Great beach resort!

The rooms were spacious and very nice. The beach was gorgeous with some sandy areas and some rocky areas. Plenty of beach chairs. Lots of food choices at buffet and easy to get into a la carts restaurants. I love the jungle atmosphere. It is a big resort so quite a bit of walkiing.

Could be Better

Staff was rude, transportation within the resort was horrible. Food was pretty good with allot of selection. The ocean was wonderful! Overall I don't think I will be back to that specific resort though.

not for wine lovers

We enjoyed our stay at kantenah grand palladium , but just were not wowed. the good: - Rooms were nicely updated and spacious. each had balcony. we had jungle view , as did most people. Very few ocean views at this resort. -Beach is nice, and long. Lots of chairs on the beach with lots of shade palms and palapas. Never had a problem with getting a seat, even without playing the 'towel game' at the crack of dawn. -We did enjoy the tepanaki restaurant/show table, and went twice. To reserve a seat , you have to be at the reservation desk at the main lobby before 8 a.m. to reserve the next day. Not a problem for me, but if you are not an early riser, don't count on eating there. Seats go very quickly. -Buildings are separated by jungle type foliage, so each building seems secluded, and there is a lot of wildlife on site, coatimundi( a type of racoon), iguana, possum. Makes the walks around the complex interesting. They also have penned in flamingoes and crocodiles. -snorkeling off the beach is decent. the resort is also a short collectivo bus ride to akumal bay where we snorkeled to see the turtles. They are there year round and are spectacular. the so-so: -The house wine provided was lame. They were constantly trying to get you to buy an upgraded decent bottle of wine at inflated prices. I am not a wine snob. We took a collectivo bus about 10 minutes north of the resort to the chedraui (walmart type store) and got great argentinian wine for under 10$ a bottle. We drank that instead. -A lot of walking. I don't mind walking, good for neutralizing the large dinners, but if you were going for dinner or entertainment on the far side of the complex, it is at least a 20 minute walk. OK in February, but I would expect to be sweat soaked if I tried the same walks to dinner in May-Sept. They do have shuttles, but they don't run quite as frequently as I'd like, and are not door to door. It would still require at least 10 minutes of walking plus 15+ minutes waiting for the shuttle. Just not the relaxing experience you would hope for. We mostly ate at the restaurants convenient to our area of the resort, which limited us somewhat. If you have serious walking issues(we did see 2 people in wheelchairs, and some with recent injuries requiring crutches), you would be advised to choose a smaller resort. -Except for the japanese restaurant and the seafood restaurant, there are no reservations. That can be a good thing if the resort is not crowded, but February is peak season. If you got to your restaurant at 730, it might be 1 1/2 hour wait for dinner, or even no more available seats at some restaurants. We ate earlier, 6ish, usually no significant wait for a table at that hour. In general , though the restaurants were mediocre. We ate at italian, steak house, mexican and japanese. Would only recommend the japanese tepanaki. -No outdoor hot tubs? at a beach resort? Unless you would pay $10 per person per day to use the spa facilities. -No room service. I know this is not a deal breaker, but just not as nice as other resorts with room service. -No waitress service on the beach. Again, not a deal breaker, just not as nice as some other resorts.

Mixed Feelings

The Grounds are absolutely beautiful. Plenty of seating in sun or shade at both pools and beach. The a la carte restaurants are plentiful, but I really think the food is not much better than what is offered at the buffets. We were a bit dismayed to find the wooden walkways throughout the resort in much disrepair. Many side rails on the elevated paths replaced with caution tape instead of actual rails. This was our second trip to Grand Palladium and overall very enjoyable.

Awesome family vacation

First time at this resort and it will probably not be the last one. The gorunds are really well kept with plenty of green areas to preserve the local flora and fauna. The resort has an awesome stretch of white sandy beach with nearby coral reefs for an awesome snorkel experience. The a la carte restaurants were very good and the buffets had good foods for any taste. The night shows were a hit and miss for my taste but a few of them were worthy of a cheerful ovation from the audience. The location was ideal to visit the local ecological parks and archeological sites ( Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Xplor and Chchen Itza are a must along with at least 1 cenote) All employees were corteous and friendly and eager to help and or make suggestions when looking for a good site to visit. The only negative that I can think of is that the resort does not provide smoking only areas to minimize or eliminate exposure to second hand smoke. As a parent traveling with young children this is very important to me and we found ourselves leaving certain venues or areas because of the smell of cigar. I really hope that the company looks and evaluates this scenario as I am sure that it would deter families from coming back.

Must visit Xcaret, Xel-ha, Xplor, Chichen Itza and a cenote (Ik Kil is a very popular one but there are plenty within a short driving distance). For shopping, go to the 5th avenida in Playa del Carmen (40 min drive from resort and well worth it)

4th time back!-Just love this place!

Check in service was quick and fast. Very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Luggage was moved and set up promptly. Room: The king size bed was very firm and comfortable. Jetted tub in the bath and everything was clean. All the rooms have just been updated so everything is new and nice. Food:Love the restaurants and the variety. Food and service was just excellent. I'm also smart enough to know that in a foreign country I'm not going to expect pork ribs to be made like I'd get in Chicago. But their interpretation was just fine. (but hey, if you want a rib recipe Palladium, just let me know) Steaks were just fantastic I really wouldn't put Mexican fare coupled with 'gourmet' usually, but they managed to do it in their "Mexican Restaurant"-La Adelita! The soups in the restaurants are divine as well. The buffets are huge and even though each night there are 'themes' there is always a bit of everything. I found the food to be the right temperature as well. The breakfasts are magnificent. Panini stations, omelette bar, smoothie bar, and such a variety and freshness of breads and pastries. Mimosas each morning too. I also appreciated a high level of food quality and the beach side snack bar. Pools: The size of a lake, very clean too. Areas for kids, areas if you want to be left alone, areas to have fun with the entertainment staff. Spa: Seems seldom mentioned, but I just love the spa. Especially when you run into a cloudy day or part of the day. Great facility with most free areas: Infinity pool, lazy river, jacuzzi, warm waterfalls to stand under, sauna, steam room, and hydrom massage. Very relaxing and should not be overlooked. Beach: Being here last time I was in the "White Sands" section and stayed primarily toward one end of the beach, which is unbelievable. Being now at the other end, I was equally blown away. The far left (as you look at the ocean) of the beach seems a bit calmer and you can walk out a good 70 yards on clean sand in 3 ft. water. Bars and Entertainment: Bars a plenty including a sports bar. We took in a show now and then but mostly enjoyed our evenings listening to the live music near on of the lobbys. The Hemingway bar has live piano music, a great bar, and superb little desserts in a case to snag when you want. Sure there is a disco which opens late but it would be nice to have an area to slow dance with live music. But this seems to be something lacking with many resorts so my observation is not slighted really toward the Palladium. The grounds: Kept immaculate. Well situated near the beach but yet, very lush with lots of magroves and deep foliage. Plenty of wildlife. Covered thatch walkways keep you dry if you get caught in a shower and are easy to navigate to wherever you are going. Service and Management: Service from room attendants to bartenders, to servers, to management was always high level. I never experienced rudeness or aloofness. Overall, I must express that this hotel also has a very high consciousness toward being eco-friendly and utilizing conservation ideals in their operations. A must try and can't wait to return.
