Sandos Caracol Eco Resort and Spa All Inclusive

Having had both hips replaced, I inquired of Sandos Web Relations about the availability of handicap-height toilets. One of their reps responded that they would add the request to my reservation. When I arrived I was informed that none of their rooms have such accommodations. Had I been given this information before I left, I could have made other arrangements. This was typical of the lack of organization/ mediocre guest service I experienced. Check-in was lengthy and omitted an all-important "towel card" which I needed to obtain a beach towel. My third floor room was nearly as far as you could be from the beach and still be on resort property. My room was decent sized, had marble floors, a spa tub, a large walk-in shower, a double sink and a small WC. Off the sleeping area there was a balcony just large enough for its two chairs. The king bed was firm. There was a clock-radio which was missing the 9v back-up battery which would have kept it functioning through the frequent power glitches. I purchased one while out on a side trip. The phone had no message capability which was disappointing as I was there with a group. Cell service was available (GSM) but voice is pricey. There were two closets but no dresser. The closet nearest the door had a couple of shelves and a safe with electronic combo lock. I kept my non-hanging clothes in my suitcase or on the coffee table. Reservations for the non-buffet restaurants were not as difficult to obtain as some have reported, perhaps because I was willing to take the first seating each evening. The steak was disappointing, otherwise the food was good. I am not a gourmet and found the two buffets which were open (the Mexican buffet was closed the entire week) to be more than adequate. Both had an omelet station at breakfast. There was coffee available before the buffets opened at the 24 hour bar across from the buffets. The drinks were watered down but plentiful. This might actually have been a good thing in terms of keeping hydrated if the wait at the bar wasn't so long. Catamarans are available for use by guests, although you are encouraged to take out an insurance policy (a damage waiver, actually) @ $10(US) for the week. There is also snorkeling and, for an additional fee, scuba. Water sports are contracted by Scuba Libre. If I go back to Playa del Carmen I will try a different resort.

The resort was great the staff was so helpful and kind. The food was good great location the room needed better air conditioning and the bed were uncomfortable. Other than that a great resort

This location is absolutely gorgeous! My friends and I went for a wedding (which went off without a hitch thanks to the awesome staff). Between the wedding and the drinks I don't think I could have had a better time. I met so many great people from different countries and the kids that we were with were wore out every night because there was so much. We did really want a karaoke portion because with such a diverse crowd I feel like it would have been a hit but we ended up meeting so many people it was somewhat of a just hopeful desire. We also loved how safe we felt while there. As we walked we never felt like anything bad would happen. I will definitely tell others to go as well. We have made plans already to go back next year with some friends from other countries that we met there.
