Sixteen century building that belonged to Pereda's Count, formally declared as a world heritage. Recently performed as a hotel, you'll enjoy a pleasant shelter and appreciate the greatness of the Cathedral, due to it's views, that gives name to our Hotel, which offers a magical spectacle of ligthing with music and fireworks all the Saturday nigts at 8:45 pm.

It is near to architectural buildings, such as: Cathedral, churches, market sweet, home of the crafts. Only breakfast is provided by the restaurant.

The amenities provided by the hotels are bar, currency exchange, dry cleaning, laundry service, lift / elevator, lobby, non-smoking rooms, reception, safe deposit box and tour desk.

Wasted possibilities

If I could only write one word for this review, it would be 'grim.' The hotel is in a gorgeous colonial era three-story building in downtown Morelia, right across the street from the cathedral and the main square. Illumination is a HUGE issue. Lighting is really bad everywhere, but particularly in the restaurant downstairs (feels like a cave) and in the rooms that don't face the street. Sparsely placed CFL light saving bulbs everywhere make the grim ambiance look just a tad greenish. Not nice at all. If the ambiance wasn't enough, the staff at this hotel are probably jaded from so much tourism, or they just don't care. Service is bad –even in the GORGEOUS roof deck café that overlooks the main square and the cathedral. We were served what felt like a 2 year old cupcake, and it felt understaffed. For about the same price, you would do much better next door at the Hotel Casino. The rooms are not that much better, and lighting is also a bit of an issue, but they feel larger, better lit and the staff is super helpful. Also, their restaurant (LU Cocina Michoacana) is probably in the top three restaurants in Morelia. Deliciousness by the portals.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

LU Cocina Michoacana is the lobby restaurant for Hotel Casino across the street from the main square (Plaza de Armas). Just a short walk east, and you'll also find "Los Mirasoles," a beautiful restaurant on Madero street owned by a master sommelier. Great food, great wine. Can't go wrong.

It's good, could be better

Wifi is not good enough, you have to stay at the lobby in order to get good reception. They need to instal routers on the upper floors in order for the signal to reach the rooms.

Hotel Catedral

We were only there to sleep, and the Hotel Catedral was more than sufficient in that aspect. Our room was quiet and cooled off quickly with a wall mounted Tran air conditioner. It was not possible to leave the windows open and that was disappointing. The bedding was crisp and clean and the bed was supportive and comfortable. Some of our lights were burnt out upon arrival and that took a couple of complaints to get that fixed. The water pressure in the shower was so relaxing, but the shower door seemed poorly designed because it opened out and it was hard to step onto a dry bath mat without pushing it across the floor. The hotel looked as if it had recently undergone a nice renovation and was very clean. I don't think you can go wrong on the Avenida Madero in Morelia. Upon leaving the hotel, we had a pristine view of the Catedral and the the Plaza de Armas. Bella!!

Very comfortable and well situated.

Very comfortable and nice clean rooms. Is close for many types of entertainment and a variety of meals. The cafe downstairs is a nice place to enjoy a meal and enjoy the sidewalk dining to watch the pedestrians and various festivals across the street at Morelia park. Their are many nice places to shop or enjoy a coffee.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Walking east you can enjoy a nice meal at VIPS, very reasonable and family style dining, If you should need any necessities, there is a Woolworths 2 doors West. Sanborns is also a nice place to enjoy a meal (3rd floor) West of the hotel about 4 blocks there are many shops where you can find various souveniers. There is usually some activity to enjoy at Morelia Park in the evening hours.

Great Place to Stay in Morelia!

We were so lucky to get a great room on the Cathedral side of the hotel! We had our own terrace with a wonderful view of the Cathedral and square. The room was attractively decorated, the beds very comfortable with high quality linens. Front desk male receptionist was fluent in English and very helpful. Female receptionist could not speak English and didn't seem too interested in being helpful. Other staff were very helpful and gave us lots of information on what to see and do in the city. Try to be there on SATURDAY NIGHT for the lighting of the Catherdral, beautifully organised and very moving with music, singing, fireworks, history of Morelia and the lighting of the Cathedral - an experience to be enjoyed and remembered!
