Fantastic location
The Best Western Majestic isn't a luxurious hotel by any means, but it has old-world charm with its talavera tiles and elevator with a safety gate. The best thing about the place is its location: right on the Zocalo, within a stone's throw of the Palacio Nacional, Metropolitan Cathedral, Templo Mayor, metro stop, Turibus stop, all sorts of restaurants, and shops. Be warned that while the view is great for rooms facing the Zocalo, it can be rather noisy with the daily 6 a.m. flag-raising ceremony, church bells on the hour and quarter hour, demonstrators, traffic, etc. Also, the rooms do not have air-conditioning or refrigerator.

Best possible location in Mexico City
The Majestic is an old, mildly worn, but atmospheric place. What makes it extraordinary is its location on the Zocalo (central plaza) directly facing the National Palace and within close walking distance of the entire Historic Center. Many of the rooms front on the Zocalo, which is ideal for watching the daily flag ceremonies and other public displays. When special rates are posted, it is really quite a bargain, and the rooms, while old, are certainly comfortable and clean. One problem: Many of the rooms are out of range of the alleged in-room wifi, and it becomes necessary to do your computing in the lobby. Overall, an excellent choice for Mexican history and culture buffs.

Twin beds!
This is a lovely old hotel right on the zocalo. However, much to our dismay, only twin beds are available in all the rooms! The reservation said nothing about that. The terrace dining room is great. It was clean but a bit spartan. As in many old hotels, the lobby and terrace are much nicer than the rooms. However, the beds are firm and pillows much nice than average in Mexican hotels. It is clean and friendly.

Hotel Majestic Reigns Supreme
For over 50 years, I have stayed at the Hotel Majestic when traveling to Mexico City. The level of service has never waivered from the highest standards, and she remains the best possible choice for me when I stay in the Historic District, the heart of Mexico City. The Majestic is the only hotel right on the Zocalo, facing the square and adjacent to the massive cathedral, and one feels as though one is transported to the turn of the last century in this 400 year-old building. The staff is tremendous and very responsive to every possible need of the traveler, the rooftop restaurant is amazing and there is nothing quite like dining while overlooking the cathedral, and I can't think of a single negative about the hotel. We were given a choice, a room on the quiet side, which opened to the inside courtyard, or a room with a terrace view of the Zocalo. We chose the Zocalo view, and I will admit that one was aware of all the activity and noise from the Zocalo, but for us, that only added to the charm and did not disturb our sleep in the least. Probably for some, however, a better choice (but not as quaint) would be the inside room. In any case, don't hesitate to book a room at the Hotel Majestic. You will not be disappointed.

Cleanliness very good, except
Cleanliness very good, except that floor carpeting was not clean, meaning in 2 minutes your socks were same color. Daily cleaning etc was good. Facilities: Room safety box: key must be get from Reception. TV remote control also ! I understand that hotel is soon 100 yrs old, which sets limitiations e.g. that water taps are separately. Fine. But baseboards were badly placed and some interesting wiring. Service: Happy with it. Location: More central location in historical center hard to find within this price range. Of course party & events at Zocalo aka Plaza de la Constitución (Constitution Square) can disturb rest. Pricing: Good as I would rank hotel more into 3star(very good) than 4star.

First rate location, 2nd rate hotel
The last time I stayed at the Majestic was in 1978. I was dissapointed to see how the property has deteriorated. It could be a fabulous, historic hotel. Best Western needs to invest some money. The choice of "hunter orange" for all walls in the public areas is unfortunate. Front desk staff is less than helpful. One bellman was outstanding and made my trip successful. The only dining option in the restaurant was a buffet so I ate elsewhere.

For travelers interested in art, the MUAC, Mexico's new modern art museum is fabulous. The inventive architecture and exhibits are a visual treat.
