to you. Preferred the rooms here, the atmosphere and activities at the Maya were much better. This was our second time and we were not impressed this time. Beware of being "upsold" on the fine wines, they are NOT included. Great when you could lay out at the pool, not so much otherwise. Couples massage was very enjoyable but it is $250.00. Cancun had some really nice new hotels that would have been closer to action for those days when you had no sun.

Amazing staff...best vacation ever!
My husband and I enjoyed a much-needed kid-free vacation last week and had the best experience ever. The staff at the Iberostar Grand was like none other. Everyone was so friendly, polite, and helpful. No request was too much for them. The room was very nice and clean (with the expection of occasional bug...you are near the jungle). I found the bed extremely comfortable and the "pillow menu" was an added treat. We were given an upgrade to ocean front room. The view from our patio was beautiful. The beach was clean and had plenty of lounge chairs to choose from. Although we visited during low-occupancy time, the resort and staff gave the same value and quality as if it were peak season. We are already planning our next stay. This was my first time in Mexico and I was thrilled. We booked two excursions through the travel agency in the hotel. The American Express agent seemed a bit clueless and she kept having to contact us about our purchase. She seemed very confused most of the time. She was not an employee of the resort. We went on the Mayan Extreme trip to Talum and had a great time. Our guide [...]was awesome. We also took a reef snorkeling tour through Maroma Paradise. It was a great experience as well. The only thing I would have changed is I would have stayed longer!

Really Grand
This place was beautiful with great service. Food and drinks were good and plenty of activities to do. Ocean Front corner room with jacuzzi's was awesome. Only negatives were that the ala cart restaurants were by reservations only. This is where Excellence Playa Mujeres was better.

A Four Seasons Experience at normal cost
This resort is visually stunning. It actually looks better at night when lit up. It is very large and has many areas to escape to and explore. The service is very good and friendly. Rooms are large with nice bathrooms, the bed was comfortable. We had an ocean front terrace which was beautiful in the mornings for sunrise. We have stayed at many hotels at all levels and for the cost I feel this is a Four Seasons experience at a normal price. There are many fine details that you get at a Four Seasons that you dont get at Iberostar but you realize how unimportant they are for a beach vacation. Everyone should know that you dont go to an all inclusive resort for the food. While it is not gormet we were never unhappy with our meals. We are from New York City and are spoiled with the best restaurants in the world and still were able to enjoy our food. The wine is not that great but you need to try a few to find what you want/like. They are happy to let you do so. Liquor is all top shelf and plentiful which made the trip fun. The entertainment was actually great. The Rock show and Boogie Nights were the best. Our only complaint is that there is not enough outdoor dining space that is shaded during breakfast and Lunch. The lunch restaurant on the beach front is a beautiful spot for lunch, though there are too few umbrellas. Even so we seemed to get one most of the time. Daniel was a fantastic waiter and should be promoted.

The best hide-away in Mexico
My wife and I have stayed at the Grand Paraiso resort three previous times. Each time we find that the facilities, the rooms, the amenities, the staff and the food are all beyond compare and that is why we keep goping back. This particular resort is adjacent to four other Iberostar resorts and guests at this resort are allowed to use the facilities at the other resorts. This resort, however, does not admit children and its facilities are restricted to its own guests.

Instead of going to Playa Del Carmin to shop you might consider going a few miles futher south to Playa Car. There is another Iberostar resort a few minutes walk from Playa Car. Playa Car has a number of small shops that have almost everything you could find at Palaya Del Carmin, with comparable prices and much less hassle.
