Got a little better each day

First things first, this resort appeared to be an older one. The basic rooms are not at all like the pictures until you upgrade to the "M-experience" rooms... which are still not up to par with the other more modern, updated resorts in the Melia chain. When we arrived we waited about 2 hrs for our room to be ready. After it finally was ready, the room was still dirty, there were 2 double beds (we booked a king), and all that remained in our "all inclusive" fridge was 2 half empty water bottles. Not to mention, the beds were unmade and the mattresses and pillows were as hard as a rock. After speaking to a manager about our poor accommodations, we were able to later move into another room with double beds, this one clean, and then, 3 days later, a 3rd room with a king bed (thanks to Alejandra). Despite the upgrades, the shower in each room never reached a temperature above luke warm. The food @ this resort was just so-so, and the all inclusive restaurants were always booked. My advice would be to book all your reservations on the first day of your stay. The resort's section of the beach is very small and a bit rocky. The pool was nice, but is very family friendly with lots of kids. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, this resort not the place. The worst part of our trip was that the staff continued to bug us every day to attend their timeshare presentation. They even went so far as to falsely accuse us of cheating on them by attending a presentation @ another resort when we left for the day. We literally felt like we had to sneak back into the hotel each time we returned from taking a day trip. Overall, our stay got a little better each day as we found things to do outside the resort.

The riverwalk (old town puerto vallarta) is about a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the hotel. There you will find shopping, entertainment, great restaurants, nightclubs and a beautiful ocean view lined with cobblestone streets. We recommend dining @ The Blue Shrimp (just over the bridge). It was delicious and well worth the walk!!

LOTS OF CHANGES, none for betterment of the guests.

We have been at Melias, three times, and our last, on October 11, 2012, was by far, the more disappointing. And it has noting to do, with most of the personnel. It is with the protocols that you have to follow. Rigth away, your vacation goes sour. They try to steer you to all kinds of sales, when all you want is have a good time, wich is why you came in the first place. They do not understand, when you tell them you are not interested in their offers, that all you want, is to be left alone to try to have a good time. We booked a seven nights all inclusive package, and it is the last time we will ever be there. No mas!!!!!!!!. We said good bye to some of the personnel the we have gotten to know over the times we have being there and we will miss them, but not the place. A recommendation for management, keep up with your changes, and lag behind the other hotels. YOUR CHANGES SUCK!!!!!!!!!!.

Needs help

We went with 6 other couples as a group we had fun but having to pay 4.00 a day for coffee was mindblowing since we were at an "all inclusive" and we're coffee drinkers..The rooms could be a little cooler, the air conditioning doesn't seem to want to cool the room down very much..There are no ceiling fans in the rooms, lobby bar or lobby to circulate the air and it was extremely hot & humid, espcially at night, the only relief was going back to your room for a little coolness, couln't enjoy the shows because they were outside under a giant hut, too hot & humid..the resort was nice, food not very good and the same most every day..Gabriale our favorite waitor in the morning & Rosey at the pool bar were AWESOME !!!!!!!..All the mixed drinks seemed to be very watered down, which is expected but these seemed to have no alcohol at all....Seemed to have a lot of local families stay which didn't matter to us just FYI..and there are alot of kids so this is not the place to go if you don't want to be around kids...A family staying there, would probably have a very enjoyable time.

Decent All Inclusive ..just don't be a Germ-A-phobe

The Melia is on the surface a beautiful property; and for the cost, a pretty good value. I would not recommend if you don't have kids- they have only one large pool that is just chalk full of kids most of the time. As for the rooms, I would have preferred them to be a bit cleaner- the maids missed some crucial messes that were left by the previous tennants. The food is decent- all you can eat- but don't expect anything above average. The Italian restaurant is probably the best, but requires a reservation. They keep your drinks full, whether it is beer (in a can) mixed drinks or some of the worst wine you have ever had- I personally recommend the Mojito's. Also- a word to the wise- the concierge will hit you up again and again to sit through thier 90 minute (time-share, Melia club) presentation. Also- be careful when arriving at the airport- many official looking people will offer to get you a taxi and will side wind you to a sales pitch on the different excursions available in Puerto Vallarta. Last word to the wise- if dining out in Puerto Vallarta and the concierge recommends a restaurant named Cilantro's, don't go- we went on the recommendation and it was the only place I used a certain Credit Card- the next day someone tried to use that credit card number to purchase $800.00 of goods at the local Costco.

Definately attend the comedy show that is offered in the evening. It was one of the highlights of the entertainment offered at the resort.

Melia

Great location for Puerto Vallarta!  Overall the hotel was okay -way too many kids and during August many locals vacation here.Food was good - not too many options though - one restaurant was open for dinner. Beach was non existant - so if you want beach - not a good choice. Pool was nice and drinks were top shelf - tasty!

Great Place For A Family On A Budget

So this was my 4th trip to Pto Vallarta, and the 2nd for my wife. This is now the 3rd Hotel I've been to, and the 2nd we've stayed at that was All-Inclusive (the other was Dreams). So this review comes from repeat travelers to this beautiful paradise: Melia is a hotel that is definitely family oriented. They do nightly shows for kids, have Flintstones characters that eat breakfast with them, play with them, etc... and a kids-specific zone so that parents can go play if they want to. I didn't bring my kids, but I'm sure that if I did, they would have had a good time. Unfortunately I wasn't able to eat at what looks to be the best dinner restaurant at Melia, as it was closed due to low-traveler-season. There were only 2 restaurants open for dinner every night. The Italian restaurant was good for the first 2-3 days, but quickly got old due to the very limited selection. The lunch and dinner buffets were hit and miss, depending on what you like, and again, there wasn't much variety from night to night, even though they change the "dinner themes" nightly. Overall the food quality was good, but very repetitious. We literally almost ate the same things every day. Melia is about 5 minutes from the airport or marina, and 15 minutes to town. It is convenient for trips to Wal-Mart, but the taxi fares to and from this hotel were outrageous! Compared to other times I've been in Vallarta, if I were to have taken a taxi each time on this trip, I would have spent at least double what I have at any point in the past. I don't know why this is, but we took the bus instead, as one runs in front of the hotel every 15 minutes, and costs about 50 cents US. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and our cleaning lady was wonderful, but we don't plan on returning to Melia, as we tend to like things a bit higher class. I've been to Dreams twice, and will return to Dreams again in the future, but I will say that for the money, you ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT beat the deal you get at Melia. For anyone, especially families on a budget, it's the best cheap place you can find in Vallarta.

We highly recommend Vallarta Adventures Outdoor Adventure for any traveler going to Vallarta. It is absolutely the best zip-line tour I've been on (tried 3 so far here alone), and offers so much more than that! Compared to what you get at other companies for $80 - $90, this $100 or so trip cannot be topped! They also do an excellent job (although pricey) at taking photographs for you to take home.

Melia

The hotel pool was very nice. We spent most of our time there. I was disappointed that 2 out of the 3 specialty restaurants were closed. We went to the Italian restaurant four times. The menu does not change, so it gets old. There are a lot of activities, but they are at very specific times. For example there is archery but only once a day either in the am or pm. It's not something that you can do at your leisure.

THE HOTEL WAS NICE. WE ENJOYED THE ACTIVITES THEY HAD AVAILABLE FOR ALL AGES; THE POOL WAS NICE; HOWEVER THE FOOD WASNT ALL THAT GREAT. IT WAS FROZEN FOOD BUFFETT STYLE EVEN AT THE POOL. THOUGHT THEY COULD'VE DONE A BETTER JOB FOR THE PRICE ON THE FOOD AND THE SERVICE. NOT VERY MANY STAFF MEMBERS AT THE POOL.

Eat, drink and be merry!

We ate, drank, and enjoyed some of the amenities in the hotel like water aerobics and kayaking. We rented the jet skis and saw beachside massages, which had a beautiful view. Most of the breakfast and lunch available is buffet and it is alot of hot foods. It would have been nice to just get a sandwich or something small and simple. There are alot of carbs, but not alot of variety of fruit/vegetable during the day. There is also alot of pie and cake for dessert. I am not a fan of either, so that was a little disappointing. Other than that, the place is beautiful and CLEAN. The staff is amazing.

Take a few minutes to look at the small tables set up by local artists. We got a handmade painting for $15 in 15 minutes and it is amazing.
