For the five stars hotel, bed mattress and linen were horrible, food in restaurants are very disappointing as well.Furniture in honeymoon suit was old and cracked However staff is absolutely incredible, friendly and helpful. Locatio, pool and the beach are absolutely great as well

They know how to impress. It is well run and it shows. Great service, great food, beautiful facility. Not sure what else I would ask for!

Everything about this hotel was great. The only possible exception was that there could have been more chef specials at the restaurants as we got a little bored with the food. Have nothing really to complain about. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. The beach was the best in that area and wonderfully maintained. The spa was FANTASTIC!!

Many issues with the staff at departure time. Charged for more than they were supposed to.

Tons of staff to help out with ever little thing. Good, good food. Every staff person you meet is accomodating. This is a great place to stay.

If you want peace and quiet, this is the place. However, it was too quiet for us. The majority of the people were senior citizens ( we are in the our 30's). Due to the location of the resort, getting to the local town for shopping and eating was quite a distance. Entertainment was similar to what you see on a cruise. Staff was very nice and accomadating. The main issue we have with the resort is that the pools close very early.

This was our 3rd year at this hotel. Experience was good but the hotel and staff has gone down hill over the past 3 yrs.

We had a wonderful experience at the Excellence. We were referred to it by friends who were very pleased with their stay as well. The spacious resort is beautiful with room to relax on the lazy river or socialize at the swim-up bar depending on your mood. Staff was wonderful as were all of the restaurants and bars. The only problem we had was they gave us a 2 queen room when we reserved a king.

Very positive all-inclusive experience. Excellent variety of foods and drinks at the resort. They do a good job of providing entertainment and things to do throughout the day and night. A 15-20 minute cab ride from either Playa del Carmen or Cancun will cost you about $30-40 U.S. each way, so if you plan on visiting these cities be prepared.

This hotel was wonderful, and let me say that before I get into any nit picky things in my review - the hotel was great and I would definitely return. That being said I'll go into my experience at the hotel. I felt very safe from the moment I arrived - gated hotel, they were expecting us, had our names down, took down our information. Safety would definitely get 5 stars here. The resort is beautiful. We got one of the swim up rooms - it was amazing! Huge shower, huge jetted tub inside, jetted tub outside and a hammock and pool view. The cons of the room: Well, first, like I've read in other reviews, we reserved a room with a king size bed but when we got there we were told there were only rooms with two queen beds available and that we would be called in a day or two to switch into a room with a king size bed - that never happened. The beds were very stiff and uncomfortable. Outside - the hammock in our room (and most rooms with hammocks save the excellence rooms with partial ocean views) do not have the type of hammocks pictured on the advertisement - they're not the nice big cloth hammocks pictured, they're the mesh hammocks that you have to sort of unroll to get into. No biggie, just not what I was expecting. There was also a lot of ground staff outside of our room during the day cleaning and cutting tress and stuff - not a single one of them ever took their eyes off of their work or even looked toward any of the rooms, but they were around pretty often. The staff was all remarkable - everyone was so friendly and eager to please. The food was great! We ate at Spice, the italian restaurant and the indian restaurant - all were great. Now, my complaint here, which is probably my biggest complaint is how they boast "no reservation needed at any restaurant" - what they should REALLY say is "no reservation needed at any restaurant before 7pm (even that might be a little on the late side" - on the first night we walked right into Spice around 6:30 and sat right down. The third night we wanted to have dinner with 2 friends (so dinner for 4) and we headed out to the indian restaurant around 8 pm - they told us it was a 2 hour wait (the restaurant closes at 10!) - so we went around to each other restaurant - the shortest wait was 1.5 hours. I don't know if it was because it was a weekend or what, but I was particularly annoyed that no one will take reservations and that if you want to eat any time after the restaurants immediately open the wait can be insane. But again, the food was great, I just recommend eating early or don't be too hungry and grab a drink or two while you wait for your pager to go off. They do a Hibachi style dinner at Spice - that you have to make reservations for day of - that I highly recommend - it was the best meal we had there, and the chef was amazing! The beach was wonderful - great sand and the little beach huts and beach chairs were nice. Again, though, for the first few days of our trip you couldn't find a spot on the beach after 8 am. During the last few days of our trip - the beach was pretty full around 9 or so but there were spots here and there. All in all it was a wonderfully relaxing trip. The staff was excellent and I am pleased with my experience. I highly recommend this resort, just anticipate the little annoyances we had and your trip should be perfect!
