The Grand is just that

Spent May 17-22 at the Grand Paraiso. The facility is beautiful and very well maintained. It seems to be first class in all regards. The food is good - not great. but I'm a foodie , it takes a lot to impress me. I was disappointed with the Japanese restaurant- clearly the weak link in their premier dining. Daily buffet had great variety - for a buffet it was well done. Breakfast room service is a "must do". The staff is the shining star at this resort. Everyone has a smiling face and is very eager to help. The beach is nice but a bit rough when we were there and has some rocks. Make the short trek (5 minute walk) to the north (another Iberostar property) and swim there if you really want to get in the surf. Staying at the Grand Paraiso you get access to all the Iberostar properties. The gym facility at the Grand Paraiso is very nice as well- great place to work off those extra calories. We didn't go to any of the shows but I heard that most people liked them - they started at 10 pm and we were just too tired after a full day relaxing ! The Star Partners are genuinely fun and try to get you involved in activities -- you can do a s little or as much as you wish. My only real complaint is the "towel game" played each day to reserve prime spots . I got up at 7:00 am and all the good places around the saltwater pool were already taken ! That's a joke! Some of those spots didn't have someone show all day. By day 3 we just sat where we wanted and moved if the "owner" showed up - which only happened once . They should fix this problem. We had a beach front corner room with outdoor jacuzzi - cant get much better than that!! The front office staff are very responsive to your requests and we set up our dinner reservations via email before the trip - I'd advise this as you may not get prime time seating if you wait until you arrive at the property. I'd highly recommend them to someone looking for a luxury all inclusive adults only resort.

We had a car and went into Playa del Carmen and Akamul and shopped and ate. I'd recommend it if you have a vehicle. Akamul is like I remember Cancun 30 + years ago.

Worth The money !

We just came back from an eight day vacation at the Iberostar Grand. The trip was fantastic. The good: There are 3 pools, one in the spa (very relaxing and hardly used), one large main pool (with swim up bar, games, music, etc.) and one quiet pool (this is where I stayed while not at the beach. Which, by the way, was large and had plenty of chairs). All kept clean, towels placed on chairs / lounges for use, etc. The rooms were adequate, the hotel staff was very attentive. The Better: The food was great. While there I met some that told me that the food was OK, but I found it much better than OK. Lobster at lunch and dinner !! Grouper, shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops, steak, etc. They had it all in the buffets. (if you want to eat in the 4 main restaurants make sure to make your reservations for the week as soon as you get there) The Best: The entire Iberostar staff - from the "Star Friends", to the hotel staff, to the bartenders, to the waiters and waitresses..... They all were very friendly and not a sad face on them. Even though they work so hard they went out of their way to make you feel at home and to help you in any way they can. All in all a great trip.

fantastic vacation

It was a great expirience to stay in the iberostar Grand hotel in the Playa Paraiso. It let me to do what I " would dreamed about on vacation : to put on a nice dress for the dinner in the fine restaurant...participate in the Zumba classes on the beach...shop in the Playa De Carmen...swim in the ocean and sip Champaine...

great for groups of couples

From the moment we arrived the staff was courteous, and eager to help us with all of our needs. It is an all-inclusive and while that often means watered down and bottom-shelf drinks and subpar food, that was not the case here. Top shelf alcohol flowed freely, and the food was excellent for a buffet. Should you like, there were several restaurants available at dinner for traditional sit-down meal. Of these, the Japanese restaurant stands out for food quality. There were two enormous swimming pools (one could scarcely see people on opposite side of the pool!) The main pool had an open bar and soft music from 11am to 6pm. Despite that, the clientele is definitely not a spring-break-in-Cancun crowd, and riotous partying was not encouraged. The Other pool (Tranquility Pool) had no music or bar, but plenty of cabanas and chairs, and was geared towards those who wanted quiet and peace to read a book. Nonetheless, waitress service was available at either one for water, juice, or alcoholic beverages. This is an adults-only resort, without being necessarily a Romantic Honeymoon only place. I.E. it is a fun appropriate place for groups of couples who are friends to travel to together. We went as part of a 3 couple group celebrating our friend's 40th birthday, and we had an excellent time. Of course, there were the usual caribbean beach activities available including jet-skis, short snorkelling excursions, and para-sailing. Re: safety, the grounds of the hotel complex are gated and constantly patrolled by staff. At no time did any of us feel unsafe or uncomfortable, and we even left our phones outside the hotel room safe without fear of theft. The water provided is filtered, and not one of us got sick from the food or water, and we all ate fresh vegetables, chicken, seafood, etc. As usual, the water in the hotel sink is not for drinking, but bottled water was plentiful. The rooms was clean, with marble floors everywhere, and maintained twice daily by the maid. I highly recommend the place to adult couples as a safe, clean, great value, with excellent staff, food, and beverages which is rare for an all-inclusive.

Great Vacation, Great Resort, Great Staff

My wife and I visited Iberostar. We had a wonderful time at this resort. We stayed one week in august. The room was spectacular. We had an ocean front room and the view could not get any better. The balcony had a hammock and lounge.. very comfortable! The bed was so comfortable and they even had a pillow menu to choose which pillow you want to sleep with. The staff cleaned the room every day and kept our mini fridge stocked. The resort was beautiful. The architecture of the buildings and pools was grand. The resort had bars all over, as well. The pool area would get busy some days, so you had to come early and claim your spot (if you wanted a cabana or to lay in the shade). The restaurants on the other hand could be better for the price you pay. They had different cuisines for each restaurant. Our favorite was the Japanese restaurant, we went there twice. Once in front of the hibachi and once at our own table. The breakfast/lunch/dinner buffet was great-- they had a lot of different options. Highly recommend. I would have to say the staff was amazing! The entertainment staff made you feel at home and tried their very best to make sure everyone was enjoying their trip. We really thought everyone was great, especially Jesus, Augustin and Carolina! We saw them everyday on our trip and they always stopped to see how we were doing. Overall, I would recommend this if you want to get away and enjoy sometime with your spouse/gf/bf or even friends. We saw groups of friends on the resort as well.

Wonderful romantic getaway

We had a few problems with our room (light sensors malfunctioned repeatedly...we were in the dark way too often, and the toilet ran if you didn't jingle the handle). But, the overall amenities in the room and the resort, added to the attentiveness of the concierge and staff, MORE than made up for it. Heidi (concierge in building 70) arranged special birthday surprises for my husband and went out of her way to help. She was INCREDIBLE! We will definitely be back!
