exceptional relaxing vacation
This hotel was absolutely exceptional. It had everything we were looking for. A beautiful pool within feet of the beach. The hotel is fairly small, so extremely quiet and relaxing. A restaurant that had wonderful finger food for the beach or fine dining at night, also great lunch options. Although the restaurant is not affiliated with the hotel it is attached. Great for having a cocktail before of after you venture out to shop or dine. Rent a chair on restaurant/hotel beachfront and have to eat/drink only $10 for the entire day. We were looking for something that had a pool, restaurant, and beachfront. The exceptional staff and rooms were a bonus. This hotel is in the heart of Playa. We will be back next year!

Great Place
10 day vacation. Our first night we were put in a less than desirable condo. The dishwasher had been pulled out, there was no washer/dryer, and the furniture was junk. However the concierge, Sylvia, said we would have a better room available the next afternoon and, true to her word, she moved us to a beautiful 1st floor condo only one unit away from the beach. The food and service from the Wickys restraunt was incredible both beachside and to our rooms. There is no room service but the waiters would bring us breakfast to our patio and just keep the tab open until we paid up after a day on the beach. I will be going back there next year.

Slice Of Heven
Traveled as a family of 6, all adults, to Playa del Carmen & Encanto el Faro condo/hotel. Three bedrooms gave us plenty of room. One negative is that bathrooms don't have access from living room/kitchen area. Beach is the best!! Minor seaweed, but it's picked up in the morning, early. Pool is wonderful, too. Walk up a slight hill to all the festiviities of 5th Avenue. Great restaurants, shopping, nightlife right there. No phones in the room, which is a bummer. Internet in lobby only, another bummer. But, hey, you're in paradise!! We ate breakfast & lunch/snacks at the condo, then splurged on a nice dinner each night. Saves quite a bit of $$ by doing that. Having a car is nice as we explored the area, mostly south to Tulum, Akumal, and a grocery stop at Chedraui.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Definitely go to Xcaret, an eco-park about 40 minutes south of Playa. It has so many things to do - and the buffet!! Awesome!! Be sure to snorkel in the cenote. Lots of fun.

great value
hotel was great. near walmart, so stocked up as soon as we go there. room was really great (2 bdrm 2 bath with kitchen) i have traveled to mexico many times and this was one of my favorite places. could make it a value trip or splurge at a hundred different places to eat within 10 minute walk. beach was clean and water was perfect. wicky's restaraunt onsite was good but service was inconsistent. one day we were taken care of and one day we were ignored. i tipped well and that did not seem to help. it just depended on which server took care of you. some were content to stand around and talk to each other or sit and talk to other guests. some hustled and wanted to make money. but, food and drink were good, and not too expensive. i would highly recommend this hotel and will be going back bc of the location in playa as well as the value. we ate out every night and the food was excellent off fifth avenue. also recommend taking the ferry to couzumel and renting a jeep (or scooters if youre insane, like we did unknowingly) and go to the back side of the island. lots to explore, but bring cash! no electricity. beautiful and desolate.

El Faro is Fantastic!
I would give El Faro 5 stars if it were not for a few maintenance issues. I have been told that they are typical in Mexico, but a shower that does not drain and a patio jacuzzi that is in need of repair could have been attended too. All other small issues were taken care of quickly - and there were a handful. I had a hard time choosing between El Taj and El Faro, but after 8 days at El Faro, it won me over. El Taj has a small pool and is on a beach with many fishing boats. You can't swim in front. It is also next to the very loud beach clubs, so I assume it was noisy - the music was always blaring. El Faro has a great pool that was steps from the calm ocean, perfect for swimming. The rooms are small, but well equipped. Plan on buying everything, including paper-towels and cascade at the grocery. Not even a salt shaker - the maids clear everything out when you leave. The restaurant Wicky's on site, is expensive, with very mediocre food (great burger and ceviche - but that's it), but it was nice to have an option. The service was very slow on the beach and in the pool area. They could work on that.... The Wifi at El Faro is horrible. It's not available in the rooms, only in the lobby or the restaurant, and it's slow, slow, slow. Major pain. I would have paid a daily fee to have it available in my room. The front desk was cordial, but not friendly. They were slow to respond to requests that they didn't deem an emergency (like our sliding door not locking or the dish washer overflowing). The hotel is very clean. The maid service is fine. They do not "clean" the room daily, but do bring in fresh towels. We had 1 thorough cleaning. Lots of security which prohibits non-hotel guests from the property. I felt very safe and well protected especially being on the first floor. I would book again, no questions asked!

Short walk from hotel
Do NOT eat anywhere on 5th Avenue. Only the tourists eat there, and they must have really bad taste is food. It's fine for a drink, but the side streets provide many better options. Here are my recommendations: Best tacos: El Fogon (30th &26th) Best Italian: Como Como - 38th&40th. You must have a reservation. ( I know, crazy to eat Italian in Mexico, but there is a ton of great places) Best ceviche and tostadas: Los aquas Chiles (34th&25th) Best Pizza: La Piola (38th) Best Breakfast: Natibo Best Thai: Babes (5th&10th) Shop at Mega not Walmart. Better choices....

Nice and great location
This hotel is really nice I would say, apart from some details. - No WiFi in the room. - Don't get the included breakfast. It is in the adjacent beach club Wickys where the service is just really, really, really slow. Go to some local place and get breakfast, or just pop into Starbucks if a simple sandwich and coffee is what you want. - The beach chairs you are supposed to have access to is in a separate little part of the same beach clubs area. Good luck getting the hotel staff to get you an umbrella. Just pay 50 pesos and get the Wickys staff to do it instead. Some days it was ok, other days just impossible. Apart from these rather minor details it's clean and really nice with good staff and you can't really beat the location. You are ON the beach and 1 block away from the main street.

Carbonzitos is a few blocks away with the best tacos you'll get along with a good price. If you feel like a quite nice dinner, go to Miguel at Santitos 100m from the entrance for some good food and a friendly owner in a small place.
