very nice and quiet
i did some research when choosing so i knew what to generally expect; a nice quiet place to come to after busy days. The location is far enough from Cancun and it has a small but wonderful beach on the property. What was surprising to me is that Puerto Aventuras is segregated into 2 parts: the town where the low to middle-income habitants live and work, and the enclosed-community where the rich live and work. I was looking forward to cohabiting more with the locals so if that is an interest of yours, you might want to think about another location. The Omni hotel, as are the other hotels, is in the enclosed community.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
The food in the enclosed-part of Puerto Aventuras caters to foreigners and the prices are generally expensive. We found an awesome place for typical Mexican food in Playa del Carmen (15 minute drive away) called La Pescadilla and the prices were teacher-salary affordable!

Great small hotel in an ideal location.
The Omni Puerto Aventuras was a great place to stay. The service was great, the beach was beautiful, and there were many good restaurants within a five minute walk of the hotel. The pool was very nice and the pool/beach bar had very food food and the prices were reasonable. There was good snorkeling right off the beach. I saw a stingray, sea turtle, and a barracuda and many other colorful fish. While there we also went on a four hour catamaran cruise on the FatCat. The boat left from the marina which is adjacent to the hotel. The only negatives about the hotel is that they sold day passes for the beach so you needed to get down to the beach by 11 am if you wanted to get lounge chairs. Also, the drinks were a little pricey, but there was a convenience store right across the street from the hotel where we stocked up on water, beer, and snacks.

Short walk from hotel
The drinks at the hotel were kind of pricey so we saved money by bring a soft cooler and buying water and beer at the convenience store right across the street. Also, most of the restaurants nearby had happy hours.

Great for families
warm and welcoming, the staff were all fantastic. the food was wonderful, but a little expensive. the pools and beach couldn't have been any better. one drawback was the firmness of the beds, much too hard.

What a wonderful experience!
We have vacationed to the Riviera Maya many times in recent years. We have stayed at large all inclusive resorts and also five star luxury resorts. This was by FAR our favorite vacation thus far. First let me start with the fact that this hotel is located smack dab on the beach in a little gated community that has more charm and quaintness than anywhere we have been before. You are a stones throw away from the water from any of the 30 rooms at the Omni. The rooms themselves are nothing fancy, but they are so incredibly clean that you could eat off the floor. The beds were not plush, but very comfortable and definitely not hard. My only complaint about the linens would be the pillows. It's time that the pillows get replaced as many of them were lumpy and too thick to get comfortable. On the flip side the bath towels were big, fluffy, and luxurious. The housekeeping was phenomenal. They cleaned our room twice a day with turn down service at night. All rooms have a patio that consists of a jetted hot tub, a hammock, a table and chairs, and a small cushioned bench. Heavenly! The pool, the lobby, and the restaurant are also impeccably clean and inviting. The staff is ready to please you and do their best to accomodate any needs. We were always greeted with smiles. There are not enough good things that I can say about the Omni and about Puerto Aventuras. If you are looking for a quiet, fun, family oriented time the Omni Puerto Aventuras is the place to be.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Don't pay the high prices of Xel-hal snorkeling adventure. For a short cab ride and $8 for adults, $4 for kids, we went to a natural lagoon in Akumal and saw hundreds of the most amazing fish you could ever imagine. It was our best day:)

Enclosed pueblo
Just came back and I have to say, if you're looking for a secluded beach resort outside of tulum (~35min drive), and especially outside of cancun (~90min), this is the best spot. the service was great and since we went during the off season, nothing was really crowded, which was great. our jacuzzi overlooked the oceanside and the weather was amazing. truly a place to go if you want to stay at a smaller upscale resort. it's located within the gated marina community of puerto aventuras and has small shops and restaurants surrounding a pool with dolphins in the middle of it all.

Great location, fantastic service
My wife and I stayed at the Omni hotel for 4 days. We had a perfect experience. Pros: - The hotel is located close to major attractions (xel-ha, tulum, coba, playa del carmen). With a rental car, it is very easy to do daily excursions to these places. This was very important to us as we get to spend whole days in xel-ha, tulum + coba, cozumel. - The food at the hotel and at the restaurants nearby is great. We had breakfast at the hotel every day and it was something to look forward to as we went to bed each night. - The beach in front of the hotel is amazing. You can snorkel and see tons of tropical fish. They have also protected sections of water for kids etc. - The staff is very friendly and professional. - The hotel and the rooms are very clean. - The area is quiet, especially compared to nearby playa del carmen. Cons: - The area is quiet. For someone who enjoys night life, nearby playa del carmen might be a better choice. On the other hand, it is about a 20 minute drive from the hotel. Overall, the hotel was perfect for our vacation. I can't really think of any negatives.

Omni Was Fantastic
We were at the Omni for five days and it was perfect for us. Nice and peaceful. It's not the place to go for nightlife like clubs and such, but not to far from Playa if you're into that. The Omni is in a great location near Xel-Ha, Xar-et, Explor, and the various Mayan ruins. We did it all. Staff at this hotel was friendly and helpful, food was great. Had breakfast every morning watching the waves. hammock and private jacuzzi on the patio. Loved this place.

Paradise Found
This is a lovely little boutique hotel providing a near full array of amenities in an intimate, serene, off-the-beaten-path little package. Beach is narrow but truly beautiful with powder-soft white sand and clear turquoise waters. Pool is very inviting. We never had any difficulty finding a palapa, shaded area or beach chairs - even after "sleeping in". Staff is courteous, friendly and happy to assist in any way possible. Rooms are contemporary, well appointed, comfortable with 2-person jacuzzi tubs and hammocks on every balcony. Balconies on the lagoon side are a bit less than completely private and somewhat noisy at night, but this usually abated by 10 or 11 pm. Continental breakfasts were included and voluminous with fresh fruit and pastries. Also some of the best habanero hot sauce i have ever experienced! Overall, this 30-room hotel feels like a secluded, undiscovered paradise - the perfect venue for a quick romantic getaway.

If you wish to leave the hotel/community grounds and explore the many virtues of the Riviera Maya, it would be best to rent a car for your stay.

Great hotel in resort town.
Overall, great experience! Good: - Nice to have hotel services (included breakfast, room service, etc.), which are not provided if renting one of the surrounding condos. - Friendly and courteous staff, some of the best I've ever experienced. - Clean room with nice views (we were marina side, could see everything what was happening on main street and in dolphin pen). - Great location (beach on one side, marina w/restaurants and shops on other). - Breakfast delivered to room, or credit given for attached El Xenote restaurant (both of which were excellent). - Prices for goods out of room mini-fridge were a little high, but not unreasonable. - Friendly people an great service in surrounding restaurants as well. - Very quiet area - no wait a restaurants, only a few dozen people on the entire beach. Bad: - "Domestic dispute" in room next to us (which I guess is handled a little differently in Mexico...) on first day. They were removed before early evening, though. Probably not common. - Mini-fridge in room is pre-stocked, and you are charged for anything you take out. There is only enough room to put in a couple of your own canned drinks. - Low-flow shower head (of course, every hotel has these, anyways). Tips: - Check exchange rates: changed USD to Pesos in Puerto for 1:12.50, changed back in Atlanta for 1:11.50. Score! - Get a margarita from the lobby bar at the Omni. - Red bull is only available in the small grocery store on the opposite side of the marina, not the larger one next to Cafe Ole. - Bring Neosporin from home. $180 Pesos (~$15 USD) for tube from pharmacy in Puerto, $3-$4 USD at home. You will probably get a few cuts from coral. - You can haggle in stores. (Girlfriend wanted a cheap pair of sunglasses to take to the beach. Girl in store offered $200, then $180 Pesos. Girlfriend said she wanted something for a max of $10 US to take to beach/get scratched. Girl sold her glasses for $100 Pesos.) But be reasonable, these are not rich people.
