Needs new beds!
We stayed in a studio at Costa Sur. The bed was terrible and we asked for a foam pad the second night and that helped a little. Service was wonderful, but the hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade. Happy hour great, hotel food OK. You can sit at a beach area, but it is all rocks. Short bus or taxi ride into town. Lots of older retired people there. Hotel computer awful, and $20 a week for web access if you bring your own computer. We did have several wonderful massages at the hotel for a fantastic price!

Excellent meal at Cafe des Artistes. Beautiful presentation, excellent service, great food, fun setting. We ate in a patio area with lots of plants, felt like we were in the jungle. Bit on the pricy side but worth every penny.

CLOSE TO ALL OF PV
Howard Johnson Hotel in OLD TOWN Puerto Vallarta was really relaxing with its private beach access and onsite restaurant and bar. The food was Great the service was Great. The WIFI is a complete rip off at $40 a week US. The rooms need to be updated (They are currently in the process) Bed was very un-comfortable but they all seem to be this way in Mexico.lol I would stay here again. Great for Families and children.

great people
The facility is average for Mexico. The people I met were generally time share owners and quite nice. Some have been coming for 20 and 16 years. I think they made my trip quite like being at a local pub for Christmas. I usually end up friends with much younger people, but a lot of the owners are now retired. Good for a change to meet older people my age.

Friendly, safe, clean place to stay
The hotel staff is very friendly and professional. The room was clean and comfortable. The ocean view from the balcony is fantastic. The bed is a bit firm. However, I understand that new beds and plasma TVs are coming in early 2011. There are many activities provided by the hotel to choose from: Spanish lessons, aquarobics, etc. You can catch the local bus to and from Puerto Vallarta (as well as beaches to the south of the hotel) literally right in front of the hotel. Hotel restaurant unfortunately provides average food. The gift shop is sad-not much interesting merchandise. Would stay again. Will recommend to others.

There are many reasonable priced restaurants in Puerto Vallarta such as Margarita Grill on Basilio Badillo. They make your guacamole and salsa right in front of you. Delicious! That street has many other food places worth exploring.

Great hotel - will definitely stay again
This is a beautiful hotel with a bright oceanfront rooms. It's quiet and peaceful. The restaurant serves excellent breakfasts at good prices and so does the Bar/snackbar. The dinners were a little pricey with smaller portions. Very friendly staff and no pressure to buy any vacation clubs here!!

The buses to Mismaloya and downtown Vallarta stop right in front of the hotel and the price is much lower than taking a taxi.

It is Howard Johnson Puerto Vallarta now
The one thing that was said about this hotel which was not true was that you could walk to downtown--wrong, you would never survive the walk. A taxi is 70 Pesos or about $5.00 US which is not bad at all.The view from all the balcony's is fantastic, the best part of the whole deal. we had previously stayed in Nuevo and in mid town and had never gone to 'cliff or mountain" side and it was beautiful. Not alot of beach area but enough for us and the waves were gentle and the snorkeling not too bad.we were disappointed with the location and the room but changed our minds. The staff was very nice and the rooms were clean and the view fabulous so we would go back. Maybe they will update some which probably does need to be done to compete with the other hotels.

Nice quite hotel stay
Restaurant didn't open until 8:00 am, but the friendly staff opened 15 minutes early. The first three days we were there, we had plans to go to a scuba diving course and had to gobble our food down. All of the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. We would definately stay in this hotel again.

Very nice "out of the way" resort
If you don't mind being out of the way, this is a very nice and simple resort with a fantastic ocean view. The room was a studio, but it had all of the simple amenities for nice stay.
