Accurate Reviews

Let me start by saying that I booked this hotel [...] one day in advance of going to PVR. When we arrived at the hotel they had our reservation and everything was correct (# of people / price / # of nights). Here are the good points: - Affordable - Location was great - Staff was friendly - WiFi worked well - Pools were nice - Beach was great - Room was VERY clean - No bugs - Great water pressure - Hot/cold water - Clean towels and sheets daily - Good TV/CableOn the flip side, the room: - Was very small - Had a very hard mattress - Had a very bad smell to it(smelled like it had been closed up for months / mold or mildew smell) - Had a bad a/c - it did not work - Reported the a/c to the front desk / maintenance man arrived within an hour and confirmed it was not working / said he would "check" something in the control room - never came back - a/c never workedAll of the reviews [...] were very accurate .... if you are looking for a budget hotel with a nice pool, hot tub, on the beach, this is an okay hotel.

They could use a much better cleaning ..

Our overall stay at the Playa Los Arcos was good in most areas. The service and beach area was excellent. The drink prices were a little on the spendy side except during happy hour. The check in and out went fairly smooth. We didn't get the room we had booked the first day, but we moved to a better room on day two. This room was nice, but the bed was as hard as a rock. The bed spread was filthy and looked like somebody had used it to change oil on. I don't think the maids sweep before they mop the tile floor because there is alot of dirt in the nooks and crannys when they are done. Overall I would rate our stay a three on a five scale and probably look elsewhere next time. It was also pretty noisy until about 2 a.m. on most nights. We would stay here again, but use it as our second or third option.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Definitely take a walk on the Malecon[a paved wide walkway along the ocean]. There are alot of cheap bars and restaurants along the way and the views are beautiful. We saw whales and dolphins a couple of different times while we were sipping on a couple of cold ones. There is probably something for everyone along the way.

Very, very low water pressure

I don't understand people who go through the trouble and expense of traveling to a foreign country, book an expensive, plush hotel only to relax at the hotel. You might as well stay home and lounge in the back yard! My friends, it's all about location, location, location when it comes to a hotel. Can you explore the area? Walk to dinner? Walk to the stores and drop off your purchases at the hotel room? Los Arcos is the perfect hotel regarding location. Out the back door and you are on a bright sunny beach looking at the Pacific (OK, the bay). Out the front door and you are in the "Old Town" part of the city complete with cobblestone streets. A+ on location! Still, you do expect some basics in the hotel. Like a working shower. And this is where Los Arcos comes up short. Stay away from room 427. The shower went between a mist and literally NO water at all. I stayed in this room for the first 5 days of my 11 day trip. My fault, I know, but moving rooms requires repacking and is a pain. Twice, the water STOPPED while I was lathered up. My second room had a balcony and consistent water, though again the pressure was more of a mist than a shower. There is no internet access in the rooms - and no three-prong outlets so bring an adapter. While the building is showing signs of age, the staff is extremely friendly. Their customer service reminds me of much more expensive hotels. There is nightly entertainment in the restaurant. The restaurant in the hotel is pretty expensive so you will want to explore the local eateries. The best food in town is at Cafe de Olla around the corner from the hotel. Order the Mexican Platter. A budget-priced place with a wait of up to an hour at peak times. I would gladly pay double price for the scrumptious meal but don't tell them I said that! The hotel is in an excellent location and would get 5 stars if they solve their plumbing problems.

Great time!

We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights and had a fantastic time. The facility was well maintained and clean and had a real charm. The location was the best and the staff were very accomodating. We had no problems with noise except for Saturday night when a parade started right outside the hotel. We made the most of the situtation by joining in the festivities. The location was so great that we took most of our meals and a good bit our our entertainment within a 4 block rdius of the hotel. We only ventured out for special tours. We would definitely recommend the Valartra Adventures Group for the Canopy tours and Whale Watching. Also see Yalapa while there. We wish we had been abe to spend more time there.

Great Stay

We enjoyed Playa Los Arcos. It was exactly what we were after. The beach was great and there was never a problem getting a chair. The staff were attentive and helpful and the room was fine. It's not a 5 star but comfortable, clean and in a perfect location to everything downtown.

The Suites are quieter

This was our third stay at Playa Los Arcos Hotels. We decided to try the main hotel this time and had to move to the Suites around the corner. The first room they moved us to had a sewer pipe (enclosed in the wall) next to the bed and was unappealing with every flush. So we requested another move which turned out great. They were great working with us and more than willing to move us until we were happy. The main hotel is great for kids and those who like more activity and action. The Suites where we will always stay from now on was quiet and fitted our needs much better.

Great location some quirks great price.

Since we pay the lowest possible price, our windows faced VERY noisy street. We could have asked for an upgrade but we didn't, we used the earplugs instead. Shower pressure was a joke so I removed the shower head and we were just fine. These were only 2 quirks we encountered. Otherwise the room was clean, plenty of towels, very nice staff, perfect location in downtown in walking distance to unbeatable restaurants, right on a beach, beautiful swimming pool... I would definitely stay in the hotel again. Next time, however, I will pay extra to face either the pool area or the ocean.

This is an old hotel keep that in mind..

Make sure your room is not located in the front of hotel. These has to be the bottom end. Get room on the side. Can't speak for the other rooms but they have to be better than 128. My window would not close all the why so more noise is allow in. I reported to front desk but problem was not resolved. Also you can hear people in ajoining room talk etc. Bottle water is furnish but cost 90 peso's. Maid sevice was very good. The good thing about the hotel is that its on beach and you have half mile of beach you can walk. Alos,EVERYTHING is in walking distance, bus stop 4 blocks from motel. When shopping for jewellery check several store on pieces you like to get an ideal for what it cost. Then you can barter a price. I found the same exact thing at the beach peddler for 6 dollars cheaper then at the store down down. I also found Poo's Barbara jewellery store on Juarez 270-1 street gave the best deal. Nice old guy who still uses the old scale to weigh.
