Enjoyable but isolated with food poisoning

Our trip was enjoyable for the most part except for the inability to eat in desired dining locations so had to order take out in our room. Food poisoning ensued. Amenities are many as long as you do not desire to leave premises. Expensive to participate in activities offsite as taxis and other forms of transportation are limited and expensive. If you desire a resort with no plans to go offsite this is a great place to stay. If you want to site see stay elsewhere

family travel

When I arrived to check in, the front desk guy was not friendly and seems reluctant to serve me. I mentioned about my email request for the ocean view balcony room and he refused it by saying it's subject to availability. I, then asked about the resort credit that I was entitled to and he refused to honour it by saying it's not printed on my itinerary. It was off to a wrong start, but the bell boy was nice and drove us to the room. It's a bottom floor room facing the mangrove filled with mosquitos. The housekeeper must have left the balcony door opened and that's how the mosquitos got in. We then spent the next hour getting rid of it only to find water was leaking out of the basin causing a huge puddle on the tile floor that needed to be mopped upt. The manager was notified and suggested having someone repair this at almost 11pm. I was really tired after a long flight and prefer it to be fixed the next day. The manager was considerate and agree to have a room change. I was pretty satisfied to have another room the next day and the rest of the stay was quite pleasant. The food was really good. The beach is nice, but small. The housekeeper did an excellent job cleaning the room. Overall it was quite relaxing.

Will not come back

El Cid has a lot to offer families however the service was not very good. The food was very average. On the bright side, the pool area is very large and the kids really liked there. We have stayed at 4 other all inclusives in the Riviera Maya, and this one just didn't compare to the others. Bartender service was poor. Beach not for snorkeling.

Great family hotel

We went during Thanksgiving with our two boys, 6 and 9. It was a great resort for the family. They loved the cliff jump, water slide, and pool games. The beach was great. A little rocky, but we stayed down towards the right and it was fine. Beach was clean; sand was perfect for sand castles, and drink service was great. It was pretty crowded when we were there, but we had no problem getting a palapa, beach chairs, or pool chairs. Great vacation and great hotel for the price; I would stay there again if going with kids.

Platinum Club - thumbs down

Paid extra for platinum club, primarily for guaranteed ocean front , and most of all for 3pm check out. Well 3pm check out is actually noon, even on a tuesday. Then negotiated to keep one room till 2 but other was needed as new guests were coming and room needed to be cleaned. Maid never came till after 2 for one room and could have easily kept our rooms till 3pm as mentioned advantage of "platinum club". Our trip was planned around the 3pm checkout. Ocean front was ocean front however ground floor obstructed by trees, no ocean view. Cab prices are insane in this area. 10 bucks to shoot to puerto morelos just down road. Not crazy there, but go another 10 minutes to crococun zoo, 50usd one way! pool and staff awesome!! thanks gilberto and erik. kids loved the waterslide and cliff jumping at pool. beach area closest to marina is free of rocks and great, other end has rocks in water. fishing trip was good. xel ha great. crococun zoo awesome for kids no plans to stay at this resort any time soon due to zero interest in staff willingness to rectify platinum club issues. they just plain didnt care.

Marina El Cid Sept 2012

My husband and I went to this resort for 5 nights looking for a relaxing getaway. I can definitely say it was relaxing! We had a nice time but this is not a 4-star resort. The food was ok, but with only four restaurants, we had just one option for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day. They would close down the others. The seafood restaurant didn't even change its menu. However, the quality of food and presentation was better than expected. We enjoyed the Mexican restaurant the best. It was open for lunch daily. The biggest negative of this place is that it gets very BORING around 9:00 p.m. The shows were pretty pathetic. The DJ didn't appear until Fri/Sat and played only Mexican music. Considering you have people from around the world, a little broader catalog would have been nice. Plus only about 20 people came so the others must have known something we didn’t. Other than that, there was absolutely nothing to do. It was pretty dead. The spa was VERY nice. We had manis, pedis, and massages on the beach. No complaints there. We even sat through a 90-minute time share presentation to save $100 off the massage. It lasted 90 minutes and we were done. I don’t know how some people said it lasted 3 hours. I let them know they had 90 minutes and that was it. I agree with the bed comments---hard as a brick. We had a one-bedroom oceanfront suite. Platinum is the way to go. The room, grounds, all clean but lots of seaweed on the beach. The pool was great! Overall, we rate it a 3-star resort, but would not come back because of the lack of night life. We’re not party animals, but I’m not joking when I say it was BORING!!!
