Weekend getaway

Since close friends had an engagement celebration in Mexico City, my wife and I decided to stay for the weekend in this modern, cosmopolitan hotel and make it a romantic getaway. The hotel is very well located on the famous Reforma Avenue and very close to upscale shops and restaurants and the fashionable Polanco area. The rooms are stunningly sleek and comfortable and have a cool control panel next to the bed that manages everything, including phone calls. Yet they are smallish in size, even though we were upgraded to an executive suite. The 15th story pool, spa and gym are ultra luxurious and afford a panoramic view of this world-class city. Next time we'll spend more time on this floor! The St. Regis butler service is a well known perk of this hotel chain and a phone charger and toothbrush we had forgotten back home were immediately provided upon request. Room service breakfast was also brought at the promised time and was delicious. However, we found check-in and doorman service was a bit slow and not very friendly. Overall, we very much enjoyed staying here. This hotel is a welcome addition to the Mexico City ultra luxury hotel scene that was the virtual fiefdom of the impeccable Four Seasons located nearby.

St Regis - very good but not perfect

We had an easy and fast check-in and nice escort to the room. The butler service was efficient and friendly as were the doormen and concierge. Our biggest problems were design issues: the showers flood into the main bath area, there are not enough hooks upon which to hang one's robes/suits/towels in the bath area, and the closet light blinks on and off whenever one walks by it. The bar had good service and a great terrace from which to view the goings ons on the Reforma. The service in the dining room is inconsistent, one day good, then next poor (and the waiter looked at the bill and made a foul remark when he discovered we left 10% for the poor service). We recommend eating at Charro for casual yet good food and Pujol for a great 'avant-garde' experience...enjoy!

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Pujol is excellent for 'haut' Mexican cuisine as is Izote. Don Chon is the best for pre-Hispanic cooking.
