Restaurant
The flavors, fragrances, and colors flood the cuisine, where Michoacan is the inspiration and Lu Cocina Michoacana is the result. Respect for traditions, research, and the rescue of recipes with today's techniques, using local products and the aromatic herbs from their own gardens. Add to this a strong dose of passion, flavor, and creativity-that's the philosophy.

what happened to this hotel?

this hotel was previously owned by best western. it is now owned by turotel. something has changed. i've stayed here before, and for whatever reasons, the rooms seem a lot smaller. there is no A/C or heater. They provide either a ceiling fan or a portable fan. the other negative would be in the late evenings, the fresh smell of sewage. i'm not sure if it's coming from the hotel plumbing or from the streets. it is very strong.. the plus, you get 2 bottles of water everyday and the free internet/WiFi. you can even do your own laundry as the hotel has a washer and dryer. the biggest plus is that you are in the historical center of morelia. just beware of the awful smell. not sure if i will be staying here anymore.

if you want cheap eats. then here are a couple of places you might be interested in. go to a small sandwich shop called MCTORTA. it's not mcdonalds, but you can get this mctorta (torta or mexican subway) which has tons of meats, cheese, lettuce tomatoes, etc on a toasted torta bread for under 3 dollars. the owner, tere, is a very sweet and cool person. check it out. this place is located on abasolo st. if you want a monster torta, a little more expensive. go to EL MAGO. you can order one torta, and it will feed your friend. and they have a fresh juice bar. it is awesome. it is near the cathedral area, just don't remember the street. just ask the friendly people of morelia and they will point you to the right direction. if you want great coffee. go to CAFE EUROPA. it's right across the street from cathdral.

Better Beds than the fancy places

Lets face it. I've stayed at the Virrey de Mendoza. I've stayed at Los Juaninos. I've stayed at Cantera Diaz and I've stayed at Case Grande. These are the best and most expensive hotels in the Centro Historico in Morelia --- an elegant 16th Century Colonial Mexican jewel. But this hotel can't be missed. While it's not fancy per se, the rooms are big, clean, nice, well appointed, and updated. The staff is VERY nice and EXTREMELY helpful. But remember --- you are in THEIR country and being respectful to that is important. Any Spanish you can speak or consideration you give to them is much appreciated. This hotel also has room service -- and that is something special because the restaurant and sidewalk cafe boasts one of the top, award-winning chef, Lucero Soto, serving up the best of Morelia --- an elegant town enriched in culture, both old and new. Don't miss out.

Mix up with our booking!

We arrived at the Hotel and Casino Morelia and our first impression was OH MY GOD! The location of this hotel is absolutely amazing. Directly across from the Cathedral within walking distance to everything. We went to speak with the front desk to check in and unfortunately there was a mix up with our booking and they did not have a room for us. However the staff were unbelievably friendly and apologetic and they took us across the road to another hotel where they checked us in and paid the difference as it was a more expensive room. Although we didnt have the opportunity to experience the Hotel itself, the location and staff are worth recommending the hotel! Thank you to those kind gentleman at the front desk who were so helpful!!!

Terrible Room

I reserved our room at the Best Western Casino hotel a month before we arrived and was put in a terrible interior room situated next to an air shaft that was above a loading dock. The room was incredibly warm and when I opened the window I received fryed food smells from the kitchen as well as noise from the loading dock outside of the kitchen. The noise continued until mid night and started again at 5:00 AM. The hotel was full and nothing could be done. When we requested two extra pillows we were told that there were no more available in the building. Needless to say we paid for a sleepless night. When I mentioned to the reception desk the next morning how horrible the room was and how bad the noise was there was no apology. I do have to say though that the staff was very friendly and extremely professional. They also have one of the best restaurants in Morelia with excellent service with a superb cuisine. Too bad that the hotel rooms can not match the same standards.

AMAZING SERVICE

My now husband and I stayed at this hotel after our honeymoon- it was amazing! The staff is friendly and try to accomidate you in any way. There restauranr wasn't the best, but the rooms were homey and clean. I wasn't too impressed with shampoo but no conditioner. They do have a laundry room consisting of one washer and one dryer and they supplied you with detergant- again, no softner. They did what they could to accomodate us and we appreciated their amazingly friendly staff! My husband refuses to go to any other hotel in Morelia if it is not this one. We also stayed at the Alameda Hotel and we weren't as impressed as we were with Best Western. In our opinions, it should be a 3 1/2 start hotel!
