Elegant hotel combines history with modern amenities

This historic hotel opened in 1904 by and has hosted a number VIP guests in its day. Much of the history is showcased in a collection of photos displayed in the Golden Dome cafeteria. Vestiges of its past are reflected in the ornate French 19th-century-style architecture. A prime location on the Paseo de la Reforma makes Hotel Imperial Reforma ideal for visitors who wish to explore some of the Mexican capital's important sites.

Roaches. Terrible night.

I would like to start by saying that this is the very first time I feel compelled to write a review about my stay at a hotel. I am not a particularly fastidious person, but this has to be done. The lamps would not work. The air conditioner was broken. The fabric of both curtains and bedding had tears or holes in them. The electrical outlets were either burnt or ridiculously out of reach. The "free wifi" connectivity was a joke, wouldn't work. I called the desk to see if they could help me fix it, and they only said they would check their modems and call me back. They never did, and when I called the desk again they never answered. However, the worst part was seeing several cockroaches in the bathroom floor and the room's carpet. Yes, in the carpets that seem like have never been cleaned I still could manage to see roaches. The following morning, at checkout, I informed all of this to the person at the desk. I even wrote it down in their official stationary, left my information and never heard back from them. It has been 21 days. Three weeks. You'd think they would have addressed something this important by now.

Great Value and great location

The Imperial is amazing value for the money and a superb location - as a tourist you can walk to many attractions and no sense of danger at all. Room was on second floor facing side street so on Monday & Tuesday morning traffic noise was significant - enough to stop further sleep from around 5.30am until about 9am. Week-end was quiet. Room was large and clean as was bathroom. Strangly there was no trash can so made do with plastic bags and water pressure seemed to come and go in toilet. Also careful in shower - water temp. is not constant and can turn suddenly HOT esp. if room mate uses cold faucet in wash basin. Room cleaning service is a bit annoying as the "don't disturb" sign does not apply to cleaning apparently, as my afternoon snooze was disturbed twice by the cleaner phoning wanting entrance. Very helpful Concierge in front lobby, while front desk was efficient but brusk. Disappointed that No English news prog was available at all on cable but found 1 English movie channel . Also room fridge is pretty hopeless. Love the building and will stay again. Did not eat at all in Hotel as plenty of places around

Booked the Imperial via the internet and found it a great value. I did immediately change rooms as the first was on Reforma with a lot of traffic and the air cond was noisy. Unfortunately construction going on but not a problem if you're out all day sightseeing. Mini frig needed time to cool and toilet leaked a little bit but 2 free waters every day. About a 40 min walk to the Zocalo and only about 10 mins to the metro. Helpful staff. Didn't try their restaurants and you had to get ice from the bar. Plan for a free bike on Reforma if you're there on a Sunday. 2 Starbucks within a block.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

As typical in Mexico, walking time is usually longer than one is told but if you like to walk, stroll through Alameda Park, see Belle Artes and have dinner or lunch at Tacuba. Also the cafe in Belle Artes was wonderful, have the gazpacho. There is a short walk to La Habana for coffee, bfst, or lunch-great old time atmosphere.

Great place to stay

The staff was friendly and helpful, the food was really good and the price for a room was absolutely great towards the class and location of this building. The only negative is that traffic can be hell here and getting to or from the hotel might be a little cumbersome, but with the right spirit and mindset this is not a serious obstacle. This was my first time in this hotel and it was great.
