My review of Hotel Montejo Palace
The hotel is a reasonable experience and not anything luxury per se. The pool is small and typical of pools. The wireless access is not provided inside the rooms as one would expect but only in the lobby. The staff, although courteous, recognized only basic english phrases. The buffet is good, but costs 100 pesos (10 dollars US) which is not a listed cost anywhere that I could speak of. The first day, I made the mistake of thinking it was a free breakfast like so many hotels do. The second day, one of the staff mentioned the tip was not included in the breakfast buffet. I kinda of thought it was ridiculous to tip for collecting plates, since I could walk them 10 feet myself to the bin to be washed. Also, the hot water did not always work very well. It was never super hot, but sometimes it simply did not work, and other times, it would take minutes for it to get marginally warm. I guess the plusses are that the staff does seem to understand english somewhat...a rarity for some hotels. The hotel is also somewhat old fashioned and which is a plus if you like that kind of thing in mexico. The balconies are nice...the A/C is good, and generally the staff was very courteous. The hotel also seems to have tours you can purchase directory from one of the first floor shops though I did not do this. The buffet is good, if not a little expensive I thought. If you had to, I suppose you could do a brunch at the buffet and be good the rest of the day. It is off the main stretch so it is convenient that way as well.

Basic Hotel....
I stayed in this Hotel my very first time in MERIDA 2 years ago and everytime I go to Merida I spend my first night here. I only stayed 2 nights and the rest of my vacation I stayed in bigger nicer Hotels, it was a very basic hotel nothing fancy, but my room was clean and it is located right on the MAIN STRIP "PASEO MONTEJO"...very nice location. The safe is downstairs behind the counter so you have to give your things to the front desk personnel and they are the ones to handle the safe, I did not like that. However it served it's purpose I was only there to sleep. My room had a small yet very nice living room with antique Spanish furniture. I had the view of the city from my balcony. It is a very economical hotel and again basic hotel.
