Nasty

No running water nor food the first night, ceiling leaked in the hotel room, left an inch and half of water on the floor, no night entertainment, no access to pool or hot tub after 2030, Establishment denied any compensation, yet offer to increase the room rate by 40.00 per day for a nicer room. We left, after two DAYS.

Bed was hard as rock, woke up with a back ache each morning .

HOtel in area of development. Pool was nice, as was beach area, white powder sand. The hotel needed some upkeep, paint chipping etc. The check in went smooth, but we were put into a room on a noisey corner. Had to wait till next day late morning to change to another room. Maid forgot to put towels and water glasses in several times. Came into room with the do not disturb sign on door. Had to request mini bar be filled. Food was so-so at the snack bars. Main dining area noisey. Breakfast was good. Had to make reservations early in A.M. each day to eat in one of the two restaurants, as in 6:30ish in the morning, otherwise unable to get in unless you wanted to eat dinner at 9:30 P.M. The food was good in the restaurants, service adequate. Bar selection small. Only tap beer was DosEquisXX, it was okay, would prefer option of a light beer.

Poor, condesending service!

After 6 hrs of traveling, we arrived to the hotel at 8PM.It would've been nice to be greeted with courtesy, respect and a smile. The front desk employee raised her voice when we wanted clarification on our room rate. Later, we went downstairs to grab a bite to eat. The waiter rudely asked us what we wanted and motioned with his arm, for us to step out of the restaurant. We're not sure why he did that. He clearly noticed that we were wearing the bracelets they give you when you check in. We decided after only 1 hr at this hotel that we would not consume not even one bottle of water! They did not deserve our business. We left after 3 days.

Great place for a 4 day trip!

Three of us girls, late thirties, went here for a 4 day trip to relax in the sun and have time away from work and kids. The hotel is great for beach and pool, and the close relation to Playa Del Carmen. Breakfast and lunch are fine but dinner was better in town than at the resort. The drinks aren't the greatest, and they serve them in little cups so everyone brought thermos mugs. Overall the trip was wonderful. I would go back to Grand Coco Bay for another 4 day trip but probably not for a full week. The beach there is breathtaking and the town of Playa is a $5.00 cab ride and well worth going there for dinner and drinks. Don't hesitate to stay at Grand Coco Bay if you aren't going into it expecting a 5 star resort, but just want an easy, relaxing, vacation with a great location close to town.

The Coco Bay resort

We have been to several other resort in Mexico that we liked better. The buffet was very lacking. Not a great selection of foods. Same thing everyday gets boring. The pool and swim up bar were great. Rooms needed some TLC.

Downtown Playa del Carmen was a short 20 minute walk along the beach to shop. Or any of the cabs were only $5.00 each way.

AVERAGE STAY

THE HOTEL WAS CLOSE TO EVERTHING YOU NEEDED. WHEN WE WALKED IN THERE WERE ONLY 4 PEOPLE AT THE POOL, IT MADE US WONDER IF WE MADE THE RIGHT DECISION. DUE TO THE FLU SCARE ALOT OF PEOPLE HAD CANCELLED THEY WERE ONLY AT 18% OCCUPANCY RATE. I BELIEVE THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THE LACK OF STAFF, AND THE ONES THAT WERE THERE WERE VERY TIRED AND GRUMPY. SEVERAL EMPLOYEES SAID THEY WERE REQUIRED TO WORK 12-18 HOUR DAYS, WHICH WHEN DEALING WITH DEMANDING TOURIST WILL STRAIN ANYONES SANITY. THE ROOMS WERE CLEANED VERY WELL EVERYDAY. FOOD WAS TYPICAL FOR A MEXICO VACATION. THE GROUNDS WERE WELL KEPT AND THE PLACE FELT VERY SECURE, AND SAFE. THE WATER PRESSURE WAS VERY POOR IN THE SHOWERS. WE HAD WATER LEAKING FROM OUR CEILING?????? THEY OFFER 2 KINDS OF BEER AND THE ONE THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE COULD DRINK THEY WOULD RUN OUT OF BY 2 OR 3, AND SAID THEY HAD TO SAVE THE REST FOR THE NIGHT. SAME WITH MIXED DRINKS THEY SEEMED TO RUN OUT OF MIXES OFTEN. BOTTOM LINE; DONT KNOW HOW IT WOULD BE UNDER REGULAR CIRCUMSTANCES??? THIS WAS OUR EXPERIENCE

Great time

Excellent staff and great service. There was a good variety of food in a large buffet and a good selection of lunch snack items if you didn't want the large buffet. The drinks were always available and they even had top brand names. We liked the location being on the north end of town. It provided an out of town beach walk in one direction and easy walk into town in the other direction. The resort was not one of the larger ones but was adequate for the price. On the negitive side, we were not happy with a couple of topless sun bathers on the beach. The resort staff claimed there was nothing they could do. Another item was the hogging of the beach towels to reserve chairs for the day. Towels were not available during the day when we wanted one. We really wish they would have provided free computer use for checking email and flight arrangements.

Small beach

Nice pool but very small beach. My room was near the lobby so, it was pretty loud. And while there I kept getting mesquito bites from sitting on the balcony. Property was nice, not great. Location was ok, but not within walking distance of town.

Paper thin walls

Noise from my neighbors woke me up by 7AM every morning. I could hear snoring and conversation through the walls. The beach is a parking lot for boats, which spoils the view. However, the staff was nice and the food wasn't bad. I feel that I would have been better off paying less for a hotel that wasn't part of a resort. Or paying slightly more for a different resort.

Comfortable & Relaxing getaway

Grand Coco Bay sits on the ocean with breathtaking views of the sun rise. The pool is centered between the rooms and is a stone throw away from the restaurants and snack bars. There are plenty of bars, including one built into the side of the pool which you can swim up to and enjoy a beverage without leaving the refreshing water. The pool and amenities are clean, and there are always activities going on hosted by the hotel staff to keep things interesting. The hotel is a mile or so from route 5 which is an area of around 20 blocks that has restaurants, and stores, banks and other small businesses. This street is closed to traffic and is a must see while vacationing for souvenirs, and authentic cuisine. The food is pretty standard, and the main dinning hall has a different themed meal each night, so you won't be eating the same thing meal after meal. There are two specialty restaruants and the food and service is very good. I've heard other places skimp on the food and afterwards people would go to the main dining hall for seconds, but this place left you will a full feeling.
