Traditional, 85-room property in heart of historic Zócalo

The Best Western Majestic Hotel shares the unique Zócalo setting with the National Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Built on the center of pre-Hispanic America in the largest city in the world, the location of this property cannot be topped. The architecture of this 70-year-old property, housed in a 400-year-old building, is an experience in itself. Situated in the heart of Mexico City, surrounded by historic landmarks and government buildings, the hotel is ideal for travelers who love Old World charm.

Highlights
  • Four-star hotel
  • High-speed and Wi-Fi Internet access
  • Guest laundry
  • Airline desk
Rooms

The 400-year-old building houses 84 guest rooms -- some featuring balconies that offer stunning views of the Zócalo. Features

This historic property's decor emulates the Baroque style so typical of that century. From the talavera tiled hallways to the intricate stone work and carved wood throughout the lobby, guests are transported back in time.

A charming and pefect place in the heart of Mexico City.

Nestled just off of the Zocalo in Mexico City this VERY charming 1936 vintage Hotel offered a warm welcome and comforts. The staff, from start to finish demonstrated charm and ease to insure my visit was as close to perfect as possible. The rooftop Restaurant offers a full menu (room service also) with a fantastic panoramic view of the famous Zocalo. Tour buses for the city meet one block away, PRIME shopping for Fashion (both Men & Women) jewelry just steps from the Hotel Majestic lobby. Lovely tile works and marble accent the architecture with considerable woodwork of native wood finishes the details add to the atmosphere. Rooms are relatively large and very clean. Large Bathrooms with all the modern comforts. Visiting this exciting and busy (not to mention HUGE) city, The Majestic is a welcoming resting place. Dining on the rooftop restaurant after a long days wandering or touring is a perfect way to enjoy Mexico City and it's surrounding environs. Tours can be readily booked with the front desk concierge, who will also arrange for local Taxie service and often provide directions to a particular location. If I am ever so fortunate to revisit Mexico City, the Majestic will be my hotel of first choice. I highly recommend The Majestic. Reasonable rates for first class. I am a senior single woman and felt safe and comfortable in this place. Also I note that many younger people found this hotel a charming place to stay.

The owner should be forced to spend a night in the hotel.

This hotel could be wonderful. It is well located and has many authentic architectural features. But it hasn't been undated in a long time. The tv offered few channels, and none in English. The mattress was hard. Bedspread had a cigarette burn, there was no place to plug in the coffee pot except to balance it on a narrow shelf in the bathroom. No wash cloth, towels were thin. In the morning 4 maids had a long chat in the hall which made it easy to be disturbed in the room. The lighting. . . ancient fixtures without shades. A lamp that had a clip-on shade that was inappropriate for the spiral bulb, and the shade had a burn mark on it. Only 1 nightstand. I had to ask for help from the desk clerk to lift my heavy suitcase to the level of the elevator.

Great location and view!

The good things: 1. Great location, close to many shops. 2. Great View. Our room faces the Zocalo Square. 3. Very friendly and helpful staff. The bad thing: Very noisy. There were constructions going on until 2am.

There was a taco shop right by the hotel. The tacos were 5 peso each, and they were very delicious. There was always a long line.

Right in the middle of Mexico City

Nice old hotel that even has a lift boy. The restaurant on the roof offers a great view of the cathedral and Zoccalo. Food is good but slightly over-priced

good service overall

We enjoyed our stay in Mexico DF. Hotel staff were very service-oriented. There seemed to be a glitch with them getting the internet feed so they had the reservation information wrong at first. They corrected it quickly, however. We were also pleased with the security in and around the hotel and in general in the Historic district. We felt safe to walk around, browse the shops and visit the many museums.

There are many museums within walking distance and a top notch archaeological site as well as a beautiful cathedral. This is a great place to stay for those who appreciate the history and culture of Mexico.

Very good

Excellent location and good staff, but staff memebers can hardly understand English. It is highly recommended to include free daily breakfast with hotel accommodation charges, in line with normal practice with Best Western Hotel chain in USA> It is also highly recommended to provide three computers in the lopbby for use at least for 30 minutes.

Needs improve

The location of the hotel is perfect for tourist to see many famous sites in the city. But the room equipments (furnishment, sanitation, curtains, bed etc.) are too out of date. The room service is not in a good state (for example, the room service staff put down the curtain, but did not report to manage to repair. After my calling, somebody came to check and promised to ask somebody to repair it. But actually there was no any body to come to repair it, so that we had to endure a whole night strong light coming in from outsite. The breakfirst is so simple and not so confortable.

Not for us

Despite a wonderful location, this hotel is not for us, nor would we recommend it to our friends. The room was worn, with torn, patched carpeting, uncomfortable beds, and a bathroom seriously in need of upgrading. The fixtures were painted white, and the towels were holed and frayed. We were both sick while staying here, and we think it may be due to the restaurant on the top floor. We actually saw a waiter drop a fork, then pick it up and put it with the supposedly clean utensils with which he was setting tables. This is a huge reason for our not recommending this hotel.

México City, August 2012

I loved the location of the hotel, the staff is great, my room was right in front of the National Palace. For those that can't sleep w/noise this is not good, the city never sleeps, there is always something going on day & night. The hotel has a restaurant on the terrace, but the food is not good. The terrace is perfect for pictures. Besides the food, the other thing that I didn't like were the beds, they were hard as rock. I would definitely recommend this hotel, the Metro, restaurants, museums, tour bus, stores, clubs, etc everything at walking distance. There is a lot of security, I saw police officers day & night on foot, trucks, motorcycles, on every corner.
