Our hotel stay was very good, the only complaint I have is the food wasn't very good and they didn't clean up after people were done eating very quickly so you would come to the restaurant and the tables still had dirty dishes on them and the birds would get up on the tables and eat off the dirty plates. Our rooms were spotless and the staff was very nice. It was a short 10 minute walk to town. We have been to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. Best=Puerto Vallarta 2nd= Riveria Maya Last=Cancun

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
No need to take a taxi from The Reef the walk is only 10 min. to town. If you take the ferry to Cozumel get to the ferry waiting area about 20 min. before your to leave the lines get very long.

Great outside ambiance but disappointing rooms
Overall our stay at the Reef Playacar was somewhat disappointing. WE enjoyed the overall location of the hotel and the outside amenities. The beach access is probably one of the nicest in the area. But we were very disappointed in the rooms since they seemed to have clearly deteriorated since our last stay a couple of years back. For instance was the bathtub fixed with a rough patch that covered about half the bottom and still leaked - which did not seem bother anyone. The AC was loud, AC drainage leaked into the room and the drapes had mold spots. Also be aware of very agressive sales people appearing to be hotel employees (which they are not!) trying to sell 25yr memberships for $13K for preferential access at certain hotels. This was very annoying!

Very Friendly
Staff was very friendly. Rooms were clean. Food was good. Entertainment was mediocre. It was great that it was only a 15 minute walk into Playa De Carmen. Even though we could get filtered water by the glass, didn't like that you had to pay for the bottled water. Also would have liked that there was a bar open at each side of the resort at the same time. Sometimes if we wanted to stay by the beach we had to go to the lounge/front of the hotel to get drinks. On the whole, the family and I enjoyed it.

Good Place to Stay
This was our frist trip to Mexico so we were unsure what to expect. The Reef was a nice treat. Clean and tucked in the jungle this is a good place for the family to stay. The staff was friendly and the food was good. The beach was nice and had great waves. We would stay here again.

Great Value for Money
This resort was wonderful! It was very comfortable, friendly and had a lot to offer! The food was just fine in the buffet and the snack bar. I did not go to the restaurant, so I can't comment on that. The room was clean, the resort had a lot to offer and the staff was awesome! The only problem I had during my stay was the lack of hot water. This turned out to be a plumbing problem, but for 4 days I did not even have warm water. This was an issue I am certain they have resolved. Additionally, toward the end of my 5 day stay, the coffee in the room wasn't replenished. Again, nothing major. It is within a 10 minute walk to the famous 5th Ave. I would definitely recommend this resort and will definitely stay again when I travel to Mexico.

Good value for the money
The Reef is in a very beautiful jungle setting and has the best beach in the vicinity. The rooms were nice and clean and the beds were VERY firm. The pools were a bit cool for our liking, but were well maintained and beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food in the buffet was plentiful and there was a good variety. Quality of food was good to very good. We ate dinner in the Mexican restaurant only one evening due to having to make reservations at a certain time of day. Most of the time we were away on excursions during reservation hours so we missed out. Not a big deal as we found more than enough to eat in the buffet and the snack bar. The drinks were a bit disappointing as the alcohol did not seem to be full strength and the beer was from a keg and mostly warm. Bar tenders were very nice and tried to be accomadating. Overall, we felt that we got our moneys worth at The Reef and would reccommend it to friends with a warning about the consierge upon check-in.

My review of The Reef Playacar-All Inclusive
The staff were friendly and accomodating. We had a problem with the first room they gave us as there was no hot water. As the problem had not been completely fixed by our 2nd day they offered us another room. This room did have hot water but was a room on the lower ground level. The room was musty and smelled of mildew. I am sure the hotel staff would have found us another room but we didn't want to spend our time on vacation changing rooms. Everything else at the hotel was great. Plenty of everything - food, drink etc. The entertainment wasn't the best but enjoyable. Location was very good. It really was only a 10 minute walk to Player de Carmen.

A 15 minute walk from the hotel will get you to Playar de Carmen and the ferry to Cozumel. They run every hour. Well worth doing.
