Relaxing at it's finest

We arrived late on a Saturday (12/3/11) and were taken to the Priveledged check in location. All was in order with no problems. Our room was fabulous. Clean and nicely decorated. Strolled the property to get our bearings. The property was well taken care of and everything was manicured and healthy. Beach was incredible, well maintained (as seaweed was a common accurance washing up on the beach) but was taken care of by the time we awoke and staked our claim to the abundance of lounge chairs available. We took daily walks for what seemed like miles in each direction. Actually it was. As for the food, it was standard fair for these types of resorts but the bread was the main attraction, at least for me. Service was incredible. Juan was the hardest working Bartender in Mexico as one minute he was pouring me a beer, the next he was down at waters edge taking orders and picking up peoples discarded (empty) smallwares. Quirino, at the main buffet was so sincere and wanting to please, we always chose a table in his area just for the spectacular service. If Hotel management reads this review, I want both of these gentlemen to get a big fat raise, because these are the types of employees that make travelers want to come back again and again and we will as well. The only thing I can say negative about our stay, was the rudeness and impatience of the European clientel at this resort. Not all mind you, but many. From cutting in line to completely ignoring a simple gesture as hello and claiming non-comprehension. Will I go back? You bet. Already planning our next trip.

Had a good time

Room: We were in room number 4211. Honeymoon privilege/corner room. Very nice and lots of privacy on the balcony to use the jacuzzi. The bathroom has not been updated in this room. Bed was comfy, pillows were so-so. Food: Our first meal at the 'grill' buffet was not that good. Choices were hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken patty, fish, chili and salad.....EVERYDAY. After the first day we went up to the main buffet near the lobby. Lots of different choices every day. Our favorite dinner was at the Italian restaurant. We went there twice. The steak restaurant was okay. Make sure you order your meat well done. I loved the lime sorbet at the steak restaurant. We went to the tapas twice. Once for a romantic dinner (we were celebrating our 25th anniversary) we did not order off the menu that night. It was a prearranged dinner. The second time we went to the tapas we both ordered chicken as our main dish and we enjoyed it. We didn't really care for the Mexican restaurant. Beach: One of the nicest beaches we have ever been to. Every morning there was a crew raking the seaweed. The water was very warm and the waves were pretty calm. The towel game was in full force. You could not find a spot in the shade after 7:00 in the morning. Pool: Water temp had to be at least 90 degrees. Not refreshing at all!!! The hot tub was actually cooler than the pool. Families with small children tend to spend most of their time in the pool rather than the ocean. Photos: There are photographers on the beach taking pictures. The pictures range in price from $15.00 (5x7) $20.00 (8x10) and so on. Overall, we had a good time. We would return for the right price.

Loved every minute

We spent the entire week playing on the beach, reading, eating and enjoying adult beverages. The beach is amazing, the pool very clean and never crowded. Buffet was very good and drinks were just what you want on a tropical beach. Ala carte is fancy and we preferred the buffet. Ice cream in the snack bar was the best I've ever had. There were little things that weren't perfect - but nothing worth complaining about and sure not enough to take away from a wonderful week. Do take bug spray (mosquitos at night). The little creatures (monkey tailed possums) creeped me out but they weren't around much. There is a small reception in the main lobby each night be sure and check it out.

Wedding

We just got married at this hotel with 45 of our friends and family. I can not say enough good things about it. The hotel is fantastic, service is great and food is wonderful. The beach is the most beautiful I have seen. It was a fantastic place for a group. We were upgraded to the beach suite, it was beautiful. The whole experiance was something i will never forget. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Would not go bck

This is a beautiful hotel with a beautiful pool and very well manicured grounds. Rooms were very clean but needed updatng. There was not much in the way of entertainment, only on Monday Wednesday and Friday and was very cheezy. Pool games were the same everyday. I found this resort very boring. Food was the same everyday and was not very good, most was served cold. Drinks were very watered down. The beach is Ok. A lot of trash washing on shore such as plastic, paper and an occasional dirty pamper here and there. I would not say this is one of the most beautiful beach in the world. If you like to socialize and make friends, this is not the place for you. Cater mostly to French and Italian and some of the guests were just down right rude. I definitely would not recommend this resort . If you are American you will not get service. You will be ignored. Boring, Boring, Boring.

Heaven on Earth

This was our second stay at Catalonia. It's wonderful for us as we prefer a place that has a low-key atmosphere. The staff is excellent. Their attention to detail is very impressive. The vivid colors of the buildings and grounds against the impeccable white sand beach and turquoise water make it beyond picture perfect. The privilege rooms are very nice. The food and drinks are plentiful and good. There are guests from all over and of all ages. The children are barely noticeable and seem to be kept busy by staff or their parents. Everyone is very laid back, content, and quiet. The entire experience is one of beauty, class, and total relaxation! We intend to visit every year.

Time-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Hire private transportation to and from the airport rather than a shuttle. You will not waste time making stops along the way for other passengers and it's a first class experience. The little bit of extra money you'll spend is totally worth it for you to get to your resort asap. We love Cancun Transfers.

Great winter getaway

We enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing 10 day stay at this resort. Very nice privileged room, beautiful beach, great food and excellent employees. Every day was nice and warm and only experienced one ten minute shower during the entire stay. Really can't think of anything negative. We would recommend to friends and will very likely return.

Excellent beach for the price,

The wife and I had a really nice stay at this hotel. You share the exact same beach as Secrets Maroma for like half the cost. All the staff was really nice and helpful. Not as flashy as Secrets, but for the price well with it.
