The service was slow and poor. The food was cold at every sit down meal. Reservations were required to not eat at a buffett restaurant and were difficult to get at decent times. The beds were like sleeping on concrete and who ever told them the beds were queen beds were clearly mistaken. Slightly larger than a twin...slightly. There "top shelf" vodka was Absolut or Stoli.

Front Desk Staffs are inexperienced and takes 30 mininutes to check out.

dining is best at the palace, bars are similar at all, pools and people are more fun at colonial or tropical - unless you prefer quiet/ elderly/ sedate. Kids pool is a bit better at the Tropical for kids over 8 - bigger water slides. Snorkeling is best at the place end of the beach. Taxi to Playa del carmen for 5 is about $25 US each way - public bus is $3 pp each way. "top shelf" booze really is top shelf! Bring a Jed Clampett size wad of $1's to tip with - it is greatly appreciated and deserved by the staff.

Superb resort; we decided to pay the extra price for the Palace location, as there are four different resorts on the same property. It was certainly worth it! All of the pools on the entire resort are very spacious, including a large water park for children. We were able to snorkel right off the beach, and saw sea turtles, eels, lion fish, etc. The buffets offered a very wide variety of foods, meeting the needs of our very picky family.

My wife and I recently took our first trip to Mexico and stayed at the Barcelo Maya Palace. Staying at the Palace gives you access to all the resorts (there's 4 I think on the compound). While we visited the beach at all of them we never ventured into any of the other buffets or restaurants. It seems like you could stay anywhere on the compound and enjoy the beautiful pools and beaches. The staff was great and buffets were good. We ate at the Brasserie one night, but honestly I enjoyed the buffet more. The food was decent in the restaurant but we had more fun with the flexibility of eating what we wants and not committing to a long dinner. Beach was great for snorkeling and had some good swim spots. Not the best beach and not the worst. Something for everyone. We stayed in a suite overlooking the ocean. Amazing views and great room. Bar was stocked daily and staff was very attentive. If you have the option, get the Premium Club package. It gets you some extra perks like free room service and express checkin/out. It helped out a couple times.

Clean rooms, nice comfortable bed, no bar on the beach, drinks were okay, bartenders not that friendly, pools are amazing, food was top notch. If you can't walk a lot I don't recommend it.

Beautiful resort, was perfect for a family vacation. The food,rooms,and service was top notch. The beach which was over a mile long was fantastic with soft white sand and Palm trees, and of course the water was spectacular. Great snorkeling right off the beach on the reefs, with plenty of colorful fishes and turtles. Make sure you take out a sailboat for a refreshing ride and see the resort from a different perspective.

This resort is paradise, the accommodations are clean, comfortable, and top-nocht, the beach is great for snorkeling, right at the shore, the food is good with a variety for all tastes, the best part was the entretaiment they are outstanding, our kids were never bored, they was always something for them to do, games, competitions, cooking lessons, and tours. the staff is accommodating and friendly, we are going coming back!!!!!Big time.....
