Not a Happy Camper

Would not recommend Sun, Jan 3, 2016
Our 10 day stay was in mid-December. We had upgraded our room to a honeymoon, ocean view room, when we booked because we wanted more room, a kingsize bed and also to insure we had an ocean view. This was the first disappointment. While we could see the ocean, our view was of the restaurant roof, bar and pool. Our room was crowded with no dresser, a single sink in the bathroom, and the tv and audio system jutting out into the walkways. Jutting out far enough, and low enough, my girlfriend(4' 10 tall) cut her head open going to the bathroom when it was dark. I will say the bed was comfortable. Housekeeping was sporadic at best. Towels and washcloths missing several times and bedding not changed. Mini-Bar. Day one we requested our mini bar to be stocked with extra bottled water and diet coke. Guess they heard more beer, fruit juice and every other kind of soda. This happened EVERY DAY. We'd call the front desk around 5pm, make our request for DC and water and we'd get nothing. The only time our request was fulfilled was I in the room when the mini bar service came. Got 4 DC's and waters but they took most all the beer, fruit drinks and other sodas. BTW, we were all inclusive. The food. The food was actually pretty good, at least the breakfast and dinner buffets and lunch menu. Some of what they called fine dining meals were lacking, at least from my perspective but would still rate the food good. I mentioned our view overlooked the pool. Both weekends, starting Friday, the pool and bar filled up with young people, teens to early twenty somethings. We did enjoy some of their activities but it was very noisy. Getting a drink/beer or seat at the pool bar was difficult during this time as well. AND, keep a close eye on drink glasses. The pool bar uses plastic glasses to serve beer and drinks. Makes sense, no broken glass in the pool area. However, they didn't seem to have a sufficient quantity of clean glasses when it was crowded. I personally observed, on multiple occasions while seated at the bar, the bartender taking the used plastic glasses collected from the pool and beach areas, RINSING them in the bar sink, NOT WASHING them, then reusing them. GROSS and very unsanitary. How about the ones from the beach that had sand on them and weren't rinsed very well or the ones that had cigarette butts in them. I saw it ALL. Our friends that came with us didn't believe me until the second to last day when they saw it themselves. Wonder why the 3 women in our group got sick? In addition to the above, there was several instances where kids were up and down the hallway, knocking on doors at 2, 3, 4 in the morning. We had to call the front desk multiple times to have things quieted down. A final note. I've been coming to PV for about 20 years and have stayed in hotels all but one time. Hotels that were both more and less expensive and have NEVER had accommodations and service even close to this bad. Unfortunately, this is only my girlfriends second trip to PV and she's not wanting to come back now. I really hate that as I've traveled many places in Mexico, for both business and pleasure, and have enjoyed PV the most. Sorry for the bad review but it is what it is. Art

young couple just vacation

Would not recommend Sun, Dec 13, 2015
The place was very nice and quiet the 1rst couple days/nights. then this seems to be the place for the locals hang out. day 3 all is good went to take a little nap at 1pm. at 3pm was awakened by very very load yelling and music and went to the balcony and looked out and there was over 100 young locals partying and yelling and playing very loud music. Got up went down to get a drink (all inclusive) and had to wait in line for over 45mins for a drink. I asked the front desk what's the deal?? and she replied oh yes it gets pretty rowdy towards the weekends. she said you can sit in the lobby bar for better service. that's not what I had in mind when booking an oceanfront all inclusive was to sit in a lobby bar. probably won't be back to this place. not really worth the money. los arcos/costa sur are better values

Just ok...girls trip

Would not recommend Wed, Aug 26, 2015
We were very disappointed in this resort. The food selection and activities were sub par and the rooms were definitely outdated. There is only one specialty restaurant even though it says there are 3 on their website. It is the same restaurant...just changes food cuisine every night. You can't even reserve it when you get there. You have to wait in a long line at 9 am every morning just to reserve a table at the specialty restaurant. The food was not bad, but there was one day when there were tons of fruit flies on the cantaloupe! Yuck!! There were NO activities during the day...the activities people were doing the pool games in spanish. This place did not cater very much to Americans. Most of the guests were mexican or spoke spanish. The pools were always packed with kids and although we made the best of it, the trip would have been much more fun if the shows at night were somewhat cool or if there were other activities during the day. We wanted to just relax at the resort and do the activities on the resort since it was just a group of us girls and we didn't feel comfortable going off the resort alone. It was so boring and the lounge never had any chairs to just hang out and drink. We ended up going out downtown anyway, which was much more fun. The staff was always nice and courteous so that part was not an issue. It was just the lack of activities and amenities that really got me...overall, just an okay resort. Pay more money and stay at the Barcelo Puerto Vallarta. It is a much nicer resort and they had way more fun activities like a ping pong table, pool volleyball, painting ceramics by the pool (they even glazed them and baked them so you can take them home!), nicer rooms, etc.

Awesome Trip with friend

Would recommend Sat, Aug 8, 2015
We have been to Puerto Vallarta many times and stayed at other hotels. We always wanted to be closer to town. We were looking for a trip to Puerto Vallarta and came across Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Spa and knew it was close to town. We enjoyed are trip to Puerto Vallarta more this time as the beach was great, clean rooms, the staff were very nice and helpful. We walked to town, grocery stores instead of taking a cab ever time. Would highly recommend this hotel.

True PV Experience

Would recommend Sun, Jul 26, 2015
We wanted to stay in town to be fully immersed in the culture of PV instead of being in Neuvo Vallarta in the larger posh 4-5 star resorts where we usually stay. It definitely was that and we felt very safe and comfortable from day one. The hotel was more of a locals hotel with lots of buses from Guadalajara coming in daily loaded with families. We were maybe 3 of 20 Americans/Canadian's (with the rest being Mexican) staying at the hotel which was really awesome!! It was great to have our son who has studied Spanish for 3 years be able to converse with the locals, guests and staff members. As soon as they knew he knew some Spanish.... it was on! LOL. We were able to get his senior pictures done by the team of photographers at a fraction of the cost in the states. They did a very professional job! The food was good and the staff very friendly. Should have remembered a few more names but young Carlos at the bar went out of his way to make sure we were well cared for throughout our 8 days stay. I believe it was genuine and not just because us Americans were tipping a lot unlike the locals. The pools were nice but should have kept the kids in the larger pool and left the smaller pool just for adults. Great workout room which was air-conditioned. We booked a zip-line tour in the jungle through the concierge which was a breeze. Great day of adventure!!! The beach was great and the vendors not too pesky. They respected when you said no and we even befriended a few of them who would go find other vendors selling items we didn't see but wanted to take home as souvenirs. They were courteous and spent time telling us about life in PV and the struggles they face but also about the joys of family and friendship which seems to resonate throughout their culture. Service didn't let us down while on the beach either. The burger bar on the beach was most welcome. The room we had was small and didn't have any flair at all. Bed was comfortable!! It served our purpose for a place to lay our heads after a full day in the sun. The air conditioning stopped working one night and maintenance was there within 10 minutes to fix. My biggest and only complaint was the noise inside the hotel. The door had a 1 1/2 inch opening at the bottom and the noise level all night did not stop. Very empty hall ways that echo's. A few complaints to the front desk did little when a group of 30 YOUNG kids kept it going till 5 am, slamming doors, blasting music and talking excessively loud. Security came by a few times and they'd quiet down for 5 minutes and it would start all over again. This went on for 4 days! The hotel was very close to the Malecon so walking was a breeze. We walked up into the neighborhood daily to exercise and look for real estate and felt very welcome and safe. There is a huge sports park 5 blocks North that was fun to visit to watch local soccer and baseball games. Best tip is so go across the street kiddy corner at the small vendor squeeze you fresh orange juice. 2 liter's was only 50 Peso's which make the most delicious screwdrivers! Lot's of great local restaurants and the street taco's were to die for! Great stay overall.

Would recommend Mon, Feb 9, 2015
the check in process was smooth, the hotel overall was nice. location is perfect, as a single African American woman walking around by myself, I was not harassed or bothered, i found some locals to talk to and had a blast on and off the resort, the only complaint was the food selection, i am a foodie person and I love to eat but the selection was horrible on the resort, i found better food off the resort. The staff was overall nice.

Great location

Would not recommend Sun, Oct 19, 2014
The hotel is located very close to the Maleceon, about a 7-10 minute walk to the board walk. We stayed here as a group of single guys and it was easiest location to walk into town for the nightlife. However, the resort itself, I've had much better. It could definitely get a lot worse but I just expected a bit more. The pool was nice but could've been bigger. Our room's A/C wasn't functioning half the time, we ended up changing rooms on the 5th night because we couldn't stand waking up in a puddle of sweat. The staff is great, they are very accommodating and I have zero complaints about the service.

Dining

Teatro Limon is an amazing restaurant. If you need to take a break from the regular food at the resort and want to enjoy some 5 Star, 5 course meals, this is the place you want to be. Bruce, a North American born chef, is amazing and his passion for great food just pops out on your plate.
