Not bad, Could be better

Had a suite at a great price. Probably the nicest room I have stayed in. 2 Bathrooms, jacuzzi, huge balcony. The Staff is so-so, depending on who you get. Only having 2 restaurants make the dining options limited. Nowhere to go to get something quick. Also nothing to do in the evenings other than the lounge/bar.

annual couples get away

The hotel in its self was very nice but we were there for 8 days and the menu for food remained the same. there was an Italian resturant on premise which we did for 2 nights, but left the premise 4 nights because not much variety in food. My opinion is when you go all inclusive you should want to stay on premise and enjoy. Any they had NO night activity, even when the outside resturant closed (10PM) no one was at inside bar nor most of the time did it even have a bartender. Would not go back and wouldn't recommend if you go for Fun and not just relaxation.

Time-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

The Time Share body snatchers are everywhere expecially down on the board walk or flea market. If they are smooth talkers or try to relate to you in any way they will try to talk you into a time share visit. 90 min. turned into 5 hrs. Just say no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Superb resort experience

From the minute we arrived at Sunset Plaza to the day we left, we had a fantastic time. The suite was amazing, with a glorious ocean view and crashing waves you could hear all night from the 11th floor. The staff was incredibly helpful (with the exception of a persuasive timeshare/points sales attempt), the food and drinks were excellent (an a la carte menu that changed every other day) and the other guests were very friendly. The spa seemed over-priced and the Italian restaurant (as remarked upon in other reviews) didn't have very good food -- burnt bread, salty pesto sauce, bland pasta dishes -- but those were the only downsides to a wonderfully relaxing vacation. If you can get a good deal on the all-inclusive and upgrade to a suite, this is a place that is hard to beat.

We had a very relaxing stay at the Sunset Plaza Beach Resort

Rooms were fabulous (we had the 1 bedroom suite). Deck and view were amazing. The staff were attentive and very nice. Food in restaurants was good. Mostly ate at Mirador, the only restaurant open for breakfast and lunch. The Italian restaurant is only open every other night. Bar was pretty quiet when we were there so it was very quiet after dinner and not much to do unless you left the property.

Winter get away

We recently returned from 8 nights at the Sunset Plaza, we've been to different locations in Mexico over the last 20 yrs. This was our best all-inclusive hotel stay. No buffets, just nice offerings off a menu. We really had no reason to go into town but we did once and we walked both ways a total of about 4 miles. First, remember this is a new hotel (really brand new), the level of finish was outstanding from our spacious one bedroom suite to the bathrooms pool side. However, you will be approached to take the "vacation club" tour. They are trying to sell theses units and I would imagine that is why the price is so reasonable. We declined to take the tour. Only 200 rooms and except for the weekend it never felt crowded. Although we had a butler, we never used him because we couldn't figure out wat he was supposed to do Staff attentive and all spoke english very well. Yep, this is a keeper.

Pretty close to perfect

Incredible rooms! We had a one bedroom and it was absolutely huge with a beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean. We have been to Puerto Vallarta many times and you don't always get what you book. This hotel has ONLY ocean views! It is new and spotless. Even though we like to go out to dinner most nights, the all-inclusive was well worth it. Food was in abundance and delicious and the drinks were actually good, using good quality liquor. The waitstaff is SO nice( Gustavo and Alfredo) and Diego takes good care of anything you need at the pool. The butler concept is new to me, and worked pretty well. Ivan works very hard, as does Franco and they truly aim t please. Only one request that we made and tipped for in advance to a DIFFERENT butler was not met, (4 days in a row). Also there is really only one restaurant. There is an upscale restaurant that they told us was open only 3 days a week. We made reservations, were warned not to be late because wwere a big group, and when we got there, we opened the door and there were no tables, only someone mopping the floor. He directed us to the everyday restaurant where they tried to tell us that the menu for the night was INTERNATIONAL fish and shrimp. It looked exactly the same to us! The other thing is you can order the same thing days in a row and it will be different each time. Sometimes the chicken came on a burger bun, sometimes it had cheese on it, sometimes it was on white toast. Kept things interesting, at least! The beaches here are not as nice in Nuevo, but it is a trade off for being closer to downtown. You can actually walk there. THey also had complimentary kayaks you could use which were fun, and great massages. All in all, we really did enjoy our stay, and we plan to return for sure!

clean, friendly

nice place... excellent service from staff. good liquor included in the inclusive package (enjoyed lots of don julio margaritas). beach isn't great for kids--steep & waves break right at the waterline, so nowhere for the little one to wade. restaurant menu/variety not great, especially for vegetarians, but staff accommodated special requests pretty well.
