The Barcelo Riviera Maya is situated on the best beach of the Mexico Caribbean. The resort includes four hotels - Barcelo Maya Beach, Barcelo Maya Caribe, Barcelo Maya Colonial, Barcelo Maya Tropical. Cheap tickets sold me a package for 4 days in a great hotel but in a lower category for room/service and amenities. we feel $ 4,745.84 will place us at the maya tropical or maya colonial area but instead we were sent to the lowest Maya beach. tried to buy upgrade at hotel but was full, stayed at maya caribe in a small room and we did not have access to the ameneties and restaurnats in the maya colonoial or maya tripical. you people need to do a better job explaining the difference on all these choises. we were very disapointed when we could not even get a drink or eat in the other bars without having to pay for it. this was afterall an all inclusive package.

We thoroughly enjoyed this resort. It exceeded our expectations as we had heard mixed reviews about all-inclusive resorts. The variety of restaurants, food offerings and drink quality were excellent. The staff was very attentive and made sure you were looked after very well. Beautiful surroundings too. Make sure to get the Club level for all the upgrades; it is well worth the extra money. We will definitely go back.

Hmmm
The servers, cleaners and support staff were excellent. Promises were made and later broken by the staff manning the front desk and the concierge. We will probably not return to this hotel.

Total Relaxation
Once checked into the room, the comfort and pampering begins. Good food, beautiful layout, friendly staff. Very nice and relaxing. Very international, which makes it part of the beauty, from the people to hearing various languages spoken, experienceing different cultures. Very enjoyable, educational and fun.

If you do plan to visit other spots in the area of Maya, it's best to rent a car. It's not too much, and it's convenient to move around to and from the airport, into Playa, and Tulum. You have much freedom that way.

Tried to upgrade, but at $160 per night not worth it.Breakfast buffet was good. Service at front desk was average at best at the Beach. Much better at the Caribe.Second time at the Barcelo and was disappointed this time.Beach is still awesome with good snorkelling, lots of fish and sea turtles.Room was average but clean and maid service was very good.

Stay at Barcelo'
We really enjoyed the stay and the staff at the buffet each meal was very friendly and took great care of us. Room was great and thanks for getting us a king sized bed!

lots of things to do, although we didn't take kids this trip and our first to mexico, the hotel was a great kid friendly place and looking forward to bringing our 3 teenagers back

Great Hotel
Stayed 10 nights at the Barcelo Maya Cribe. Resort is HUGE and staff was very friendly. Had a room with King bed and it was very comfortable unlike many Mexican hotel beds. Its seems Nov. is a great time to visit and hotel was only 50% full so had no problem finding place to lay near the pool or on the beach.Dinner and breakfast buffets were very good at the Caribe. Lunch at Capt. Morgans was not so great so we went to the Palmeras Grill at the Tropical beach hotel complex and it was much better food and selection. Resort is large and you have 2 theatres for the nightly shows to chose from.

In Hotel
Hotel has its own shopping mall but prices are about 40% higher than shops in Playa. Go out to highway and take a Collectivo (25 pesos) to downtown Playa. Last Collectivo stop is 2 blocks from the famous 5th Ave. shopping plaza in Playa.

Worst thing was the pillows or the lack there of. Sometimes it was impossible to get a drink at the pool bar of the Tropical. Also need rocks removed at the Tropical beach making it almost impossible to get into the ocean. Best thing was the kind staff, great food, and beautiful grounds.
