nice place for kids

Nice resort. Wait staff were always very pleasant. The beach is ok...but alot of seaweed. Should find a better to pick it up Rocks as you venture out into the water, so be careful. Not a long beach for walking but the sand is nice.

Pleasantly surprised

We weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. The staff at the pool and in the restaurants were eager to help and more than pleasant. We turned down the offers for an upgrade and were so happy that we did- our room had a great view of the pool and the ocean. This hotel seems like a great choice for couples and families. We had no desire to go off the premises, but most of what we would want to see (like the Mayan ruins) would have been way too far away. This was the perfect choice for a relaxing, affordable, and enjoyable stay.

50th Wedding Celebration

We had a great room, well appointed with good view. Food was ordinary and service in one restaurant not good. Drink selection was fine but bars for an evening drink limited. The main bar too noisy with poor accoustics and the pool bar inconvenient. Not much chance to dance. Liked the outdoor location for the shows. Excellent cental swimming/recreation area. Beach OK but windy when we were there so can't really comment. We would go again but will probably look at alternatives.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Local Botanical garden is wild (unsophisticated) but good if you are truly interested in plants and wildlife. Wild monkeys, armadillos and lots of warblers when we were there. Short taxi ride.

We will not return to this resort

First the positive. The resort was beautiful and the rooms were amazing. We had the spa suite which was awesome!!! The staff was friendly. My 12 year old daughter loved the cliff jump at the swimming pool. The boogie boards and kayaks were included and very fun. Now the negative....the food was horrible. First vacation ever that I didn't gain weight. No snacky type foods anywhere in between meals. We had to go into town to buy snacks for the kids. Beach was rocky. Need to be careful, all floor surfaces inside and out are VERY slippery. Everyone in our party slipped many times, several fell during the week. If you are looking for a night life this resort is not for you!!! Lobby bar is the only place to "hang out" in the evening. Resort basically shut down by 10 pm. They were constantly running out of alcohol and water. Wi-fi was available but cost $60 a week. We will not return to this resort!!!
