Staff are quite helpful and the location is impossible to improve, but the hotel is run down and needs lots of improving. Constuction does not help either.

Constant Remodeling to Something Better?

Blue Chairs is the best of what's around in PVR for the gays. Not sketchy, beach side, ocean view rooms are the best - even partial views. (Note: rare to find lesbian couples here) That said it's improving each time we stay there, nicer rooms, rainfall overhead marble showers, flat-screen tvs, but this time while dirt cheap you can tell it's a work in process. We lost WiFi for 3 days of 7; lost power for 5 hours one day and water another. Now the jack-hammering is not only in the hotel but nearby too, but would mercifully start around 12 p.m. Pluses: The "Blue Chairs Resort" is on the beach with decent service and moderately priced menu (super cheap to U.S. prices, Coronas 40 pesos, Margs 50-70 pesos, grilled sandwiches 140 pesos). It's literally 25 feet away. Word to the wise, you are on a beach so unless you eat fast get your salsas on the side. Also, there's a range of beach goers. Mostly gay, some young, some old, but all pretty fun and in various states of Speedo. Also, the higher floors will be closer to the roof top bar, which is great for sunsets and their raucous 3x/week drag show. Booming music stops around 12 am.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

After dinner, the clubby places to hit (in order starting after 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m.): Le Noces, Manana, taco lady. Other options: Paco Paco, Los Amigos. And, unless you like tourist traps, you can skip the straight parts of PV.

Blue Chairs

The location is pretty good for the beach, a little bit of a trek for the bars or downtown. The rooms were clean, but a bit aged. There really was no hot water.

Great location, but it could be better

Right at the gay beach, they have a rooftop bar with shows every night. All the nightclubs and bars are within walking distance, which makes it a very convenient location overall. Now the thing about it is the fact not all rooms are updated, they are more on the shabby side. And the service is uneven, towels may be missing from the room, specials may be quotes in different print materials differently. No safe boxes in the room, but they do have some wooden lockers by the front desk, not the safest place for your passports, but we didn't have a problem. Staff is very friendly and try their best to serve the guests.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Fish Shack. A great place for fish tacos, super friendly staff and mojitos are 2x1 noon-5. Tapas Barcelona is a long walk, or a cab ride but it's well worth it.

Room no so great

It didnt have towels or coffee. The service was not good although the food was surprisingly not so bad. The staff was nice. Next time i would stay at a hotel with a nicer room near blue chairs. The prices in the area are cheaper than the pricey blue chairs.

Power failed a couple of ...

Power failed a couple of times during our stay. Wireless internet failed after the third day of our stay and the staff was not very helpful in resolving the issue. Several times there was no running water but it seemed sporadic as other rooms did not have running water while our room did. The water issue usually only lasted for a couple of hours at a time at most. The television in our room had broken controls on the front of the television so you really needed a remote control to change channels. Unfortunately the remote in our room did not function and the front desk kept saying we would receive a functioning remote tomorrow. The day before we left, the front desk gave me a different remote, but it also did not function. The location was great and there is so much potential, but the staff did not seem very interested in resolving issues that would not take that much effort to resolve.

No Hot Water, Services are lacking....

When we first arrived, the room was not ready. The next morning room service never came to the room until the management was informed. The property is very noisy with road noise and construction. The restaurant did not have coffee in the morning and the wait staff had difficulty bringing the correct order to the tables.

Good value for beach front

Nice newly remodeled room with lots of marble, good bed, great panoramic bay view from oceanfront balcony. Beach bar palapas are across the street but overpriced compared with other parts of beach. The neighborhood is quiet at night (except for pounding ocean waves) but it's at the far southern edge of the romantic zone meaning walking up and down hills on uneven cobblestones streets and what pass for sidewalks or taking taxis as bars/restaurants are mostly about 10 blocks away or farther. Would have liked a room safe, especially when patio door lock was broken and never repaired during our four night visit. There is a lobby safe for passports. I would fear bringing a laptop even though the hotel has free Wi-Fi. One guest on my floor had his room burglarized and lost the many American dollars he had foolishly stashed there. I used BanaNorte near the plaza on Oltas Alta Street and got the best exchange rate there. My first trip back to Puerto Vallarta since 1972 when it was 1/20 of its size now. Still, the old town is authentic Mexico but I felt most safe with many police on the beat. For the rest of the sprawling development, one might as well stay in the US in Miami Beach. So-so food in and around my hotel but had great thin-crust pizza at La Piazzetta and good Austrian food at Kaiser Maximillians on Olas Altas Street. But mostly ate around Boardwalk/Malecon and Playa Los Muertos at Beach House, El Dorado, La Palapa (latter where Mexico's President Calderon dined while I was there complete with fireworks and plenty of security) and have no complaints about food/drink quality and value.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

Took the party boat Cielto Lindo from the marina to Las Animas with snorkeling around Los Arcos. It's a great value with its open bar if one likes to drink. The Los Veranos canopy zip lines were a real adrenalin rush with a very professional staff to make them safe. Booked both through Gray Line. Watch out for the timeshare "discounts" starting at the airport exit and everywhere else getting one roped into a lengthy "hotbox" sales "visit" to a hotel/condo project. They are very aggressive.

A Good time in PV

the hotel is dated and a little old but good for the value. the staff is friendly and very welcoming. it is located in a great spot. I will surely return to the Blue Chairs! it is not for those who want the comfort of a 5 star but if you want to ruff it a bit and just enjoy it is worth the money. you are paying for ambiance and location.

stay away from the touristy places and just check to see where the locals eat. be ready to do without A/C at most places so stick to places that you can eat & move on.
