Vast Puerto Vallarta hotel merges old and new Mexico design
Krystal Vallarta is a tale of two resorts: one resembling a Mexican village with quaint cobblestone streets and gardens, the other a luxury haven with contemporary, minimalist rooms with stunning bay views. In the new Grand Tower, guests unwind with high-end amenities such as rainfall showers and private oceanfront balconies, while 501 garden rooms further the serenity. Four a la carte restaurants and two swim-up bars heighten the mood for leisure.
Highlights
  • Two swim-up bars and tranquil Aqueduct pool area
  • Kids Club with supervised activities
  • Contemporary rooms in the new Grand Tower
  • Four a la carte restaurants and 24-hour room service
Rooms
Krystal Vallarta underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation to launch Grand Tower, where 199 deluxe rooms favor minimalist, yet approachable, contemporary flair. Bold splashes of color, such as fiery orange bolsters and tropical bedding, complement clean lines and high-end furniture. The hotel pays attention to quality, from marble floors to over-the-counter sinks and rainfall showers in spa-caliber bathrooms. Balconies offer expansive views of the ocean, garden or Sierra Madre Mountains.Every room has an LCD TV.

Fans of traditional Mexican style opt for the garden rooms, which are set in a village-like setting, complete with cobblestone streets and more than 40 fountains.
Features
Two underwater tables and swim-up bars on each end of Krystal Vallarta's main pool attract those who like a cocktail while they soak. A large sports area divides the pool, while partially submerged sun beds keep guests cool as they tan. Seven Jacuzzis and a tranquil Aqueduct area surrounded by palm trees complete the feeling of tranquility.

Parents turn to the Happy Nino Kids Club to entertain the children and enjoy private time. Supervised activities run the gamut, from craft-making to an indoor playground.
Dining
Guests at Krystal Vallarta indulge in four a la carte restaurants in addition to 24-hour room service. La Trattoria serves Italian fare, while Kamakura Japanese restaurant sets a romantic scene with hanging lights and lush Aqueduct gardens. Because no Mexican trip would be complete without outdoor feasting, patrons can also dine in their bathing suits at poolside buffet Las Velas, lunch favorite Crazy Crab Snack Shack or Bogarts on the Beach.

Great Location With a Local Feel

Location, location, location! Taxis and the local buses are right out your front door and you are right in between Nueva Vallarta and Old Vallarta with restaurants and a store with a hot deli in walking distance. If you want a fancy Hilton, this is not for you. If you want to dive into the culture and stay ā€œlocalā€, this is perfect. It’s clean, basic, you have lots of room and it’s on the beach. There is construction going on and there will be for quite some time. It did not bother us and we stayed just about on the construction site. The front desk could use a little more help/staff but it’s a great place to be left alone and not hounded hundreds of times as you make your way through the resort. End of June is the beginning of the rainy season which is a neat time to go! Would be great for kids too!

Great Place, location ehh...

The location is a bit far off from the boardwalk where you can enjoy local foods, bars, and shops. You'll be looking at getting plenty of cab rides from here. The hotel itself is very nice and very large.

Birthday trip in mid-February

After reading reviews I was little hesitant to stay at Krystal but to my surprise it was a lot better than some of the 1 or 2 star reviews claimed. You never know what people expect. The staff is great and friendly, if you need help ask for Gerardo the bell boy. Francisco, the waiter is very friendly too. I would suggest not staying in the standard room since it has a mildew smell; we did upgrade to the ocean view and got a good discount. The food is ok at the buffet restaurant but make sure you try the Italian restaurant it was the best. I would not recommend the Japanese restaurant; the sushi was not good at all. If you have never tried sushi go for it, but if you know how it should taste stick with the buffet or Italian. Get the all-inclusive it is the best deal. The location is good since it is close to the airport, Dolphin Park and the pier (two blocks away). If you decide to take a trip downtown the bus takes 30 min and is very bumpy, it will be an experience. The cab ride is smoother and takes half the time. If you have time and want to do something other than lounge at the pool all day I suggest the Las Caletas excursion.

Our Annual Family Trip To Puerto Vallarta

We chose to stay at the Krystal Vallarta because of the price. We stayed in the building on the beach which had an "awesome" view and they have a "great" beach. The rooms were a little tattered but it appears that they are working on upgrading the building. We had free WiFi which was great and we also received a free "Continental Breakfast". However, even though that was offered when we booked we had to jump through a couple of hoops to get it - but when we did, it was good. The pool area is new and very nice as well as the whirlpool area. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. We wouldn't probably go back there as we prefer a more upscale hotel, but if you are on a budget it would be good for all families, couples and singles.

There is a grocery store nearby to buy snacks etc. at. It is much better to go European rather than All Inclusive. Lots of restaurants with much better and cheaper food both nearby and downtown.

The Krystal

The Krystal was an average resort. I was not pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel. We also had to wait 2 hours past our check-in time because the cleaning maid was "on lunch."

A good time was had by all

This is the 2nd time that I have stayed at the Krystal in PV. Yes, there is some construction going on and I can see where it could get annoying. We were in the oceanview rooms and weren't bothered by it. We loved our view and our time there. It was nice to get back to somewhere quieter after being in the busy old town area. The staff were as gracious as ever, although the concierge people weren't very friendly after they figured we weren't going to sit through their presentation. Guess I can't blame them as they weren't making any money off us. I can't say enough about the massage ladies!!! This is by far the best deal ever. Couldn't talk the husbands into doing it so my girlfriend and I did a 2 for $75 US massage, which lasted for 75 minutes for each of us. It was the best massage I have ever had. We decided to do it again another day so they added another 10 free minutes!!! Awesome!!

Disappointed in Vallarta

Misled is the first word that comes to mind. We were also very disappointed. The literature and online information about this hotel is sadly innaccurate and outright wrong! Although the property has a certain charm, there is NO grand tower as advertised, and NO swim-up bar (it advertises two). Much of the main pool area has been sold and the resulting pool space is small and boring. There are now two small separate pools in the main area, with a third pool remotely located on the property without any food, drinks, or hotel staff on hand. The beach is large but elevated so you cannot even see the water's edge, and it is difficult to walk the beach due to the slanted, 10 foot drop in level from beach to water's edge. Only a very limited rooms have ocean view - most are located in the village setting, walking is required to get anywhere on the property. The staff was nice enough but nowhere near as friendly as we have encountered in 15 prevvious visits to Mexico. Food was mediocre at best, and we ate there only a few times for convenience only, as we chose the European plan. There are absoltuely NO activities around the pool (which were advertised, as well) and we were lucky to get one volleyball game going in 10 days. We did not pay a lot to stay there, so we got what we paid for, I guess - very little. Finally, there was some construction with placing of stone on various walls around the main pool area - listening to a cement saw for 8 hours each day was unpleasant, to say the least. Rooms often have stairs and most buildings do not have elevators - be prepared for a walk-up! Not our favorite vacation and we will not go back.
