What a Scam
I would love to write a good review for this hotel because it is in a very good location, short walk to all, and the majority of the staff was really really nice. However the beds were extremely hard - so hard that I am in an indescribable pain from sleeping on it for 10 nights - it had NO PADDING or cushion whatsoever!!!! The pillow was tiny and felt like a small bag of marshmallows! I have asked the front desk about the mattress, and they decided to place a foam padding on one of the beds (my roommate’s), but not mine!!! I have complained twice to the manager and he was immensely sarcastic to me, he chose not to action, and he even blamed me for not telling him earlier, among other things!! Additionally, be VERY VERY careful when you book: I have booked online with the use of an online tool- I tried to indicate that there were two people staying in the room, indeed got a room with two beds. I *even* called the hotel directly to confirm that the price was for two people. Well for some reason the reservation went through for one person (with two beds). Then, when I got the bill at the very end, they added a mysterious "FEE" for my roommate!!! Can you imagine?? Asked the manager about that, once again he was not only sarcastic, he blamed me for not having the agreement in writing, he also went so far as to question my ethics, and he even had the audacity to ask for cash only for that fee. One question that he never answered however: why would a customer like me book a room with two beds with the intent to only use one? I noticed that other hotels close by had MUCH better quality beds.

Passable
This hotel provides just the basics and is a decent choice for a gay traveler. There is nothing very modern or luxurious. There are definitely nicer hotels you can stay at for the same price or even less. However, I can't really complain about the place. They provided what they said the would.

el gran Hotel- mexico city is spectacular!
From the moment we entered the hotel, you forgot that you were in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the historic center of the city. From the beautiful tiffany glass ceilings, to the exquisite roof top restaurant, to the modern and spacious room, the entire stay was wonderful! The staff was very friendly and helpful, at all hours of the day.

Short walk from hotel
the grand hotel is right in the center of historic,Mexico City. Located right on the Zocalo, you are a hand's throw from the national palace, the Templo Mayor(ancient Aztec temple) and the great Cathedral. As busy and noisy as the Zocalo can be, the hotel is quiet and peaceful

Good, but definitely not great.
This was my second time in Puerto Vallarta. My partner and I are from the east coast, and we dropped in for 5 days. The hotel is beautiful for Puerto Vallarta standards in the Romantic Zone where everything is old and rugged. They have a nice pool and hot tub, and everything is very clean. The staff, with the exception of one overly dramatic queen who thinks he's the best thing on earth, was extremely friendly. Apparently, the whole town feels the same way about him from what we heard. Anyway, [...] was absolutely excellent - extremely knowledgeable, super friendly. There was an excellent view from our balcony, and the room was extremely spacious with a balcony and partial ocean view. We were also thankful the room had a safe, reliable maid service, and a very nice bathroom. A bad thing about the room is there wasn't a refrigerator. Fair enough – that amenity is not listed on their website, but it would have made the experience much more enjoyable…especially since everyone is drinking beer constantly, and hello it's Mexico – you have to buy bottled water all the time. It would have been nice to keep it cold. I don't know if they even have an ice machine. They never told us nor did I see one. The beds are one of the worst things about this hotel. The beds are horribly hard as a rock. I like a firm mattress…but this place is straight up like sleeping on stone. I think all the beds are simply old as the walls themselves. Also, the elevator was broken the last 4 days of our stay. This hotel has seven flights so imagine how annoying that can be. Granted, we stayed over a holiday weekend where it would be hard to have someone come and fix the elevator during that time but the fact of the matter is still that it was broken, period. All in all, you could do better than the Abbey Hotel, but if you're looking for a great time in a great area and want to feel at home with the LGBT community, the Abbey will work for you. It totally better than Blue Chairs any day.

Loved PV, Loved the Abbey!
My friend and I decided to take a relaxing trip to PV (our first time) and we decided to stay at the Abbey. The two best things about the Abbey are the customer service and location. As soon as we entered the front door [...] greeted us with a warm smile. Throughout the trip [...] gave us suggestions and answered our various questions such as, "Where is the best place to shop", or "Which club will be the most popular tonight." Also each person gets a wrist band that gets them discounts to Club Manana and other establishments in the city. Also, it was nice to see that the Abbey allows everyone to stay there not just gay men. Second, the location of the Abbey is superb. Located in between the Gay Beach and the Gay Nightlife Area makes everything within walking distance. Great restaurants such as Coco's Kitchen (you eat in a garden like setting), El Fuego (half price appetizers 2-6pm) and a fusion rooftop restaurant on the corner of Amapas and Pilitas (get 10% off from Carlos) are neighboring businesses. As far as the beach, gays usually go to the Blue Chairs or Ritamos Club (Green Chairs). Our friend and I tried both, and we loved Green Chairs. The customer service was better and there was more space on the sand at Green Chairs. Finally, since the Abbey is located within a great location it can be a bit noisy. But when our friend and i got back in the late night we would open our balcony doors and the sound of the waves would put us to sleep. I would request a ocean room not only to view the sunsets, but also so you can sleep to the sounds of the waves at the nearby beach. Now, back in the snow in New Jersey we miss PV and the Abbey, and cannot wait to return!

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Coming from the New York area PV lived up to our expectations. . Nightlife is divided into two sections, lounge and club time. From about 11/1130 pm-1/2 am many people drink at bars/lounges such as Garbo, Apaches or La Noche (my favorite). After 2 am people go to clubs such as La Manana or Pacos Ranch. La Manana is the place to be on the weekend, where as Pacos is the weekday place.
