El Castellano has 170 rooms and suites with every creature comfort. Hotel services include a swimming pool, a restaurant serving Yucatecan cuisine and International favorites, a lobby bar, convention facilities for meetings, seminars and social events, a Business Center, wireless Internet, travel agency and valet parking. Capital of the state of Yucatan, the colonial city of Merida offers visitors an unforgettable combination of history, culture and stately architecture brought to life by the warm smiles of its inhabitants. This is a place where a horse-drawn carriage is still the way to travel and musicians serenade you while you dine on local cuisine. Soak up the romance of Mrida, you won't want to leave. There's even more to see in the surrounding area. Merida is the gateway to the Maya World and the ancient cities of Chichen Itza, recently voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and Uxmal lie within two hours traveling time. Both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, they head an impressive list of archaeological zones, colonial cities, haciendas and natural wonders awaiting discovery.

Great Hotel For the Price and Location

This is a great hotel with a great location. Very close to the town square with many things to do. It was very clean and the staff was helpful. It did have free wireless internet and the restaurant was good as well. There were only two small complaints that I would have about this hotel. The first is that there were no english speaking stations on the telivision, which seems like they could have a couple especially when I went to a friends house in town and they had some english stations on regular cable. Also when I checked out, I had drank a bottle of water from the room and thought they would just charge to the room but they made me pay 22 pecos for the bottle of water from the room. Which is just alittle annoying when your trying to catch a taxi to the airport at 5am... Anyway great hotel, and had a great time in Merida...

OK but not completly renovated

Nice location, very near the centre of the city which is great for the sites. Description says its fully renovated but while my room was nice enough clearly not renovated at all, bathroom was clean and functional but quite old, not up to any modern hotel standard. Air conditioning worked great though which is very important in the Yucatan, hot, hot, hot outside. Very freindly staff, although thry did not have my orbiz reservation when I arrived.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

Go away from the cento for better food, all the places near the town centre are too touristy and not really very good. A short cab ride shoudl get you better local fare.

Good hotel... just a few issues

The staff was very friendly and generally spoke English well. After working out an issue with the booking and getting moved to the correct room; it was a good week in Merida. The only complaints are that Internet is about $15 a day and on weekends there was a band playing at a nearby bar that could be heard from my friends rooms and my room on the 2nd and 5th floors even with the windows shut and curtains closed. If you plan on using the Internet I'd suggest finding a nearby Internet Cafe and ask to be moved to the other side of the hotel if the music bothers you. Other than that; the pool was clean, the restaurant appeared to have a good breakfast, and it is in a nice location near the center of town with many shops and restaurants in close proximity.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

The main square is two blokcs from the hotel. On Sundays they close the streets and vendors of all kinds sell good at very affordable prices. The local market is within walking distance, this is where the local people buy their vegetables, meat , etc. It is aunique experince. If you want to go ask for el mercado the market.
