Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
walk 4 blocks to the ADO bus terminal (70th st and 63rd st I think)and took the taxis there, in the taxi ticket booth, its way cheaper specially the trip to the airport.

Clean, efficient, bargain hotel
Clean and comfortable, though not luxurious, and best of all a great staff. Good choice if you are looking to stay in the colonial part of the city (and not out on Paseo Montejo which is full of tourists). Pool is large and clean, food at the restaurant is good. Lighted, guarded parking lot. Short walk to the square, sights and restaurants. Ask for a room on the pool side. Streets of Merida are very loud thanks to the many buses. Did I mention the great staff? Many thanks to all of them!

Chaya Maya. . . looks like a tourist trap, but has great food. Be prepared to wait awhile for a table.

Ole Merida
The bellman spoke English & was our communicator. Room 206 smelled terrible upon arrival. They brought a maid to clean the bathroom. It was better for a while & then began to smell again. We discovered a mothball repellant hanging under the face bowl. When removed sewer gas replaced that odor. We plugged the shower and face bowl to stop the smell. The next morning the maid was going to replace the mothballs and we stopped her. The plugs worked but major plumbing repairs are needed.

The central plaza has vendors, music and entertainers each Friday & Saturday evening after 7PM. Traffic is blocked off all around the square.

A nice hotel for the price. About
A nice hotel for the price. About 6 blocks from the Plaza des Armas and lots of eating places nearby. About 10 to 15 minutes walk to the bus station. A good swimming pool and friendly helpful staff.

Which wing?
I stayed for 7 days. This hotel has two wings. What I'd call Wing 1, where I was put, has its windows looking out on an open-air passageway, so if you want privacy from guests passing by, you have to keep the curtains drawn. The room had no clock, no bureau to store my clothes, no hot water, ants crawling in the bathroom. Very tropical, but in February a little warm water to moderate the shower would have helped. I asked to be put in Wing 2 after speaking with some guests--privacy, hot water, a closet for clothes and no insects because the bathroom was sealed from outside; I was almost giddy. One downside to the location is that any streets you take to the zocalo are heavily polluted by the innumerable diesel buses running on every thoroughfare. A better area is Calle 59 up to about 53, and between 60 and 64--there are plenty of hotels there to choose from.

Good for price
We just slept one day in this hotel. Our room is really good for cleanliness. The hotel is 10 min walk from ADO bus station. If you plan to travel by bus, this hotel is worth to choose.
