Disappointing hotel
Staff at this hotel did not show any willingness to assist me or my two friends that stayed here. I had previously stayed at the Barcelo Hotel in Cabo which proved to be a completely different experience than the one in Puerto Vallarta. In comparison to the one in Cabo, this hotel didn't even come close to meeting our expectations from a service standpoint. Some examples are: at the time of the checkin, we weren't given a quick instructions on how to checkout towels with 'pool cards' for the pool or make dinner reservations that needed coupons (these are both different processes from the Barcelo in Cabo); every morning we woke up with bedbug bites all over our bodies; when we asked housecleaning to provide us extra pillows, they were no show for over an hour at which point we had to make a second call to get their attention; when sitting at the buffet, getting water from the waitstaff was like pulling tooth; the food was at times not cooked well; only one person was going around the pool in the day time to get drink orders and we resorted to going to the bar ourselves to get our drinks; they must have ice cream in a secret vault somewhere because we asked 3 people for icecream and were ignored by the first 2 while standing by the bar for 25 minutes for it. Overall, we simply did not feel welcomed in this hotel and would never return.

I recommend!
Barcelo, Puerto Vallarta was an excellent choice. They have 2 high rises about 10 storys high. The one label #2 is the quiter of the 2. The pools are typical. The drinks were real. Some top shelf. The beer was passable. I liked the family atmosphere and the fact it wasn't so big you need a golf cart to get around. The Mexicans on the beach don't fish too well but the snorkeling was fun. And the guide was nice.

This is one of the best hotels ever The location is incredibly I will go back tomorrow The only problem that I didn't like was that the internet service is a rip off $15.00 per day that's what I pay a month in my house and a local phone call $13.00 pesos I had to borrow a phone from the us to call some friends for less cost that the hotel. Other than that the place is the best

Back for the third time
Went back--this time with friends (a former boss and his wife).. They loved it--and said they can't wait to go back--next time with their 20 year-old and 22 year old sons. They kept remarking how they couldn't believe the value you get for your money here. P.S. The couple saying this have been all over the world on vacation, and have lived in Dubai, San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles, and India. They took 2 of the zip line and hiking and boating tours--and loved them both. Visited the local tequila distillery and took 4 bottles home.

Dining tip:
In Hotel
Book the 3 special restaurants for all the nights. They will usually include them if you take some ot the hiking/boating tours of the areas nearby. The beaches down the coast from here are amazing--but go early (before the crowds) and take some bug spray. It's like you just escaped to your own private shangra-la.

Friends and Family getaway
This was the first time our two families were traveling to Puerto Vallarta. We were unsure where to stay, and found that this was the perfect location. Nesteled in a cove, the beach was not crowded at all. Loved the "jungle" across the street from us. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food exceeded our expectations as we have experienced some all-inclusive food that was horrible.

Awesome Family Trip
Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is a very quaint hotel. Although not a mega resort its very spacious and comfortable. The beach is not very big, however it was very inviting and safe. We loved it. The grounds are very well kept and clean. Our room was on the 7th floor and we had an amazing view of the ocean. The room was clean and spacious, we booked a family suite, lots of room for our family. The staff are all gracious and ready to help. The A la Carte restaurants were all very good, our only complaint would be dinners at the buffet, not much variety. Overall a very nice Hotel, have already recommended to others.

Terrific getway
Had a great time, played, rested and enjoyed the Wonderful scenery..... very relaxing! The only negative for my choice is the beach, the sand was a little to rough for my taste and the water was too dirty but very warm water!

Great location, below average food
We booked this place after staying at the Valentine Imperial Maya in Cancun last year, which we loved. The difference in food, service and ambiance could not have been more stark. We were also disappointed at the noise level from kids running around and screaming. Don't stay here if you don't have kids or aren't tolerant of the noise. They have a kids playground right by the pool. They sell day passes to the resort and it seems like the locals like to bring their kids there on the weekends. The food at the buffet and and the snack bar was very disappointing, and well below par for an all-inclusive in my opinion. We disliked it so much we went in to town to eat just to get a break from it. You shouldn't have to do that when you're paying for an all-inclusive. Also, they only let us eat at the restaurants three times during our weeklong stay. When we went to make reservations on Sunday for the week ahead they told us all of the restaurants were full! At this point I got upset and demanded that they get us in to the restaurants, which they finally did. Turns out it probably wasn't worth the fight. The food was infinitely better than the buffet, but still lacked any type of wow factor. The food in town was better. Also, as far as the drinks go, we don't drink alcohol so we ordered all of our drinks virgin. Regardless, they weren't very good. They didn't seem to be mixed well and seemed too syrupy. On the plus side, the location this hotel sits in is amazing. Much more scenic than Cancun or even other parts of Vallarta. It's surrounded by hills with lush jungle vegetation. The beach is beautiful, but the sand is coarse and not pleasant to walk on. There is a great snorkeling spot minutes from the hotel by boat, and we booked a trip with our friends for $25 per person. Well worth it and very convenient. Also, you can go ziplining where they filmed the predator movie in the hills behind the hotel. Couldn't be more convenient. Plus there is a waterfall at the zipline spot that you can slide down. The guys that took us snorkeling hooked us up on the zipline for $50 per person. Money well spent. Bottom line, if you aren't much of a food person and don't mind kids, or are bringing kids yourself, you'll probably like this place. The rooms are actually pretty nice and the bed was great. If, however, you want to eat well and relax without noise, don't stay here. We'll be going to Cancun next time we head to Mexico.

Beautiful Location, ok food...
The location of this resort couldn't be any better. The views are great and it has a great private beach near some great snorkeling spots. It is also near El Eden where there is some really fun stuff to do. Everything about this place is great. The only criticism is the food is average but not great.

If your going to go do the zip lines in the jungle or go snorkeling, the merchants on the beach all have connections that can get you hooked up for almost half the price.
