Basico opens its doors to a hedonist crowd with fifteen curious rooms distributed over four floors.
Very traditional ideas of Mexican everyday culture are brought to life in this property. Public schools, "cantinas", the petroleum industry and other reference are present throughout the property.
Hotel Amenities: Restaurant, roof top terrace and bar, juice stand, bikes available, beach chairs, beach club, dance lessons, coffee shop in the lobby level.

- On the first floor patio, guests can enjoy traditional recipes of fresh local seafood, accompanied by hand made tortillas prepared by chefs from the region of the Mexican Gulf. The open kitchen allows guests to choose their fish and side dishes, which will then be grilled in a homely atmosphere. A gigantic leafy tree offers shade and shelter for long and lazy lunches.

- On the top floor, the architects have designed what is now the Azotea Bar and pool area. In the steamy evenings, guests enjoy the sea breeze accompanied by the sounds of local DJs, a marimba" and the projection of tropical films on the surrounding walls.

Interesting rooms and dramatic architectural spaces of common areas balance the quirky use of "found" and common materials and finishes. The biggest frustrations were the plumbing fixtures and set up; the faucets and shower were challenging in figuring out the different adjustments needed to make work and the open shower to the living area will only work with the most intimate of traveling friends. But if your a fan of modern architecture and like the space/hotel to play a part in creating a cool vibe then this is a great choice in Playa Del Carmen as well as the sister hotel, Deseo, down the street. As the quirky ideas are replaced with more maintainable elements then the experience will only get better.

Close to the youthful nightlife of Playa Del Carmen that seems to be developing at a quick rate. Also has a great rooftop lounge scene with DJs.

The best adult boutique hotel in Playa!
Leisure vacation at Basico went perfect. Great rooms, great amenities leads to consistant excellent service experience. This is my 3rd visit there in 4 years!

very dissatisfaied
it is not a good option for playa del carmen. the hotel smells bad. rooms has not courtains. no privacy or intimacy.

Very cool spot
It's very hip- all made out of recycled materials. If you want to be in the middle of everything playa del carmen this is perfect- they have a DJ on the roof until 1Am so if you want a sleepy place this isn't it- but I'm never home very early anyway. The one drawback is the non seperate bathroom. THe shower was right in the middle of the room so if you want privacy this may not work. Have Fun!

Chic on the cheap.
Hotel Basico was a hidden gem amidst the typical tourist vacation accomodations. Very unassuming from the street, almost to the point that one would walk right by without noticing the property at all. Cleverly hidden above store fronts on the 5th Ave. promenade. Don't expect a fancy lobby, the best part of the hotel is on the second floor and roof top where the bars, pools, and lounge are. Beds were the most comfortable we've had the entire trip. The rooms are very cool utilizing recycled goods.Music is always good here.Location is in the middle of town near everything. We would definately stay here again.
