One of 24 five-star beach resorts operated by Grupo Pinero's Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, the Grand Bahia Principe Riviera Maya affords adventurers easy access to a number of ancient Mayan pyramids and coastal, walled fortresses. This complex contains three individual resorts named after regional settlements, each of which is geared toward different kinds of travelers. As a result, it's relatively easy to book a business, adults-only, or family vacation in a villa surrounded by lush tropical palms. Simply wandering around this resort in the Mexican heat is a great way to stumble across inviting pools, cool bars and fascinating shops.
Key facts
  • Rooms by complex: Tulum - 858; Coba - 1,080; Akumal - 630
  • 11 international restaurants
  • 18 bars
  • 7 pools, including lazy river and lakes
  • Concierge service available
  • Wi-Fi (fees may apply)
Neighborhood
In the surrounding area, guests will discover hidden cenotes, water-filled caves that invite serious scuba divers and casual snorkelers alike, and parks like Xcaret, that give you a chance to enjoy the clear currents of a calm lagoon in a more naturalistic setting than found at any waterpark. Nearby Chichen Itza is a World Heritage Site, which includes The Castle, the Pyramid of Kukulcan and Juego de Pelota. The Sacred Cenote is a spot where the Mayans apparently made human sacrifices, and should not be missed by lovers of history, macabre and otherwise.
Hints and tips
Enjoy a quieter stay in this large complex by staying in a room further away from the central areas, or on the side of a villa opposite the nearest pool.

If you find yourself tired or lost from walking around after a long day, locate one of the many shuttle stops scattered throughout the resort, and wait for about five minutes to get a free ride.

This is not a comprehensive list of fees. Any amounts listed above may not include taxes and are subject to change.

Everything and more we ever wanted!!

This complex offers the choice of three resorts wrapped up into one! What one didn't offer the other ones did. When we finally arrived to the Hotel the main lobby was full of suit cases and people were checking out new it would be a long while before getting to our room but when asked by the bellman what travel group we said and they took us to a Premier Lobby which was a faster check in! Thanks for making us a premier travel group! Your awesome. Bonnie Erskine

Very child friendly. Loved all children's pools. Food is delicious. Depending on how many days determines how many reservations you can make but you do get to pick from any of the restraunts.

Lots of beautiful excursions nearby!

WONDERFUL resort. Great all-inclusive amenities, couldnt ask for more! Bars, food and spa pluses! Wonderful excursions and short trips nearby this resort. Great place to stay to get a good taste of the Mexican Riviera. Cab to Telum and Akamul beaches, they are beautiful (swim with the sea turtles), go shop local at Playa de Carmen or take the ferry to Cozumel. Definitely try and visit COBA and ChichenItza Mayan ruins.

Excellent Resort

This was a fabulous resort very tropical, clean, friendly staff, buffets were overwelming with so many choices, and the gourmet (allow 3 per week) were excellent, entertainment was great show every night . Only complaint is not enough chairs by the pool have to get up early and save if you want a chair which is unfair there are plenty of chairs on the beach but there are only a few place to swim as very rocky. But overall great place and would god back!!

Wonderful All Inclusive resort

We had an excellent stay at the Gran Bahia. Although we were not right on the beach, we always found a chair on the beach if wanted. The only down side was a lack of chairs at the pools. People were always searching for them. We were plenty spread out, and more chairs could have easily been accomodated. That said, the buffet was better than others I have been at. They had many specialty restaurants - we ate at The Gourmet (excellent), Portofino and Pescador - these last two were good - not excellent. We were treated well everywhere we went and would go back again. The extra foam cushion on the bed was wonderful! Loved the lush - ecology - reserve feel to the resort. Unfortunately we were there too early to see the turtles...

Great couples vacation

Bahia Principe (Tulum) was awesome. I've been on many all-inclusives before and this one was truly up there. The Tulum side of the resort is great and very quiet. We upgraded to the Diamond package but we probably didn't have to - all you get is a private pool which we did use a few times to escape the crowded main pool and an extra dinner reservation. I was surprised that your a la carte dinner reservations were limited to 2-3 per stay. Every other resort provided the option to eat a la carte every night. The beach and location were gorgeous and the rooms were super clean. Be sure to tip even though the websites say tips included. It's customary in Mexico and super apprecited - you will get amazing service by name, etc. if you do. Look for Omar at the bar! He hooked us up nice!

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

There is a place called "Hacienda" that has TONS of little shops. They all seem the same from the outside but are fun to look around in and you can get some good deals. I had no idea this was on site before I got there and I did some research. Nice surprise!!!

Nice resort

Over all experience was great, just a few minor details that we thought the resort should consider changing: 1.Not enough waitresses walking the lobby or around the pool areas: 2. Not enough lounge chairs around the pool and beach areas: 3. The resort should have a better selection of coffee for the guests, most people drink coffee and we found it difficult to find a coffee in the mornings, they do have a table set up in each lobby but most of the time the coffee urn was empty. 4. food was good but like most resorts with buffets the food starts to taste the same after 3-4 days. Now here are some of the excellent details of the resort. excellent entertainment crew, brazillian resaurant was awesome, excellent beach area and very nice pools, very clean resort, we would definately return.
