perfect vacation

if you stay at the superior beach front rooms-that's, probably, one of the best properties on the beach. The second floor rooms with the third floor private sunroof- can't beat that! This portion of the hotel is new, and except for 1or 2 extra shelves in the bathroom, I would not add anything else. The breakfast is great. The lunch and dinner is on the pricey side. The staff are great. It's a great location along the great, not crowded, beach-not too close to the main strip, but not too far either. Free bikes, if they are available at the time, are the great mode of transportation. If have a chance, bike further south to the Natural Reserve(20 min South). This is the real pristine beach-free of any rocks/or reefs/no people at all. Would recommend that to my friends in a heartbeat.

The huge, WallMart type Supermarket is past(1km) the Adonis Tulum, on the road to Tulum. They sell the wine there, too!

had a great week

This is our first time in Mexico and we loved all of it. Really nice beach, hotel and staff - wouldn't have changed a thing. We liked the low key, no high rise natural place. We rented a car and ate meals in Tulum and on the beach, visited ruins, snorkeled at Half Moon Bay and Akumal. We visited Sian Kan Nature reserve too. Not a good hotel for children.

Tulum, Not cheap

the hostel and customer support was good, the beach is really beautiful, but vacations around Cancun, and Tulum especially is really expensive : restaurant/bar prices are like Manhattan prices.

Great staff, wonderful location!

I struggled to find a way to express my disappointment at the fact that the new Beach front Deluxe room that I had booked wasn't finished when I arrived, while also conveying my belief in Cabañas' potential and my appreciation of the staff for making my abbreviated stay as nice as possible. Here goes... Although their Web site suggested that the new Beach front Deluxe rooms would be ready for occupancy, the units were still under construction when I arrived (and still lacked A/C as of 7/30/2011). This was obviously a disappointment, and it irreparably marred my vacation. However, they moved me to their sister hotel in Playa del Carmen, La Tortuga, and this move combined with the hospitality and professionalism of the staff almost made up for the inconvenience. The location of Cabanas Tulum is nothing short of beautiful, and the staff is first rate. And if the couple of days that I spent with you in my nearly complete room before moving to Playa are any indication, future visitors are in for a magical stay.

Cabanas Tulum

There is so much to do from this property. Ruins, Diving, Kite Boarding, Cenotes the list goes on. But, what we came for as we do every year is the shear beauty of the endless beach - The water - Azul Blue, the powder sugar sand, the hospitality of the people there along with the great food and service.

If you want the freedom to move about at your own pace - Rent a Car. Taxi's will suck you dry. From the Airport it's about a 120.00 one way taxi or shuttle. I would think there are better shuttle options but not interested in being landlocked once we got to our hotel. Taxi's are about 6.00 each time when tip is included depending on how far you go. We have been traveling to this area for 15 years and have been renting a car. The roads are excellent and the driving is safe. Rental car gives you the freedom you'll appreciate as you plan what you want to do and see. We rent through Payless. Do not buy insurance until you get to there. They have a package deal. We rented a car for 18 days and it only cost us 480. That's 30.00 a day. A couple taxi cab rides and your there.

Good people,hard beds

The hotel staff was amazing-provided us with a wealth of information regarding activities and anything else we needed, even set us up with trips and taxis if we requested. We spent a lot of time on their bikes-which need improvement but got us to our destination- and explored the town of Tulum, the ruins and the beautiful seashore. The rooms introduced us to an entire week without TV and though bare, were clean and private-even though we were in the second row on the second floor the stairway led only to our room. There was a hammock on the front porch as well as two lounge chairs. The weather was perfect and we couldn't have asked for a better time. We are already planning to go back in August!

Cabana Tululm - True Paradise!

Greeted "Welcome Home" and it was. Every staff member was as friendly as any family member would be. We were there March 12-19, 2011. Many changes have taken place: fresh paint, closet, walkway to bar and eating area, new tables in both areas. Toured the area with the help of [...], front desk, speaking perfect English. We went in to the town of Tulum and had no problems with communication or safety. (walked one end to the other) Did rent a car, but that was not necessary as there are taxis everywhere. Yes, we will return - March 2012!![...] and the cleaning staff all were excellent and most helpful and friendly. ATM is in the small shopping area near the Cabanas. Do not use USD and credit cards are not used often.

Dining in the Bistro is wonderful - great food and staff. However, there are eating places within walking distance. Breakfast is included in the room price - excellent and not just coffee and rolls!

Cabanas Tulum

This is a great place! So clean and tidy, if that is your priority. As others have reported, the staff is extremely accommodating. I have never been quizzed so thoroughly at the end of a stay about how our stay could have been better. Some recent reviewers have complained about the construction, but it didn't bother us. The owners have taken great effort to shield it from view. And it will all be over in short order. The food at the restaurant is good, but not the best we had in Tulum or nearby. No one can compete with the "pescado al ajo" we had at Cuzan in Punta Allen. We ended up here on short notice because it was the highest ranking motel/hotel in Tulum where we could make reservations on the internet for one night. That sort of convenience is important to me.

Wonderful Getaway

Our stay at Cabanas Tulum was wonderful. The rooms were very clean, the food was delicious and the staff was very friendly and helpful. There was construction going on but we got used to the noise. Hopefully it will be completed when we go next time.

We took the bus from Cancun to Tulum which was about $6.00 per person compared to $100 in the van from the airport. If you have extra time, it is worth taking the bus-very comfortable and we felt very safe.
