Our first All Inclusive
A perfect getaway, our first time in Mexico. As stated by others, if you see a poor review here it was made by very picky vacationers. Beautiful resort, very clean with attentive staff everywhere you look. We lucked out with a room steps to the beach. There is a wide assortment of great food, changes daily so you can really have something different every day, catering from the healthy conscious to the 'I am on vacation' calorie consumers. The drinks were good, wine not so much but now is the time to find something different right? Excellent beach on which you can walk for miles, lots to do and see. Entertainment staff work hard at a long day of making sure you are not bored. Taking in morning water aerobics is a great way to ensure you may have a guilt free lunch! (even for the men who 'attempt' while sitting at the swim up bar!) A great place to be with family and friends with the biggest chore being- deciding the night before, do we lounge at the pool or on the beach tomorrow... Thanks Maya

Excellent Experience - Very Relaxing
We spent 6 days, 5 nights and found to be an excellent value. Our room was an ocean view superior with 2 queen beds. Room was basic, but clean and well taken care of. Note - they use flat sheets rather than fitted sheets, so if you toss a lot, you may get knotted up. Bring your own bar soap if you desire - they provide soft soap only. Also, it you use a facial wash cloth, you will need to bring your own. Neither were issues for us. We read about the negative food reports in other reviews and found it to be just fine. The buffet is not gourmet, but was fine. You can have eggs cooked to order and omlets. Lunch down on the beach includes grilled burgers and chicken. Pico and guacamole are always avaliable. The Mexican restaraunt is OK, not special. The Mediterranian restaraunt was very good - relaxing as well. Gluten free and dairy free options are pretty limited. Beach location was excellent. If you want a palapa, you need to be on the beach by 7 am to get your chairs. Activity staff was enthusiastic and fun. They worked very hard to be inclusive to everyone. Thank you! Overall, we had a great time and would consider going back!

Excellent Resort!! Ranks with the best of them!
Just got back from VWM with two friends (in our early 20s). This was the 10th time I've been to PDC, so I know the area and I know what a great all-inclusive resort is like. Previously, I've stayed in the Iberostars, Rius, Barcelo, Palladium, etc. so this is the type of resort I am comparing the VWM to. This resort was great and we really couldn't have asked for more. It was a great trip and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to return again. Location - EXCELLENT. The town of PDC is where everything happens. THE VWM is within walking distance of Playa, but if you don't want to walk, the taxi is only 7 pesos. Doesn't get much better. You can walk into town via the beach during the day and it's a beautiful walk. Food - To the people who complain about the food here, I don't know what you're used to eating, but the food at VWM is great. They have something for everyone. One of my friends is the pickiest person when it comes to food and she said it was the best food she's ever eaten. The Mexican restaurant is to die for. Entertainment - The staff, as at all all-inclusives, works tirelessly all day. They never stop and have energy exploding through the roof. They're friendly and helpful, but if you just want to relax they will not hinder you. The activities during the day are well-organized and the shows at night are very entertaining. The pool is a bit smaller than the other resorts I have stayed in previously, but who wants to sit at the pool when you have the caribbean at your fingertips. The swimup bar is nice, but again slightly smaller that others I have seen. I would really have to stretch to find something that I didn't like at this resort. Everything was great and coming from someone who has stayed in a large number of different resorts, that means a lot. I was a little leary initially as the cost of VWM was less than other resorts, but I very quickly realized that the cheaper cost did was not apparent at the resort. This was a high-class resort with high-class staff that cares for its guests. I've only been back a few hours and I'm missing it already...as I do every time I leave Mexico. Will be back soon!

Good location only
Restaurants (main buffet and 3 a la carte) very purely design, resemble look of first class restaurants in former eastern bloc-empty. All three restaurants are impersonal/cold. We are not hard to please when it comes to food. However we were very disappointed by food selection and quality. My factory cafeteria has better food selection and quality. If there is rating for food quality I would rate it 1. Everything else is just average. I would not go to this hotel again or recommend it to my friends

Long walk from hotel
Do not shop at the strip mall across the hotel. Even the pharmacy is much more expensive than any in the town

Never again
The beach is great, and the hotel grounds are kept clean. Rooms are OK. Me and my family were not impressed by the poor quality of food and lower shelf liquor. We will not stay at Viva Wyndham Maya again.

Exceeded expectations
I had low expectations with a 3 star all inclusive in Mexico, but the Viva Wyndam had a full bar, excellent staff and good food for a very reasonably priced vacation. Rooms were basic but clean and showers hot. Amenities were very good (nice pool, pool bar, beach chairs, dive shop, etc.) and staff put on good nightly shows. Like most all inclusives its difficult to get into the higher end restaurants so only tried Mediterean (disappointing) and International (excellent). The snack bar and main buffet all had good food with reasonable selection. Definately recommend this hotel for the price.

February 2012 Vacation
This was our second consecutive year staying at Viva Wyndham Maya and we will return again. Love the perfect location of hotel...located within the 'gated community' of Playacar and within walking, biking, cheap cab drive into Playa del Carmen. Hotel grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Staff is professional, courteous, and friendly. Rooms are pretty clean, musty smelling though, and fairly spacious in size. Bathrooms are very nice and good size. Pool is average, not too large; however, beach is beautiful, and clean. Hotel restaurants: Don Diego, not good, Portofino [at Viva Azteca] good, and the new Viva Cafe was very good. Buffet dining area large and clean, food quality is mediocre, could be better. Definitely worth the money. We had a great vacation and again, will stay in this hotel when we return next year.

Not Applicable
We used Mayaland Tours to book our Tulum and Coba day trip. Small group, professional, reasonably priced, and great day. If you like the large 'super buses' and tour groups, Mayaland Tours to Tulum and Coba not for you.

Good family getaway
Service was good. Most of the staff was very nice. I would recommend that any special arrangements be made way in advance of stay as concierge and checkin desk not very helpful. Stay away from Rashid (lied and told us he was the manager and not accomodating at all) and Omar (supposed manager). Never actually met a manager that would not look you in the face while asking for a request. Quite rude!

Dining tip:
In Hotel
Restaurants within hotel were pretty decent compared to same type of food at daily buffet. Also didn't realize that you can only dine in 3 restaurants per stay whether it be weekly or 10 day stay. Lots of sloppy Europeans licking fingers and then grabbing food off trays with their hands. Ughhh!

great getaway!
a great value vacation! Small resort with easy access to all amenities. Staff eager to accomodate any request. Asked for several items and all recieved within one hour. Bartenders at the pool bar were great, friendly and even found top shelf brands we requested. Room is ordinary, could use some update. minimal drawer space, so left most things in suticase. Already planing the next trip there!

Snack bar by pool is open all day, but take advantage of lunch at the buffet. Much better food and many more choices. Put cover-ups over suits and had no problems.
