Enjoyed the stay

A very clean and comfortable hotel. We went to PV daily siteseeing, eating, exploring, etc. Took the bus each time. Also enjoyed the town of Mismalaya, surrounding areas and dining very much. Loved the location - small, serene and "Oh so" quiet. Sat out every evening. The attached store was a nice asset. If ever have the opportunity - will choose Casa Iguana again

Good Stay!

Casa Iguana is a great out of the way spot for relaxing and getting away from the crowds. You can get to Puerto Vallarta very quickly on the bus, enjoy and be very happy to be home away from the crowds when you return.

This is the place

We are a 50ish couple that prefer to spend our time and money on exploring rather than sitting around a pool fighting for a lounge chair at an all-inclusive resort. The Casa Iguana was perfect for our needs. The rooms were clean, staff friendly and efficient, and the 2-bedroom suites offered a kitchen where we could cook a few simple meals. The pool was clean, hot tub hot, and the bar and restaurant staff extremely competent and friendly. The hotel is a few steps away from the beach or the bus line that runs north and south to PV or to catch the water taxis. This is a great value of a property, with American management and Mexican atmosphere.

Great hideaway

Casa Iguana is a great find. It is located in the village of Mismaloya, about 12km from Puerto Vallarta. Not on the beach, but within walking distance (a couple hundred yards). It is a very tranquil garden setting - quite relaxing. Each room is a suite - we had two bedrooms, living/sitting area, and a kitchen. The suite was very clean, with ceiling fans in each room and A/C when needed (not much). There is a small market located at the front entrance where you can get supplies for your suite - beverages, food, other essentials. The restaurant is called Boca Bento, and is located right off the pool area. It features Latin-inspired cuisine with a Mexican flair - not tacos and nachos, but prices are very reasonable. The entire staff provided wonderful service during our entire stay. If you don't have a car, access to Puerto Vallarta is very easy via bus or taxi - the bus is 6 pesos, and a cab is closer to 150 pesos (depends). There is only one road along the coast (Mexico 200), which is pretty busy, so walking along it is a bit dicey. All in all, for those seeking an alternative to the mega high-rise resorts that have taken over Puerto Vallarta, Casa Iguana is a wonderful option.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Another dining option is called Maria Bonita, located just across the road in the La Jolla de Mismaloya condos. Situated on a beautiful terrace overlooking the bay, it's a great place for breakfast. You can look right down into the water and watch the clownfish over coffee. Awesome way to start your day.

casa iguana vacation

The hotel was all two bedroom units with kitchenettes. It was kept spotlessly clean. At this time of year the pool area was uncrowded and very restful.

The restaurant in hotel was exceptional. The food was very good and the restaurant manager took very good care of us. The maitre d', [...] "Sinatra", serenaded us, strumming his guitar as we ate. Dinners were quite an experience.

Quiet, clean, safe & friendly--not fancy, still a great vacation

I have to admit when we checked in we were a little worried. We had chosen CI for the kitchenette & real beds for each of the 3 of us. Once we settled in everything was just fine. We went to Mexico to explore, walk, read, relax and get a tan in a safe environment--CI delivered. -Think small older boutique hotel, maybe 30 rooms & appear to be renovating them 1 by 1. -The same caring, friendly people worked every day & took care of us like family. -Our room, though not renovated, was spotlessly clean & had great air conditioning, shower pressure & very comfy beds. A little dark, but we weren't in Mexico to sit inside. -The location is quite far away from DT PV so was blessedly quiet except for the birds--it IS in a jungle!20 minutes and 75 cents by bus to town, 1 minute to the bus stop. -The bar/cafe opens early and closes early evening as well. If you need beer/cocktails late stock up at the the hotel's convenience store or town supermarkets--that's why you have a kitchen! -The pool is small, but plenty of room and lounge options for sun lovers. -Note: no room safe, small deposit boxes are available in the office -If you require an elevator or room service or plan to spend your vacation online or on the phone, this is NOT your hotel. Our stay was very relaxing and I would do it again for the price. Say hi to the hotel mascot cats for us!

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

-Go to one of the big grocery stores downtown to get your breakfast and lunch supplies. The best feature of this hotel is the kitchen (fridge, cooktop, dining and cooking utensils). Bus into town for under 75 cents and splurge on dinner.

same great place! same great value

a great place to get away when you might be burned out on the beach in Puerta Vallarta. A great place to end the week for a couple of nites to really relax by the pool or head down to Boca de Tomatlan to the quaint fishing town and beach. Amazing seafood up the cobbled street in Mismaloya at Tony's family restaraunt. Pool area can be noisy if a holiday or guests with children are present. great hiking and birdwatching across the river in the forest on roads. The zoo and tequila tasting houses are just up the street a couple of blocks.

Great suites, out of town.

Great place to visit the zoo (better than expected-go early), botanical gardens, mismaloya area. Loved the 2 room suite with the kids, gave us privacy compared to hotel rooms. walk to beach ( get the $20 massage). restaurant was good, breakfast especially. Pool was too cold to use. Quiet and peaceful probably because hardly any guests that week. Very clean. Got bitten by bugs a bit, bring spray.

Great hotel in a quiet location

Nice hotel in a quiet location. It's about a 20-30 minute busride to Puerto Vallarta and Mismaloya is sowewhat limited in services, but the location is restful and there are lots of outdoor things to do.
